To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Coverless duvets have been a game changer for my autistic ADHD son who sleeps so restlessly that before he’d always end up with the duvet wrestled out of its cover. His is a double, fits easily into the washing machine and dries in no time. The idea of packing an extension plug thing on holiday so only need one adapter for all your phones, hairdryers etc is GENIUS

Since Trump got in I think everyone should be hugely wary of investing.

An acquaintance recently lost £200,000 after Trump announced his tariffs…

It’s only an issue if they plan to sell soon. I “lost” a lot when Trump was going crazy with tariffs.

I regained all my losses now.

To write on glass jars with an ordinary Sharpie when using them to store things in the fridge (left over stock, cream, soup etc). The sharpie washes off in the dishwasher. I now also use them on storage jars for rice and grains etc. Sadly it doesn't wash off reuseable freezer bags - I'd love to know what would.....

Whiteboard markers will wipe off.

MounjaroOnMyMind · 22/04/2025 16:18

I first read about Mounjaro on here. Ten months and over four stone later, it's the best thing I've done.

I was introduced to the pick-me dance on here - if I'd known about that when I was much younger, my life would have been very different. I was also introduced to the concept of hysterical bonding, which absolutely blew my mind. Both of these things were happening to me over the years (same guy) and I truly believed that a lot of sex after the discovery of infidelity meant we were made for each other.

The relationships forum would have been life-changing for me years ago. I think just writing out the problem would have made me realise what an idiot I was, but hearing tough and hard-hitting advice would have been really good for me.

Please Tell me more about the hysterical bonding, I’ve never heard of it.

I have a normal double but shared it with a duvet thief so put a king size duvet on it, problem solved

I have a super king and put two doubles on it - lovely square duvets

Is this instant mash? Which is a good one to buy?

Yes instant mash you can buy in Tesco (and probably other retailers). Literally hot water and the dried mash, one minute, a bit of stirring and you have very tasty mash.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2025 21:59

@GeorgeMichaelsCat yep I use that packet mash all the time, even in cottage pies- add a bit of white pepper and a knob of butter - it’s great.

Totally. Very different from my childhood memories of Smash.

Spitting in swimming goggles stops them misting up.

Extrasensing · 24/04/2025 05:46

Zofora, absolutely love that stuff and buy it in bulk. I use it for rinsing out the bid and mopping the toilet floors. I think I’m going to do that right now, although I was delaying it for later, the scent makes me happy and I feel like I’m making a happy home.

You can buy it in bulk on Amazon too (12 packs to a box, from memory). I add it to my watchlist and get notified when the price drops. The last time I bought it, it was about £1.00 per pack. It was £1.20 at Tesco at the time.

That saving will cancel itself out with the delivery fee for those who are not prime members.

The only benefit I can see is saving yourself multiple trips to buy it… and having something good to hand in the freezer for those days one is running low on food in the fridge.

The shoe in the safe thing is an old tip, not nonsense. I've not used it but you're unlikely to leave without a pair!

And I expect they didn't get through passport control and had to turn back.

If they turned back for the passports why did it take 2 weeks to get the jewellery back?

MooFroo · 24/04/2025 06:23

EnRouteElsewhere · 23/04/2025 23:42

Ok probably stupid question but why does horizontal bloc of ice make a difference. Thanks

@EnRouteElsewhere if you lie the bottle horizontally in the freezer, you’ll end up with one long frozen strip of ice, so when you take it out of freezer and add water, it’ll be cold throughout length of the bottle, instead than a block of ice at the bottom. So when drinking, every sip feels colder as its next to ice…

Not sure if I’ve explained it very well 🥴

Does anyone have any tips for removing leftover sticky residue (from labels) off plastic please? 🤞🏼

tothelefttotheleft · 23/04/2025 21:11

Do you put it inside you or just wash your bum with it?

Must have been amazing to be rid of the problem.

Just wash your bum with it. Fairly strong. Cleared my four year fissure up within three weeks.

Warm water

Or steam over the steam of a kettle… just place the label over the nozzle

Or scrape it of gently with a plastic spook or fork

If it is still not gone, soak it in white vinager bicarbonate of soda and olive oil, leave it there for several hours and watch the magic happen

Thank you I'll give that last one a go. Nothing else has worked so far and tried all sorts!

I've used WD-40. Took the sticker residue off my fridge door with minimum scraping.

Fraaances · 24/04/2025 07:03

@Extrasensing - if it’s the glue, eucalyptus oil will break it down. Just rub it with a cotton ball. Of course, unless you are feeding koalas you will need to wash again in very hot water and detergent to remove the smell.

sanitizing (alcohol) hand gel, just let it soak a little and it melts the glue right off. Can also use up all the gels from covid times.

Thank you I'll give that last one a go. Nothing else has worked so far and tried all sorts!

Make sure you nicely mix the bicarbonate in, lather it in and don’t spare the horses. If you want a pristine result, leave it for 3 to for days, if it’s stubborn, rinse and repeat, it has worked on thickly burnt in black very hard creamy sauce, I had almost despaired and that was my last tack. It will come out pristine, don’t worry.

Best thing to do is leave it out of your sight to soak, rub it in with a plastic knife every once in a while if you like. Place it away from you so you can forget about it and it doesn’t annoy you - it was seriously getting on my nerves! First world problems!

Finally, on the last day, try rubbing and scraping it with a finish tablet, it won’t scratch the plastic.

Please let me know you got it out! Hugsxo

Extrasensing · 24/04/2025 07:43

I went to a packed nightclub wearing pristine extremely pale light grey suede shoes, by 3 o’clock in the morning, they had been stepped on countless times, at least 4 rum and cokes spilt on them, drunk folk dancing without coordination, including me!

Now the toes are deep black and the dirt and foot marks are caked it because they are were soaked.

I am quite put put, I loved them and I only got to wear them a small handful of times… I paid 25 quid for them at a market, is it worth me buying expensive suede cleaning equipment and the energy and frustration of cleaning them,,, would they even go back to their original colour?

Yes I know, fucking idiot for going clubbing and a moron for wearing those shoes.

I once got into a bar with flip flops, door people didn’t spot it as otherwise I was well dressed, then the security inside nearly kicked me out! Also it was summer.
By the end of the evening some bloke and step pend on me and one nearly broke and I had to drag it behind me to get to the taxi stand. I suppose that’s the reason of no flip flops rule.

It’s not worth wearing nice shoes to busy places, I don’t have enough money to replace them so frequently. But then you end up never wearing your nice shoes!

What do people do?

Heat up the label with a hairdryer before trying to remove it and the whole lot just peels off.
