Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

It was from amazon, Unibond Grout reviver pen. The tiles have to be completely dry first.

Thanks! I'll try Unibond then.

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

Why can’t I understand this 😩😂 my super king duvet never ever fits in the sheet, it’s always too small and gets bunched one end!

OOh! Similar- the gift cupboard. Buy in the sales and throughout the year. Last year it saved me hundreds of pounds.

I do this

Never heard of them but might have to give these a try. Are they true to size?

They come in S M L. They do have a size chart. L is size 14 to 16 IME.

I didn’t read this on MN but I’m throwing it in anyway, because it’s such a great piece of information.

To fend off a UTI if you think you might be heading for one: Put a teaspoon of cream of tartar and a few drops of lemon juice in a mug of hot water, drink at first sign, and then again each morning add night, although I only had to drink it three times and it was gone, and I noticed an improvement within a couple of hours. It doesn’t taste too bad either, the only time I pulled a face was when I overdid the lemon juice.

The drink changes the pH inside the bladder, making it inhospitable to the bacteria causing the infection. It honestly works, I started getting symptoms at the start of a bank holiday weekend, knowing I couldn’t get to a doctor for at least four days. It’s only that fact that got me looking for other solutions.

Obvs not intended to replace medical advice blah blah.

Similarly, a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water to fend off cystitis. Drink a glass every 3-4hrs. My elderly mum has used this remedy for years.

SparklyGlitterballs · 23/04/2025 12:22

One thing I've read, and wished I'd known about it years ago, is to set up an email account when a child or grandchild is born. Over the years, send it snippets of information, photos, memories etc. then when the child reaches 18, hand them the access to the email so they can look back at a "scrapbook" of their childhood from birth to coming of age.

On Amazon they have them from XS right up to 5XL.

Thank you. I’m a wobbly 14 and carry for weight on my thighs, stomach and hips, so large might be for me.

SueSuddio · 23/04/2025 12:37

Someone once asked for parenting advice they wished they'd known.

One answer: 'on a sticker sheet, peel the surround off then the stickers are far easier for children to peel off' stuck with me

Not only is it genius but it summed up what looking after young children is really like - lots of little annoying problems/ donkeywork etc, more so than the 'big stuff'.

@TeaAndStrumpets @HowAmITheCatsGranny I pour mine into an enamel bowl, pop it into the fridge and voila, solid fat for binning or treating the dog.

If you have roasted the chicken and pour it into a bowl and refrigerate, underneath will be some juices. Use the fat for starting risotto and add the juices as you cook to enrich it.

I am having childhood flashbacks to bread and dripping now....Probably not in favour on MN but to us it was food of the gods!

My Mum would save the fat and jelly from things and use them to add flavour to many dishes. No bones were ever wasted, they were boiled to make fabulous stock.

My dad kept the fat in a bowl with a plate on in the fridge. Regularly updated with new fat. I tried not to think about it too much, but he did make the best chips in town, all my friends said so. I just never divulged what made them so great

I can't remember anything brilliant but I often adopt ideas. Someone here suggested putting a paint roller onto the broom handle to paint high ceilings. I did exactly that. A long time ago I read about soda crystals here and have used them ever since, in fact I bulk buy.

I'm sure there are more.

Using a broom handle on a roller helps you do walls faster too as can cover more area a lot quicker ☺

Why can’t I understand this 😩😂 my super king duvet never ever fits in the sheet, it’s always too small and gets bunched one end!

I think this tip is saying the "long" side of a super king duvet goes across the bed not up and down it. The duvet covers are designed this way around. The poppers are on a long side , which obviously goes at the foot of the bed. I am surprised people didn't realise this, which apparently makes me nasty.

This is what I understand happens when people complain about duvet being in the cover the wrong way. I don't understand why it happens, but that will explain bunched duvets and empty covers.

ChatGPT, is brilliant for holiday itineraries

I dunno ... it suggested stuff that was permanently closed to me :(

I am the only person who has not lost weight, by not drinking alcohol any more, it’s so sad

YesTonightJosephine · 23/04/2025 13:08

Does anyone have a link for the 'other' thread that has inspired this FABULOUS thread?

Thank you OP!

Apologies if I missed this earlier but now invested!

Thank you MN!

Jellycatspyjamas · 23/04/2025 13:10

@TeaAndStrumpets i have a Dorma duvet cover. It has a zip fastening that goes across the whole bottom of the cover - much easier to change and no annoying poppers.

Robinsinthegarden · 23/04/2025 13:10

Robotic vacuum cleaner and store your plastic tubs with lid on.

One I thought of myself was to hang onto large mayo jars and jam jars and then any thing like cream or yoghurt that doesn’t come with a lid anymore are put in a jar with a lid. It’s quite surprising how long things last when stored like this.

Just recently, I’ve also started putting grapes into a tub with a snap lid and I’m finding that this improves the length of time they last as well.

A King size is 230x220 (WxL) so maybe not that obvious just by looking?

If you lay it out & pull one corner down diagonally though it'll be easy to see which is which.

RoseMarigoldViolet · 23/04/2025 13:22

Comparison is the thief of joy.

I learnt this on Mumsnet and I think of it often.

Citronella tea lights by the back door to reduce the number of flying bastards trying to enter the house in summer.

Flying bastards! Love it! But not them!

Well I found out that javelin arse if definitely a thing. I always wondered what was happening! However I had to wait until menopause to find it out!
