Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Since posters on here know a lot about duvets, could I ask if there is a make of duvet cover that has really good accessibility? I have a few covers where the slit at the bottom is much too short. Also a zipped cover would be fabulous!

A good quality quilted cotton bedspread is far easier to deal with than a duvet with a cover. Ours is big enough to hang well over the sides of an emperar bed (we like our space) washable, plus cool enough in the summer & if we need extra in the winter it's easy to add a matching throw. I'd never go back to duvets.

"...cooking with and loving PFB in stews etc. "

Surely PFB doesn't need slow cooking ?

What is the enzyme spray called please? I'm currently in a war of attrition with a furry bastard.

This one. They're very good now but when our two boys were kittens they were EXTREMELY fussy about their litter trays (we used CatSan which was half the issue as it does nothing to hide odour) and if they weren't completely changed in under 48 hours they found something else to piss on! Jumper or bag on the floor, rug, cushion... The spray, used and not washed off anywhere they've peed, stops them going back and clawing over the area, which I think in itself serves to make them think this is a legit place to toilet. I use if where they've been sick too, since it seems to stop them being upset about the residual smell (I can't smell it!) after I've wiped up with an antibacterial spray.

The other game-changer in terms of cat litter was switching to a corn based one - World's Best. Costly but needs far less changing. You just scoop out the pee 'cakes' and flush. Carefully.

Those pins to keep a king sized duvet in place inside the cover.

To use a spoon not a knife to remove avocado stones and also the flesh from the skin rather than trying to peel it. Saved me from many middle class injuries since I found that one as I am clumsy and on blood thinners.

What are these pins?? I need these! Also something to keep bottom sheet in place. Despite buying extra deep sheets they still ping off

ACynicalDad · 23/04/2025 11:13

LTB? It's certainly the most common advice here.

When the DC are young/poorly, layer their bed with plastic sheet, bedsheet, plastic sheet, bedsheet.

If your DC wets the bed in the night/throws up in bed, you can whip off the top bed sheet and plastic sheet and get them back into bed quicker.

yes, another brilliant MN tip I've learned and profited from! You know you're on a bad night if you run out of layers!

I have to know; what’s so amazing about the wirarpa underwear?! I need new pants, and it seems my preferred ones are no longer made (disaster!) and I can’t find any I like even half as much 😭

They're big and hold everything in! I got the size down, multi colour pack.

I’ve been talking mj for two months and lost two stone. I still have a long way to go and it’s not effortless, but it’s doable.
You might not qualify if you only have a stone to lose. You need BMI of 30, or 27 with a comorbidity.

Two stone is huge, well done! I'm looking at private, do you still need a prescription?

GlomOfNit · 23/04/2025 11:18

Forgot one - yellow Dettol soap for underarms! I get very stinky, I don't know why. I transitioned onto using tablet soap and this one in particular (all soaps should be antibacterial but this one is ++) from shower gels which really do NOT shift bacteria and the smell they make. I also started soaking the armpits of my favourite and most-worn tops, PJs and dresses in white vinegar for several hours before washing. And I slosh the vinegar in the wash instead of fabric softener, which I no longer buy. And use washing powder rather than liquid. All really help to cut down on stinky clothes.

I really wish I could try Monjaro but BMI is 29 and I don't think I should lie about it.

Cherrysoup · 23/04/2025 11:19

CharlotteBakewell · 23/04/2025 08:39

Never heard of them but might have to give these a try. Are they true to size?

Yes, I'd say so, I got the size down as I was still losing.

to edit : chatgpt was suggested by others and when i tried it i was hooked

I’m not one for embracing all the tech but ChatGPT has been amazing when I have had a personal issue that’s getting me down. It’s like having a really supportive and emotionally intelligent best friend. I have good friends that I can talk to in real life but Chat is a place I can really express myself. It’s like free therapy.

@Hatty65 this seams thing is new news. I have been battling this issue. I think I got my recent ones from linen bundle who helpfully put a tab in saying short side and long side, but I still end up a bit flummoxed - would have been even better if they put in head/foot and side!

I keep saying to my husband that there’s something wrong with the duvet. I’m running upstairs right now to change mine! Thank you thank you thank you!

Ihateslugs · 23/04/2025 11:27

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 23/04/2025 00:25

It never moves and I tend to tuck the duvet under my feet. Duvet is brushed cotton though so I can't say how well it'd work with a different duvet. I fold a bit over the top just because I prefer how it feels though.

I only tuck the top sheet under at the end of the mattress so it stays in place yet does not trap me in the rest of the bed. I used to have a sheet that was slightly brushed on one side which helped it grip the duvet but my new ones are smooth and I still cope.

To me with my arthritis, not to have to put duvet covers on is worth a lot! I was really struggling and probably not washing the cover enough before I changed to these coverless duvets.

Hoppinggreen · 23/04/2025 11:28

The duvet one is blowing my mind, I will be changing our superking duvet later so will give it a go.
I also put all the bedding into a pillow case, I didn't believe it was possible but it is, cuts down storage and means I always have a full set to hand.

Whattodowiththesewindows · 23/04/2025 11:30

@GalacticTowelMaster I use something like about:blank this and hang long items over a door.

Theadventuresofdiscomouse · 23/04/2025 11:37

Wirapa knickers are a game changer. Really nice cotton and true to size. Bought some for my mum initially but got them for myself too when I saw what lovely quality they are.

FairyPoppins · 23/04/2025 11:38

@Cherrysoup ... theres a very useful section about weight loss injections in the weight loss section - they have discount codes and lots of info about using Mounjaro - really helpful, whatever stage youre ar with weight loss.
off to look at Wirarpa knickers!!

Donttalkaboutit · 23/04/2025 11:38

Probably sounds really weird but I grew up not realising that your mother shouldn't be rude to you. That it's actually rude to comment on your child's weight or mock how they speak. I (try to!) speak respectfully to my kids and never make unkind comments to them or about other people in front of them. Like I literally had no idea.

That grouting pens are amazing for quickly making your bathroom look better and are very therapeutic to apply. It's a very zen experience with pleasing visual results. And lasts quite a long time.

Where did you get yours? What brand? I got one from Amazon that was awful. I really need a good one.

GameOfJones · 23/04/2025 11:46

isthismylifenow · 23/04/2025 08:39

I don't think we get these coverless ones where I live.

But, are they are thick as a normal duvet?
Are they warm enough for winter?
Will a king size fit in a normal washing machine?
Is it something like an comforter from back in the day?
What is the benefit of one apart from not having to put on a clean cover each week?

I don't know why I have so many questions about this? 😂

Edited

That made me laugh!

It's not as thick as a normal duvet, but just as warm. I may add a blanket over the top in the depths of winter but I did that anyway with a standard duvet.

Zero benefit other than the fact I don't have to wrestle with the duvet cover each week. I can just throw it on the bed and it's done. And I like the fact that the whole thing has been cleaned rather than just the cover. We swapped every duvet in the house to a coverless one a couple of years ago and have no regrets.

They're also very handy for taking when we go camping or stay in caravans.

No more hassle than washing a normal duvet set as the kingsize duvet, sheet and the pillowcases all go in the washing machine and then the tumble dryer together. I have a 9kg machine though which helps. I think a kingsize would be trickier to fit in a smaller washing machine.

@forrestfrankfan I'm trying skin + me and dermatica - I scoured posts on here and couldn't determine which people prefer, seemed to be personal. However, I haven't started the dermatica yet as they sent me 0.025 from the outset, which is much stronger than skin + me start you on, and even that is giving me some redness. But I'm open minded to switching, think I'll start trying the dermatica from next month. Prefer the skin + me presentation/packaging etc and the simplicity of their very limited other products. Dermatica is marginally cheaper but I'm not phased by the cost of skin + me, seems pretty good value considering you can't use all the other expensive products alongside. E.g. it saved me c£60 replacing my Sunday Riley Good Genes this week as they would be too much used together.

I love dermatica, it has made a huge difference. I had to use once a day when I started as it was making my skin slightly raw, but I've been using it nearly a year now and my skin is much better

It was from amazon, Unibond Grout reviver pen. The tiles have to be completely dry first.

When I moved into my flat, the previous owner had (I'm sure) fried everything she'd ever cooked and the kitchen grout was stained a grotty brown colour. No amount of scrubbing or bleaching improved it, so I bought some Unibond Grout Reviver pens from Amazon and they covered all the staining perfectly.
