As per the title - Easter Sunday is off to a dreadful start with ā€˜D’ H and I already having had an argument.

Some background, we have individual insta’s but for any major ā€˜announcements/events’ as such we will use the collaboration feature so the post appears on both our grids. Think engagement, wedding, pregnancy-gender reveal/birth, anniversary etc.

It’s our DD’s first Easter so I’ve got her a brilliant outfit, some props and of course eggs. I’ve also got a personalised sort of sign which says it’s her first Easter.

I said to H I’ll get the photos done after breakfast and we can joint post. He says it’s stupid to do this and doesn’t warrant all the effort as it’s ’only Easter’ so he won’t be putting it on his grid.

AIBU to feel pissed off with him? It will look strange if it’s only on my page.

This is an odd one.

even weirder than you seem to be happy that you have managed to get him to finally agree and can’t see the issue.

You are trying so hard to communicate this social media image that you completely disregard his view. The whole ā€˜I will be livid if he pulls this stunt for our wedding anniversary’ is very telling.

This is entirely about you. No one really cares about your anniversary. No one cares enough about whether the same post appears on his social media and yours. It’s not for your child, it not for him, it’s not for anyone else. It’s not so you can communicate more effectively with family. It’s about you appearing a certain way.

and you are so focused on this you don’t care about wether he actually also wants to engage in this staged behaviour.

and I do engage in social media. I earn a modest income off it. When it’s got to the point that someone telling you they don’t want to participate has you pissed off, there’s an issue. But it appears that as long as you get your own way, you are happy. That will continue to create problems.

I'm looking forward to the DHs divorce posts on insta

Poor man, being bullied into submission

I think you’re being ridiculous but I guess this is what happens when Gen X become parents.

Gen x were about 1968-1979/80 - most of our kids are beyond first birthdays. I think you mean gen y/millenials

Wintersgirl · 20/04/2025 10:21

Whatslovegottodo25 · 20/04/2025 10:15

Also for those who care, he has already picked his two photos out for our anniversary post so no issues there either x

Why are you bothering though? Seriously, no one cares about your anniversary except you and your DH...

Stravaig · 20/04/2025 10:21

MN will be here when you and your child need us, DH.

You’ve got your gens mixed up. Gen x is 1965-1980.

Starlight7080 · 20/04/2025 10:21

This cannot be real .
Do people behave like this ?actually put this much effort in to worrying about social media?
It's not worth falling out over.
Probably not good for your kids to think social media is worth all this hassle.
It's not real

Coatsoff42 · 20/04/2025 10:21

Spare a thought for if your DC want to be on your insta when they grow up, I know a fair few kids pissed off with their parents when they get older for allowing school ā€˜friends’ access to their baby photos or little kids videos to screen shot and bully them over.

Tiredallthetimenow · 20/04/2025 10:22

Feel sorry for your DD that she has a lifetime of being a performing seal ahead of her. Can only imagine how well it’s going to go for you both in a couple of years when she tries to tell you she doesn’t like having her photo taken.

Wintersgirl · 20/04/2025 10:24

PruthePrune · 20/04/2025 10:13

@Sailead

Agreed it is ridiculous but I don't think it is us Xer's, more like Millennials onwards

Even some Millennials are in their mid forties now...

You’re right but the OP is someone that believes the whole world is awaiting her major announcements. I’m surprised she doesn’t just employ a press officer.

Thistooshallpass. · 20/04/2025 10:24

The problem of social media - don’t feel or experience , enjoy anything …. Just as long as it looks good .
ā€œpropsā€ for Easter ?!
already scheduling anniversary content .
what a sad , vapid existence- reliant on the validation of others .
Delete instagram and live !

ChiliFiend · 20/04/2025 10:24

Whatslovegottodo25 · 20/04/2025 08:35

Yeah it’s the latter. He isn’t the one who has gone to all the effort to get the outfits and props etc, I’ve sorted everything and it feels unappreciative of him to turn round and say he wants nothing to do with it.

It’s our wedding anniversary in a few weeks and I’ll be livid if he pulls a similar stunt.

Perhaps (like most of us) he thinks it's wholly unnecessary to buy an outfit and props and personalised crap to post on Instagram for some likes. Re the "similar stunt" for your wedding anniversary, are you expecting him to post on Instagram for that? If so, that is beyond lame - he doesn't have to post anything about his family if he doesn't want to; that's entirely his business.

Maybe try to understand why it's so important for you for everyone to know you have a cute baby and loving husband - isn't just having those things more than enough? And given you're already achieving this via your own Instagram, try to understand why it's so important for you for him to post these things? You will feel a lot better in yourself if you stop caring about this nonsense.

Honestly, OP, I would be more concerned about the quality of your relationship and whether it is going to last than whether your husband is going to do a joint post on your anniversary.

You've managed to exert control on this occasion, but it's a win for your insta feed and not your marriage. Might be worth reflecting on which is actually more important to you.

whatkatydid2014 · 20/04/2025 10:26

I struggle to believe this isn’t some kind of long running, fairly unfunny, joke linked to other weird posts about social media.

Bobnobob · 20/04/2025 10:27

Oh this is just horrible. Pages and pages of women tripping over themselves to tell another woman she’s awful for wanting to share some photos of her baby’s first Easter online. Honestly how is that a kind or helpful thing to do?

DefinitelyMaybe92 · 20/04/2025 10:27

Darhon · 20/04/2025 10:21

Not necessarily. Millenials are early 30s to mid-40s now. The oldest Gen Z are 28/29. I guess we’ll never know…

OP has posted about Mother's Day, her birthday, and now Easter.
Yes, I spend too much time on MN.

Well he has seen sense and agreed to a joint post, I’m sure you’ll be relieved to hear!

So he has caved in and will post an Insta picture that pretends you are all the perfect family, who never fall out, and are having Baby's First Easter, @Whatslovegottodo25?

This is the third such thread I have seen recently - the one with a poster complaining her partner didn't put up a performative Mother's Day Insta post for her is one of the others.

I genuinely cannot understand why it is more important to post perfect, curated pictures on Instagram than to actually go and live real life. It honestly seems as if some people care more about the shallow representation of their life, rather than actually having one.

SunnyDenimKoala · 20/04/2025 10:29

I'm sure a few people here have watched some of the recent documentaries about family vloggers/Social media and severe child abuse.

And no, I don't think family vlogging always = a child being abused off-camera or that OP is abusing anyone.

But when you hear the statements of DC and DPs who were involved in these situations.

How everyone in the family had a fucking miserable time till they plasted on the smiles and did the posts wifey/ Mummy wanted them to because every event which should be a nice family day was ruined by her cats bum face, anger and emotional manipulation till she got the SM post she wanted - there are a lot of red flags here

MoveYourSelfDearie · 20/04/2025 10:30

How do you have the time to be bothered about any aspect of what you've written? Don't you have any real problems?!
