Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

No I’m responding to a nasty comment by a sarky cow

And you said you hoped their dog "drops dead"? Seriously? I can't believe you've ever owned a dog, let alone one for 14 years. I lost my 17 year old Westie in January and I would never say such a vile thing to a dog owner.

rwalker · 19/04/2025 19:31

totally agree went for a meal last week not restaurant but the higher end of pub food

massive fluffy smelly dog by the bar then someone brought in a little yappy fucker

never go there again arsehole owner’s completely oblivious

Friartruckster · 19/04/2025 19:32

I hate it but only because I’m so jealous. My Ddog died just before Covid when dogs couldn’t go into any cafes or shops. If I had her now, we’d be having a fab time going here there and everywhere. So I am a grumpy misery guts simply because it’s not fair. ☹️

MadamCholetsbonnet · 19/04/2025 19:32

The dog haters can all gather at Wetherspoons and sit there complaining about other people’s pets and why business owners are allowed to make their own decisions about who they admit.

YeOldeGreyhound · 19/04/2025 19:27

Costa have allowed dogs for a while now. I have only seen one dog in there since they were allowed though. It was a puppy, and I asked for a cuddle. Made my day 😁

Awful

Or people could stop taking animals to people places.

The establishment owner decides what type of place it is. Not you

Awful

Puppy cuddles for people who like them are awful??

You have a strange view on life.

Awful

How awful that something cheered me up? My own dog was very poorly at the time (I almost her PTS) so seeing this little puppy helped me a lot.

The puppy was under the owner's chair and not in the way of anyone.

People could just leave their dogs at home

I don’t mind it as long as they are well trained.

But just as if your child is kicking off if your dog is barking at everyone who goes past then please take them out.

we went out for a meal last week and there was a lovely dog at a table nearby, happily sat not creating any issues. Another couple came in with two dogs who spent 10 minutes barking at the other dog (who did little more than raise his head!). In the end the owner of the well behaved dog ended up taking him out which was unfair on her but she understandably didn’t want other diners disturbed.

Dogs, unless service dogs should not be allowed in restaurants ..
Constantly in shops aswel , I have a dog , so I like dogs & she stays indoors with us , hairs go everywhere & that’s a fact .
Inside in restaurants, where hair could easily go into food , is unhygienic & disgusting, especially when a dog is shedding..🤷🏻‍♀️

wastingtimeonhere · 19/04/2025 19:35

Those commenting on kids in restaurants, I grew up in the 70s, I occasionally went to a greasy spoon cafe while in London at a hospital appointment. I was a teenager until I went to a pub restaurant and adult before I went to a proper restaurant. I still know how to behave. Children don't need to be in adult spaces all the time. Pubs used to let dogs in but not children.

It’s outrageous you can’t take a drink in some shocks but can take an animal.

Maybe, seeing as you dislike so many things, you should be left at home.

Reflectionsreflections · 19/04/2025 19:37

Op can bitch and moan and complain all she wants. A lot of business allow dogs because it makes good business sense and because a lot of people actually do like dogs. Unlucky op, you aren’t going to get what you want, no matter how much you whine and complain. A bit like a toddler really…….

As small kids, me and my sister were sat outside the pub with coke and crisps whilst my dog got drunk inside with the dog.
People also used to leave babies in pushchairs outside of shops.

I just don’t think they should be allowed everywhere.

We’ve just come back from our holiday (with both child and dog!) We booked a dog caravan in the dog area of the site, took the dog everywhere she was allowed, even ate at the onsite pub, making sure we booked a ‘dog’ table. If she’d have kicked off at any point I’d have taken her out, exactly like I did if DC kicked off when they were a toddler (have vivid memories of carting a planking DC out of Nando’s under my arm!). I always make sure places are dog friendly before we go there and would never subject Ddog to being carted round the shops. Any fault lies with inconsiderate dog owners…

Exactly this. 👆
If DH and I were going out to eat at a venue that wasn't dog-friendly we'd just leave our dog at home. If we were going somewhere that was dog-friendly, we might take him with us (most pubs only allow dog's in the bar area, not the restaurant area). If dog owners can do a quick internet search to check if a venue is dog-friendly, I don't understand why people who object to them so much in public places can't do the same and avoid those places. It's really not difficult.

People will tell you to keep your children in.
They genuinely think a DOG trumps a child with a phobia

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/04/2025 19:38

It has always been legally ok to take dogs to all sorts of places, the only legal restrictions being commercial kitchens/food prep areas.

Bricks n mortar stores/restaurants/shopping malls.. are all suffering badly, and need the foot traffic.

They have realised that letting dogs in increases custom.

So your choices are to go to these places and put up with dogs being there, or to not go and probably lose them all together.

OR you could encourage more non-dog-having people to go to actual physical stores and cafes, spend money and let them know your preference for it not to be dog friendly. If enough people did that and maintained their spending, its likely shops would reduce dog access again.

What you won't do is achieve change by moaning about it on MN though.

It always makes me laugh when you get dog haters call people who take their dogs to places where they are allowed, 'entitled'.
The irony is just lost on them.

I just don’t think they should be allowed everywhere.

You dislike businesses that allow things you don't think they should. That's many things, because there's many businesses.

If you don't want to go somewhere there might be dog hair, stay home. A dog might walk by you and shake their hair onto you if you venture out.

Appledrop · 19/04/2025 19:39

Our Costa are notorious for allowing dogs to sit on the seats, regardless of their cleanliness. The staff often pet these animals without washing their hands afterward, continuing to serve food and drinks to customers. This lack of hygiene extends to the seating, as they do not clean the seats after dogs have been on them. In fact, I witnessed one dog that looked like it had just rolled in a mud puddle and one unsuspecting woman then sat on it after they had left. It's concerning for both patrons and pets alike.
