Sadly you are the minority

No she isn’t at all. I sat in a coffee shop today by the beach lot of dogs - not a peep, Even when the kid who was running round bouncing his ball got in their faces. Most dogs are very well behaved

There can never be enough threads about this as far as I'm concerned.

In the last week I've seen a dog lick a plate clean and another dog fussing round my ankles expecting me to feed them.

In both cases, I blamed the owner not the dog.

Entitled dog owners are the problem, not the dogs.

Whilst Spoons isn't my food outlet of choice, I applaud their policy of banning all (except guide) dogs. It makes me choose them over other establishments when a decision needs making.

Agree wholeheartedly! The more people are vocal about not liking it the more the dog nutters will have to realise that their choice to get a pet does not need to impact on other people.

You cannot compare it to children. Children are small people who have a right and a need to be in people spaces so that they can learn to person. They will also become adults who are able to complain about dogs on an internet forum. A dog will always be a dog.

This. Half the time you don’t even realise they’re in there until the owner leaves- unlike children!

I really don’t give a toss what you think my lovely

Clearly you are more invested in this thread than you are letting on or you wouldn’t have been so awful. I’m not arsed if you care what I think, I was calling you out for your nasty behaviour.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 19/04/2025 19:19

I'd rather have dogs in restaurants than kids. Dogs are mostly better behaved and far, far cuter.

Keep kids out of pubs - they should be adult places only (with their dogs).

A pub near me allows dogs but not kids. It is ace :)

Children don’t have a right to eating out.😂

If it didn't pay for businesses to let dogs in they wouldn't. Those not wanting dogs need to put their money into businesses without dogs there, making it sooo profitable that the dog businesses look and copy.
Dog owners spend money in cafes etc all year round, they are out every day in all weathers. Object..then get out, take the children, get them out in all weathers out, support the local businesses every day and make it profitable to not have dog owners.
I take my dog with us while we are on holiday and aim to be in outside gardens at pubs/ tea rooms for lunches. She is a big dog and takes up space. We research dog friendly before we go to attractions. You don't want me there, fine, you support the businesses and they won't want or need my custom. Spoiler for you, often my dog is complimented on her behaviour and some of these places say they prefer dogs to noisy drunk/ smelly/ foul mouthed adults and noisy, screaming kids running about. As for the smell, fair point but it's no worse than the smell of cannabis and BO Spoons

Well it’s up to the cafe to enforce good behaviour.
I find it as shocking to see dogs on chairs as I do children standing on them. I dint allow either, but if I owned a cafe, I’d be enforcing that.

its disgusting when you see dogs licking and sniffing tables and I dint want to sit where a dog’s bum has sat.

They don’t, cafes and pubs don’t have to allow children. HTH

SharpOpalNewt · 19/04/2025 19:21

Yesterday we took dog to some dog friendly gardens and went to the cafe for lunch. We wanted to sit on the outside tables but they were all taken. Was amazed that the dog was allowed in the indoor bit - I did ask first - even so it was open to the elements with a stone floor so rather indoor/outdoor. She even had a dog ice cream. If she hadn't have been allowed in we'd probably not have eaten there - so I guess business are thinking about that x dozens of customers with dogs, and only a minority who hate them so much that they wouldn't want to eat somewhere with dogs around.

I wouldn't take her shopping and into Costa or something and she can be left at home. I don't tend to take her to local pubs as they are old and tiny and she takes up so much space! But it is nice that she can come on some family days out and holidays.

JaimeLannister · 19/04/2025 19:21

Idiot, irresponsible people are the problem, not the dogs. If someone knows their dog will bark, pee, poo, growl or not settle then they shouldn't take them to places it isn't appropriate. Common sense and respect.
There is a cafe I know that is dog friendly and very popular. I don't take my dog there after a walk as the tables are too close together and he doesn't fit under them. I won't have him lying where people need to walk and get in the way. If there is an option to sit outside I always will.
I wouldn't take him clothes shopping etc as I couldn't look at things and properly keep an eye on him, plus its not that fun for him as he would have to be in a tight heel for as long as we were shopping.
But a dog friendly cafe after a walk where he gets a biscuit and a snooze under the table? Yes, we do that.

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 19:20

They don’t have a right.🤣I don’t notice many laws saying children must be taken to restaurants otherwise it’s a breach of human rights. I grew up in the 70s, eating out was rare and children in pubs was even rarer. We survived and I’d say our social skills were waaay better than those that kids have today.

ejsmith99 · 19/04/2025 19:24

Where are these places where dogs are overrunning every shop, cafe and shopping centre? Sounds fun, I'd like to visit. In the meantime I'll smile at dogs in those 10-15% of dog friendly businesses whilst you have the other 85% to choose from

SharpOpalNewt · 19/04/2025 19:25

Same with kids really. Many pubs started to only be able to make good money as dining places and people want to eat out with their kids. Also they can not as easily be left at home. Each business does the maths as to what's important for them.

Felinnefine · 19/04/2025 19:25

Ooo did I read from a pp that Costa are now allowing dogs? Excellent if so! I look forward to popping in with my gorgeous well-behaved dog.

Also excellent news is that Wetherspoons are dog free. All the people that hate dogs and love Wetherspoons in one place. Ideal all round.

EntropyCentral · 19/04/2025 19:26

I'm just generally fed up of dogs everywhere. I don't much mind dogs that are just minding their own business and leaving me alone, but these seem to be few and far between nowadays.

sleepwouldbenice · 19/04/2025 19:26

Tootiredtowhat · 19/04/2025 18:08

Yawn. Just comment on one of the other threads moaning about this.

Ironically I was thinking that there hadn't been a thread for a while, but here we go...
OP, of course dogs should be under control and behaving when in a cafe, pub etc. Some idiot owners don't enforce this so for those reasons YANBU.

But, on the whole you just don't seem to want any dogs. From what I see there is plenty of choice to go to places without dogs, especially for restaurants. So overall YABU. It's up to the establishment to decide what type of place they offer, you can then decide not to go there. Easy

Costa have allowed dogs for a while now. I have only seen one dog in there since they were allowed though. It was a puppy, and I asked for a cuddle. Made my day 😁

handsdownthebest · 19/04/2025 19:27

We actually thought long and hard about getting a dog..,and decided against it. Just sick and tired of dogs every fucking where. Can’t go to a shop, cafe or event without dogs everywhere.
The dog shelters are full of them too because people haven’t got a clue of that’s involved in keeping a dog.
BTW i love dogs. Our lovely mutt lived to age 18.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 19/04/2025 19:28

UndermyShoeJoe · 19/04/2025 19:03

No when we had dogs we planned our days accordingly which didn’t involve dragging then markets or shops and pubs.

We went to places where we could let them run and have fun and take food with us. If we wanted a pubby beach walk the dogs did not come.

Presumably you're lucky enough to live next to everything you want to visit? The beach? The dales? The moors? The hills?

If we want a day at the beach it's a minimum of 90 miles away, if we want a nicer beach it's further. So it's a full day out, with the dog. Sometimes we take food, sometimes we might want fish and chips by the sea. Sometimes it might tip it down and we want to take shelter indoors.

We might decide to make a day of a trip to a NT property (many if which allow dogs). Sometimes we'll take a picnic and others we'll eat there.

I don't drag my dog round shops but she does get to come on family days out. Which, sometimes, happen to be the entire day not just the morning. We plan them for dog friendly places.

If you don't like dogs, you have a choice to not go to dog friendly places. But many places like the NT or coastal towns will be dog friendly because a massive chunk of the business comes from outdoorsy people, who often have dogs.
