Just this really

Or people could stop taking animals to people places.

Oh come on, plenty of bars and restaurants don’t allow dogs. PLENTY.

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 19:35

Orrrrr

People could just leave their dogs at home

Still not getting it are you
It's supply and demand. Establishments can make their own decisions about what to allow/ offer
You make your decision about if you want to go there

LBFseBrom · 19/04/2025 19:40

If they are well behaved and quiet, I don't see the problem. They are not allowed to go where food is prepared or to jump on, sniff, the table so why worry?

5128gap · 19/04/2025 19:40

You need to take it up with the establishments welcoming dogs, or else just vote with your wallet. There is no point in complaining about people who like dogs taking their dogs to a place where the owners also like dogs. Because in that trio of relevant parties, your view is overridden.

Presumably you're lucky enough to live next to everything you want to visit? The beach? The dales? The moors? The hills?

If we want a day at the beach it's a minimum of 90 miles away, if we want a nicer beach it's further. So it's a full day out, with the dog. Sometimes we take food, sometimes we might want fish and chips by the sea. Sometimes it might tip it down and we want to take shelter indoors.

We might decide to make a day of a trip to a NT property (many if which allow dogs). Sometimes we'll take a picnic and others we'll eat there.

I don't drag my dog round shops but she does get to come on family days out. Which, sometimes, happen to be the entire day not just the morning. We plan them for dog friendly places.

If you don't like dogs, you have a choice to not go to dog friendly places. But many places like the NT or coastal towns will be dog friendly because a massive chunk of the business comes from outdoorsy people, who often have dogs.

We were relatively lucky. We have private access to land with lakes and ponds and owned a rental by the beach. If we wanted a holiday without the dogs and frankly even as a dog owner I said it wasn’t actually a holiday if the dogs came 😅 they went to a family members for the entire time and we repaid the favour when they went away.

The dogs pretty much only came to the beach out of season when it was cooler and not as busy so more enjoyable for them and of course because it was ours we could leave them to pop to the pub or pool.

AcquadiP · 19/04/2025 19:41

Why are going to places which allow dogs when you clearly don't like them? Eat elsewhere!

Heavymetaldetector · 19/04/2025 19:42

HoskinsChoice · 19/04/2025 18:21

This is great news! More room for smiley friendly people when you're not there with your miserable grumpiness. 🥳

This attitude annoys me and is so prevalent at the moment. If you have a dog allergy/phobia, not enjoying dogs everywhere is put down to "miserable grumpiness". We have basically stopped going to cafes due to dogs in literally every single one around here.

The thing that gets me is on menus it will say "let us know of any allegies" but what if you have a dog allergy? Really common allergy to have, but this apparently doesn't qualify as something to accommodate. I have been making suggestions to dog friendly places about considering having dog friendly areas and dog free areas to try and accommodate everyone.

We have a double whammy, I'm.very allergic to dogs so can't be in the same room as one at all, and my son has learning difficulties and a terrible phobia of them, the reason I mention the LD is just to try to explain that his reaction to them is very extreme and not something he can simply overcome with "oh but Fidos friendly why don't you try and introduce them?" Which I get a lot as I have an 8 year old literally crawling up my and on to my head and screaming to get away from them. With them being in shops as well, it has made going out anywhere very difficult indeed. They are also dog friendly at my local bank now, for some reason. So for the "if you don't like it, go elsewhere" people, I would love to! But in our area at least it is getting increasingly difficult to avoid dogs. Oh! And last thing. When we go to dog free parks, there is often still one or two dogs in there! Dog free spaces, what little is left of them, need to be kept dog free. Even DS school, where there are numerous dogs on the way in as everyone walks their dog to school, which I can fully understand, then are bringing the dog into the playground, walking casually past the No Dogs sign. So. It feels like they are absolutely eeeeeeeverywhere at the moment.

It always makes me laugh when you get dog haters call people who take their dogs to places where they are allowed, 'entitled'.
The irony is just lost on them.

Where have I said I hate dogs

Not really you told a poster you hoped her dog dropped dead soon, not many decent people would say that even if they didn’t like dogs.

Maybe get out for a bit.

Calling someone a cunt and hoping their dog drops dead is not the words of someone who likes dogs.

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 18:22

Yes just to note until last year I had a lovely staffy for 14 years

Ah, the 'Widow's Revenge'.

The Brazilian wandering spider (Phoneutria nigriventer), also known as the "Widow's Revenge," is a venomous spider whose bite can cause a painful and prolonged erection in males, a condition known as priapism. This is due to the spider's venom, which contains compounds like Tx2-6 that stimulate nitric oxide production, a key player in the erection process.

Actually I think I may have misread your post...🤗

MN deleted because it broke TalkGuidlines.

birdieblues · 19/04/2025 19:45

For me, it’s the adults that talk and laugh loudly, chattering on in voices that could probably break glass. I have seen these types of loud voices set both dogs and small children off (and of course both the dogs and children are then seen to be at fault).

I wish cafes could kick these types of people out. I would rather have my cafe experience with the dogs and small children, and not the loud, chattering adults who think they are being so witty over their eggs.

We actually thought long and hard about getting a dog..,and decided against it. Just sick and tired of dogs every fucking where. Can’t go to a shop, cafe or event without dogs everywhere.
The dog shelters are full of them too because people haven’t got a clue of that’s involved in keeping a dog.
BTW i love dogs. Our lovely mutt lived to age 18.

Our lovely Westie lived to 17 (lost him in January) and I can't imagine writing "Just sick and tired of dogs every fucking where." Maybe you were sick and tired of your old dog too.

BoredZelda · 19/04/2025 19:45

I see it from both sides, having had a daughter who was terrified of dogs, and now being a dog owner. There was a time around about 2012 where suddenly far more places were dog friendly and it was a real PITA for us. But as time went on it was clear the issue was badly behaved dog owners, not the dogs themselves.

I go to lots of places that allow dogs and they aren’t generally pissing and shitting all over the place. Those who wouldn’t pick up mess after a dog are just as bad as those who don’t clean up after their toddlers and there are plenty of those around.

Now we have a dog and have to plan a day around how long the dog can be left alone. This can be difficult so we look for dog friendly places. Contrary to what’s being said here, dogs are definitely not allowed everywhere. It is pretty easy to find a place that doesn’t allow dogs.

That must be very difficult for you.

However, you must be aware that absolutely anywhere you go could have assistance dogs in it, and they could cause an allergic reaction or trigger someone with a phobia. There is case law which prioritises the needs of a disabled person requiring an assistance animal above the needs of someone with an allergy or phobia.

Trains and buses will be full of animal dander, and every single airplane you have ever been on will have had sniffer dogs running all over it.
