Just this really

I strongly suspect that a lot of the dog owners on this thread are the same people who wash their loo brush in their dishwasher.

What on earth you’re clutching at loo brushes there aren’t you. I’ve always owned dogs and have never even considered this a thing.

GoodLaudanum · 20/04/2025 21:05

Well most humans tongues have not just recently been licking their own arse

No, someone else's intimate areas, right before date night at these lovely animals free restaurants PP is talking about.

The fact is, people are quite disgusting too. I don't particularly want to eat off plates dogs have licked but providing they've been cleaned first it makes no odds whether it was a dog or a human whose mouth was on them previously. They've been washed, they are clean when they land on your table.

If they haven't been, I don't care who or what had them before, I won't be eating there.

Hopefully the dog craze will be over soon and we can get back to normal with no dogs being allowed in human spaces such as shops, eateries and hospitals etc. They are only animals, after all.

I’ve had dogs for 30 years and they’ve always been allowed in these places. Companies that allow it have clearly increased because they can see a financial benefit for it. Long may it continue and as a general rule we don’t take our dogs everywhere with us, unless we are away on holiday but I generally like the majority of the population (because these places are always full) have no issue with it.

Children pick their noses, stick their hands down their pants and just about everywhere, are allowed to roam and make noise….. they are allowed to touch the table and utensils. Dogs are kept under tables on leads. Yeah not comparable. I’d take dogs over children in restaurants any day.

My child does not stick their hands down their pants and then use utensils at a restaurant 🤣 these defensive comments are becoming more and more absurd 😆

Irish24 · 21/04/2025 07:24

I find it very concerning that people here literally cannot leave their dogs alone in the house at all while they go out and feel the need to take them everywhere. Is that healthy? Or is that for you or the dog? Dogs need to also have some sort of independence I.e house trained if they were to be left alone and what happens if the dog is no longer with you? How would you cope without it? I had a work colleague who took her dogs to work and left them in the car and walked them on lunch breaks and I genuinely asked her could she not leave them at home and she said they couldn’t cope on their own. I’m sorry but I don’t think that’s healthy or fair on the dog to be locked up in a car while your in work.
I also find it even more concerning that people are more protective over dogs than actual human children. what is that about?

My dog does not lick her arse then a plate.

I've seen kids in cafes and restaurants with their hands down their pants. Mine doesn't but others do. I've seen kids, including my own, with their finger up their nose. We tell her not to but that's a thing all kids do. Those fingers then touch other things in said cafe/restaurant and unless the parents are antibac wiping everything, those things will then be touched by another human.

I have child and dog and I treat my dog like a dog, but we still love her and take her on days out, which sometimes require a lunch stop. (Some) cafes allowing dogs in means that over a third of the households in the country are catered for on family days out. How is that a bad thing?

People should be keeping their dogs AND children under control in these establishments. Dogs because that's the right, sociable, thing to do and kids because they won't learn how to behave in them otherwise. But there are people who don't want dogs in places and people who don't want kids there.

Both are allowed if the owner of the establishment says they are, if you don't want to go places where they're allowed, that's fine, go somewhere else. I don't want to eat places where people like OP will openly call me a c* and wish my dog dead, so I won't.

Of course not! It’s always someone’s else’s children that misbehave or do gross things. I have honestly lost count of the number of children running around in hotels (buffet breakfasts are the WORST) sticking their hands in the food, getting in the way, shouting and carrying on. It happens a lot and yet I have never known a single parent admit that that is what their child does?

My dog does not have fleas( most dogs are on monthly tablets to stop fleas) and like most dogs she never licks her arse and then a plate. She rarely licks her arse at all and never licks plates so there we go. Let’s quit with the ridiculous defensive child comments shall we! We’ve all been stuck in restaurants with noisy children allowed to treat cafes like the local toddler group( hence an array of signs on SM and in cafes) but rarely have I ever seen the dog behaviour described on here in cafes.

I work in retail and I am sick of customers trying to sneak dogs in on any pretext. They hide them in coats, bags and prams and abuse security when challenged. Last week one customer told me their “emotional support” dog didn’t need to be trained as they were just for petting! Another customer who had the dog sat in the **ing trolley was shocked to be told it had to leave ! If you are a couple surely one can wait outside with the dog . I love my dog but I am pretty sure he wouldn’t enjoy being in a crowded supermarket and it would be cruel to take him plus he couldn’t be trusted not to cock his leg

Soddingcat · 21/04/2025 07:49

How ridiculous. Lol 😂

SewingIsMySuperPower · 21/04/2025 07:55

I'm afraid I'm a 'more dogs, less people' person. Most of the dogs I encounter are lovely and well behaved. The same cannot be said for people.

This weekend we visited the ILs. Met 2 adorable dogs in a local cafe. First one was already there when we arrived. Had no idea she was there until her owner went to pay and she popped out from under the table. Second one arrived afterwards. Bit more energetic (no barking or jumping though), but just wanted a fuss and clearly loved people.

My husband now knows that if we're somewhere that allows dogs and I disappear, I've probably spotted a dog and I've gone to see if im allowed to stroke it 😂

I think there should be kid free and dog free cafes, I hate badly behaved dogs and badly behaved kids equally 🙃

I’ve never seen a dog in a supermarket, not even a service dog. Are you as vigilant with kids and their dirty shoes in trolleys, kids running around and bumping into people, kids left to roam and treating the whole shop as a hide and seek venue, kids in scooters in mall as and yes shops, kids touching fresh unpackaged produce….

The amount of people that compare children to dogs on this is actually appalling

Onleemoi · 21/04/2025 08:09

It really is appalling. Children are much more annoying.

Appalling!🤣
Where Is the memo saying society should put up with dreadful behaviour from children in shops and cafes?
The desperate accusations re dogs some are using because cafe owners decide who they want in their cafes is so entitled. Posters are simply pointing out that if you want to use these measures it’s a tad hypocritical given the increasing anti social behaviour of children.

Nah entitled dog owners are far worse in my opinion.

Anti social behaviour is more from teenagers, not children. It’s extremely concerning that people would defend dogs more over an actual child human being. it actually baffles me

Ok, I'll leave my well behaved dog home (and have people crying animal neglect) but allow my three year old to pick her nose and then run up to your table and touch your food.

Happy?

It really isn’t. Haven’t seen any of the behaviour I’ve described by teenagers just children.

You clearly haven’t tried sitting in many cafes recently. The entitlement from parents of toddlers and pre schoolers and even older is on another level.

Very concerning that you would choose to leave a 3 year old at home but not your own dog…

Yes...that's what I said....

GoodLaudanum · 21/04/2025 08:35

There are 13 million dogs in England. There are 3.5 million preschool children.

Dogs are clearly the bigger problem here.
