Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

Dogs aren’t welcome though. Some Cafe owners have put welcome signs yes, for business reasons but it’s chicken and egg. Dog owners started bringing dogs first and cafes relented. I notice no sign places still have dogs in them as owners assume no sign means welcome. Cafe owners not kicking them out does not mean they welcome dogs.

Kardamyli2 · 20/04/2025 11:26

Nope. I spend very little time near people I don't know. Rarely use public transport and the office I work in has very few dog owners. Even those who have dogs dont come to work in the same clothes they wore when grooming their dog. Walking past a dog owner in a shop or standing next to one outside would not bother my allergy.

I think people just need educated on how allergies actually work or just being ignorant. No need to explain yourself

You don't know that. The cafe I go to has dog treats there and puppachinos too. All dogs coming in get a very warm welcome from the owner.
You are implying that cafe owners are begrudgingly allowing dogs and that simply is not true.

Well I always ask. Cafe owner should also say

Cherrytree86 · 20/04/2025 14:05

YANBU op. Dogs don’t wipe their arse when they’ve been for a shit and you see people sitting them on the chairs!!

What? If there's no sign letting me know dogs are welcome I ask a member of staff before entering. Ive never seen half the behaviours people describe here and I eat out a lot. I've seen a few of poor owners on occasion but it's pretty rare.

Also no dog should be left to roam around and licking peoples hands either while eating. I’ve also witnessed dogs peeing in a restaurant who have now banned dogs from
coming in thankfully. That’s disgusting. I’ve also saw dogs bark and growl when a child innocently comes up to them. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. That’s why leads exist for dogs because they need to kept under control. A restaurant isn’t a place for them. Dogs also
lick their private parts and children’s hands can easily be washed. It’s a mad world where people think dogs should be allowed in food establishments more than children. Madness lol

Dogs shouldn't roam
Neither should the kids
It's really not difficult

But no sign on a door does not mean dogs are banned. I would never enter an establishment that had a sign up saying "Dogs Welcome", unfortunately very few places say "No Dogs".

Actually plenty say no dogs. Just look and ask

FearistheMindKillerr · 20/04/2025 14:13

I’ve just spent the last hour being tortured by the noise of the incessantly yappy dog downstairs.

It’s head-wrecking to me that only a few years ago I was genuinely considering getting a dog instead of having children. Utter madness.

I don’t like big dogs either. There’s an awful donkey of a hound that gets walked on the green outside and does massive cow-pat sized shits where children play. Owners are MC in appearance.

Thankfully don’t see many bull breeds around anymore as the chavs are moving out and muslims are moving in and they mostly don’t keep dogs, thankfully.

Just general dog hating rather than the questions of the thread then

Dogs are nicer than humans who actually torture each other and enjoy it given half a chance. I certainly don't think humanity have the right to complain about any other species given how we treat them and each other.

ETA except mosquitoes. They're proper twats.

You know what, I agree. I think it’s dog owners I don’t like. Not dogs.

Ageeed however there is a balance and I don’t think running for the hills at the mere glimpse of a dog and insisting that everywhere be dog free is the answer.

Definitely didn't say it was!! I love dogs. I've been working on CBT with my son. Not sure where I said I was running for the hills? I literally said I love dogs and that the issue comes when some owners think that it's ok for us to have to step over their dogs on the train.

Entitled dog owners. I’ve nothing against dogs. It’s the people that own them and don’t take responsibility for them and just assume they can take a dog everywhere they go and get offended when they are asked to not bring their dog in. I also have friends and family who are dog owners and don’t feel the need to take them to restaurants or cafes and if they are out anywhere shopping they leave them
outside or if not possible then ask
first before just assuming.

It’s common courtesy to ask first before you assume you can bring a dog in though. Some people are frightened of dogs. My family and friends have dogs and either ask first or don’t bring their dog out.
Peoples manners seems to have gone out the window.

Onleemoi · 20/04/2025 16:26

Ask the owner of the premises or ask everyone in there? Of course I ask the owner if ive not been before but that’s it.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 20/04/2025 16:27

I saw a massive dog being walked round Wickes yesterday, and my instinct was to look towards the staff as I thought surely it shouldn't be in here. Then I remembered that dogs are now allowed pretty much everywhere!

Ask the staff or owner… I don’t mean everyone in the place

Shouldn’t be allowed but I’ve a feeling people are now afraid to confront dog owners because of the abuse they get so they just say nothing

No she’s simply pointing out dogs shouldn’t be roaming round cafes and neither should children. I’ve seen none of the former doing this but loads of the latter and it’s bloody annoying.
