Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

I’m sorry about that, it shouldn’t be. I’d never let my dog go near anyone that wasn’t comfortable around him. I’d also not take him into a pub/etc where no other dogs were allowed/already in and if I did he wouldn’t be sniffing around other peoples tables!

I appreciate that. I appreciate that not all owners act irresponsibly. But SO many do. I have poor experiences with dogs / dog owners at least every week. I'm sorry if you get tarred with the same brush as them.

surreygirl1987 · 19/04/2025 23:10

Of ffs. You really think my 6 month old baby was attacked by a dog off a lead in a playground because it sensed that either I or my baby didn't like dogs??!

Or that, while sitting on a bench facing the other way, not even knowing there was a dog anywhere around, a dog came and pawed at my back purely because it somehow sensed that I don't like dogs? Don't be so idiotic.

And I think it's fair to justify my dislike of dogs being around me and my children in cafes etc by referring to the traumatic experience where my 6 month old baby was attacked by a dog. To quote you .. can't you see that?

mrpenny · 19/04/2025 23:05

ah yes, dogs sense when people dislike them.. Try telling surreygirl with her baby in a pram being attacked. Ah, yes, dear doggy must have sensed baby didn’t like him

Apparently so! We were in a playground as well. And the owner was shocked that her precious dog would do such a thing. 🙄 There's always a first time.

Well, see, I have a phobia of other people's children so maybe they shouldn't be out.

Ironically there are loads of child-free places. I often see dogs allowed into places which children are not allowed into. If only there were such clearly demarcated dog-free places...

GoodLaudanum · 19/04/2025 22:45

It would be great if cafe's / restaurants / pubs could at least be divided into dog and non-dog areas. Like they used to be for smokers.

Some are. Coffee #1 have a separate dog area.

My DC has an awful dog allergy. Cats aren’t great too. We are finding it harder and harder to go to any pub or restaurant, particularly by the sea, without animals nearby or fur and dander in the air. They take extra strong prescribed antihistamines, sometimes two varieties at once. Still often come out in hives. I would welcome a few places that are dog free that we could go to. We now try to sit outside, and don’t go out in bad weather.

I'm so sorry to hear that. That's so unfair.

I’m talking about the £800 nonsense. We managed to have a meal under 20 quid before dogs were allowed in. Bizarre moment. It doesn’t matter which town I live in. The supporters of no dogs in restaurants and other places will doubtless agree that it’s a similar situation where they live.

obviously that’s exaggeration! Dogs have always been let in to certain places. What establishments are you taking about? Pubs? I don’t now of any curry house, steak house, restaurant, or Chinese for example that have ever had dogs allowed where I’ve lived. Under 20 quid for a meal? Lucky you, take the odd dog and crack on

Blinky21 · 19/04/2025 23:16

I went in a cafe recently, it was a rainy day and absolutely stank because of all the wet dogs, someone in there also had a ferret on a lead. I feel sorry for dogs I see in loud pubs and restaurants having to sit under the table, they must be so bored

If my dog is in a cafe with me, she has had a walk so has a snooze under the table. And even then she gets fuss and treats. She loves it.

Or people could stop taking animals to people places.

There are lots of restaurants that don’t allow dogs and just a few who do. Why not just go to the restaurants that don’t allow dogs?

Oh, I absolutely give up 😩 you really really can’t see that dog attacks and dogs using cafes two completely separate topics here. I’ll leave you to it……

This is horrible and I hate dog owners that are like this. A bit off topic but I also hate dog owners that think every one including other dog owners should like their dog or that my dog should like their dog. Mine is terrified of other dogs. Why can’t people just think of other people’s feelings? 😩

Nope, they are linked because twats own dogs and take them everywhere whenever they want. It’s not the dogs, it’s the owners

Crazyworldmum · 19/04/2025 23:26

Because they can and they do no harm ? I don’t see why people have to moan bout everything these days . They are not at your table

steff13 · 19/04/2025 23:30

This sounds like a "vote with your wallet" situation. Allowing dogs is a business strategy; I'm sure in doing so the business owners recognized that they would lose some customers. B

At the end of the day. I think we should all agree that dog owners should respect people that don’t want to be near dogs (whether they like them or not) and dogs should kept away from them. Separate the areas in places that we eat, maybe dogs only outside in certain places. I wouldn’t take my dog out on night out to eat anyway, but that’s just me. On an afternoon walk I think it’s ok as long I respect others and keep him away from people that don’t want to be near him. It’s just common decency 👍

How do you notice people who do not want to be around dogs?
I mean, there has been lots of people on this thread who say they silently hate dogs, but would never say anything.

I make it pretty clear like saying 'can you please get your dog away from me/ my child'... sadly dog owners rarely listen, or say 'it's okay, he's friendly' 🤦🏼‍♀️
