Nope. She has alienated herself because she insists on bringing her horrible yappy little dog everywhere, even when we've told her we don't want it out with us or in our house. She had a choice.

To be honest, I am not fan of little yappy dogs either.

Agree there was a dog when we got on a bus a few weeks ago. We were on the top deck only the second stop of a nearly 2 hour route so had only got on the stop before us. A dog right at the front had pissed. Okay take them on the bus but at least make sure they've been to the toilet.

Ewwww.

... are you saying people's experiences are 'fake'?

My baby boy was attacked in his pram by a dog in a playground at 6 months old while sitting in his pram and I had to wrestle the thing off him. Is that 'fakery' too...?

Nope. Only just heard your story. My examples were clearly not relating to dog attacks. They were relating to the amount of posts (a lot!) which indicate dogs are in cafes wandering around off lead, pee’ing up against table legs, peoples shopping bags, their legs, their children. Not saying it never happens, but certainly not the frequency indicated by MNetters on these posts.

Ladysukijuno · 19/04/2025 22:29

I was at arrivals in Heathrow on Wednesday and a woman walked in with her dog who proceeded to wee on the floor. The owner saw exactly what happened and walked on. She did pick the dog up probably to stop it from happening again. I couldn't believe what I'd seen.

I haven’t rtwt however I just want to say that I have a little dog. She’s super well behaved and trained - I get comments wherever I go about this. She sleeps by my side when we are at restaurants and pubs, she allows children to stroke her and she follows several commands. She is my support- not officially but my life has been enriched since having her. I’ve struggled with mental health (eating disorders and anxiety) and in the time I’ve had her I’ve thrived. When I find a place that is dog friendly that’s where I’ll go because I can bring my dog (my daughter in my eyes). I will only leave her at home when I absolutely need to, for example if I’m going to the theatre or to a place that doesn’t allow dogs. But if she’s allowed, she’s coming. And she’s so well behaved that I don’t see the problem? She also non shedding so no allergy issues. Although if the dog does shed id still be fine with it if he was friendly and well trained. My dog is so well behaved that she comes with me to school part time where I teach. And she’s a calming presence, the children read to her. She just listens.

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants that aren’t dog friendly. If I hated dogs as much as you seem to then I would just go to those rather than get myself in such a tizz that I felt the need to rant online about it.

Good for you. ..but why should we?

Because the business owner has deemed it so, and it's their livelihood at stake not yours?

surreygirl1987 · 19/04/2025 22:19

I know. My own (weird) cousin is like that. Incredibly sad. And she wonders why she's lost contact with most of her family members...

I agree, but it’s how some people feel.

Gyh863 · 19/04/2025 22:33

Totally agree. Far too many dogs, in far too many places. Dog shit everywhere.

mrpenny · 19/04/2025 22:31

I assume because it makes them the most money. Would you pay them extra to have no pets and just you there?

Nelly91 · 19/04/2025 22:35

I have terrible allergies to dogs more so cats but appreciate the joy they bring to humans! I would usually avoid an animal friendly cafe because of my allergies so surely if OP you don’t want dogs around you just do the same as me!

But I won’t go if there’s a dog there so they are going to miss out in some way…probably more if the poll is anything to go by….🙄

I would pay extra for all the dog haters to be in their own vacuous bubble, where they can compare their own snorts, wheezes and farts.

I definitely would. Sick to death of stinking slabbering dogs under tables and sniffing at my bags and feet wherever I go. Can’t stand them

Yeh I agree with this. We've had to dodge dog poo on every single walk we've been on in the past week since the Easter holidays started, including walking along pavement with a bike today. It really is disgusting.

Urgh. If my son's school had a dog in it I'd definitely complain. And I know at least 3 other mothers in my son's class (of 13 - it's a private school) who would as well. This would just not be allowed. In fact, there are signs around the edge of the school grounds stating 'no dogs allowed'.

Well some must not be botheted by it, to allow their dogs to do it and not clear it up!

Frequency · 19/04/2025 22:42

If I owned a cafe or bar, I'd probably target dog owners too. They are the ones who are out and about in the fine British weather we usually have, and in the age of online shopping and WFH, they tend to be the majority of foot traffic these days.

I don't frequent cafes often. I love coffee, but I can make it at home for a fraction of the price. But if I'm out with the dog and pass a nice-smelling coffee shop when I'm cold and wet and I happen to have some cash in my pocket, I'll call in. I assume a lot of other dog walkers do the same, otherwise businesses wouldn't target them as customers.

Ditto local grocery shops. If I'm out with the dog and pass a shop that allows him inside and I need a pint of milk, I'll go into that shop instead of going home, dropping off the do,g and then going back out to another shop for milk.

Ok then. I’ll open a place just for you. Possibly cost you about £800 quid for a meal if no one else is coming in. Also, where on earth do you go where slabbering dogs are under your table? Oh, that’s right - no where. Unless you live in a complete shit hole of an area, or some complete idiots live near you.

Then they are knobs. I always clean up after my dog.
If she needs a poo, she stops and I can feel that on her lead. I don't get how anyone can not notice an on-lead dog taking a shite. You are right though... some people just don't care.
