I bet that's not true. Particularly as you (like @OonaStubbs ) clearly loathe dogs.

Don’t loathe dogs in least. Just don’t Anthropomorphize them or take them to restaurants and retail

I've not visited a Cat Cafe yet, I keep meaning to.

And dogs should definitely be banned from Cat Cafes imagine the furore if dogs went in there😂

FURore. You're mad you! 😂

I wanna go in a cat cafe! 🐈

I don't know anyone who does.

I was in a public toilet last week and someone brought their dog in. It did feel weird

Mum2jenny · 19/04/2025 21:24

SunnySideDeepDown · 19/04/2025 21:10

Not as disgusting as a dog that licks his arse and eats poo. Unless you do that?!

If you don’t think sharing plates and cutlery with dogs is gross, then your standards are too low.

i expect most establishments use a dishwasher, so a dog licking a plate is irrelevant

What else could they do with them? It is not safe to leave dogs tied up outside.
I have taken my dog into the loo with me. It is ok, she is not a voyeur.

There are some accommodations in Cornwall that are not dog friendly. And some restaurants.

We go annually. With our dog. We choose the dog friendly places, strangely.

I didn't pay much attention to be honest. I didn't realise that a dog friendly place meant that nearly everyone there would have a dog - and that they would be having breakfast with us.

Most shops and stores (and eateries) don't allow dogs in. (Apart from assistance dogs obvs.)

I find it really hard to believe that some people are seeing multiple dogs in most shops and eateries they go in! Where on earth do these people live? Confused

Edited

I live in Edinburgh, the whole city is now infested with dogs. It is impossible to walk along the main street in trendy Stockbridge without tripping over dogs and the vast majority of the many cafes allow dogs. As a result I can't go into most as I am quite severely allergic. The new upmarket St James shopping centre allows dogs in all stores, though they seem most prevalent in Space NK and John Lewis.

Some places stipulate that dogs can not be left alone in the rooms.

Those of you comparing dogs with children, wtf? I realise there are many many poorly behaved kids and useless parents, but FFS...

Yes! All this talk of dogs, and someone finally pays the tax.

Here is mine in our local dog friendly cafe.

If you really have issues either dogs or no dogs, check their website. It really is that simple.
I love dogs and have a small one, we go to dog friendly establishments, if you don’t have a dog and hate them, go to a location that bans dogs. It’s that easy.
Just research your location, and don’t whinge when you fuck it up!!

I don't think people hate dogs - I think it just become a bit crazy just how many dogs are in restaurants nowadays.
10 years ago there would be the odd dog - now every other table has one.

Didn't ever think I'd need to search out special places that did not host dogs in order to not be surrounded by them.

I honestly don't mind the odd pooch. Bit it's an epidemic out there!

Doggy prams are typically used for dogs recovering from injury/surgery or are used for older dogs that can't walk as far as they used to.
Doggy prams are mobility aids in essence. Is sad to say they are ridiculous.

If you don't want to have coffee next to a dog then don't go somewhere that allows dogs.

I get you are fond of your dog but I cannot understand how you can not see why others are not.

I don't care that other people are not fond of my dog. That is their right.
However, telling me to not take my dog to places where she is welcome is just really entitled behaviour.
It would be like me going to soft play and moaning it is full of kids.

I'd rather a cafe or restaurant full of dogs over people 😁

I've even seen dogs on Princes Street at the height of the Festival - complete madness.

100PercentFaithful · 19/04/2025 21:34

I agree. It’s unhygienic, it’s intimidating for those who don’t like dogs.
We were sat in a cafe having a coffee and a dog came in a jumped straight up at my daughter who was just sitting drinking a juice. It scratched her leg. I told the owner to get it off her and the owner just simpered, “Oh, don’t you like dogs then”. No apologies- just the implication that we’re unreasonable not to enjoy having a dog jump up at us.
Makes my blood boil.

consistentlyinconsistent · 19/04/2025 21:36

Agreed. I don't like dogs (don't wish any harm upon them obviously) and sick of seeing them EVERYWHERE now. Luckily I live in a city and not many cafes are dog friendly. Perfect!

It is a dog on the floor. Are you eating your dinner off the floor too?

Ishoulddomore · 19/04/2025 21:37

Don’t go to an establishment that allows pets. Pretty simple really.

Ghosttofu99 · 19/04/2025 21:38

Businesses need to survive, we have a dog, if we go for evening meal or specifically shopping, she’s left at home, if we’ve taken her for morning walk and fancy a coffee or breakfast we take her in, if nice we will always choose to be outside. We can only do this if they allow dogs otherwise we would come home and have coffee/breakfast.

More people don’t have dogs though so if businesses want to survive they might not want to put off non-dog owners. Dog friendly cafes should be an option like a vegan cafe or a cat cafe not a norm that you can’t avoid. (Except service dogs)

I had a really odd experience the other day where my three year old was running through the park singing and a small dog we hadn’t noticed that was under a bench started kicking off barking and growling. (On its lead) DD was a bit worried but I reassured her and just moved on. The owner caught up to us a few minutes later and lifted the dog up and started a strange passive aggressive diatribe about how the dog shouldn’t worry about the child shouting at them. (My 3 year old DD absolutely did not shout at his dog) I ignored it, particularly because it was so bizarre. I’m just a bit sick of situations with poorly trained dogs where I’m the one who should be annoyed but the dog owner values their dog more than my child so we have to constantly suffer the poor attitude of what is essentially antisocial behaviour especially in parks where dog owners feel they have more right to used what is a shared space.

WibbleyPie · 19/04/2025 21:38

I work in a dog friendly place and it's a nice expensive place separate areas for dogs completely.

We could have filled our dog space at least twice over today. That's what businesses are catering to and if it's an area it works, they'd be mad not to, especially hospitality because it's on its arse right now.

And tbh I've definitely cleaned up more human bodily functions and mess than I have dogs. It does happen but people making a disgusting mess and walking off leaving other people to deal with it is far more common in my experience.
