Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

So go to ones where dogs aren’t allowed, it’s not hard.

Your toddler should not be close enough to my dog to drop anything she could reach. Unless you are letting your toddler wander about?

If someone is bothered by a dog asleep under a table, then that is a problem they have, not me. By bothering, I meant going up to people etc.

There aren’t any rules to stop toddlers wandering about. I guess because she can, she should.

But what will they complain about then? 😆

It’s actually getting harder and harder now.

GoodLaudanum · 19/04/2025 21:02

I went to Cornwall for a few days last year.

Dogs everywhere!

Our B&B had 3 dogs in the breakfast room (3 dogs, 5 tables) and every time a dog came in they all started loudly snuffling and fussing around and sniffing each others arses while we tried to eat breakfast.

Won't be going to Cornwall again.

Loreli1983 · 19/04/2025 21:02

Agree. Some of the first questions I see on social media posts when a new cafe/restaurant is opening are asking if dogs are allowed? I don't understand why anyone thinks it's a great enriching day out for their dog?! I had a dog for 14 years when I was growing up. Never once recall her taking her into a food establishment. She went on woodland walks/coastal walks for miles and miles. Maybe she was just fortunate to have been rescued by an outdoorsy family...

You don’t have a Wetherspoons near you? 😢

Nope. Live in a village.

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/04/2025 21:04

Wetherspoon? No
I’ll ask the gardener where they drink when not on duty

Mum2jenny · 19/04/2025 21:04

If you really have issues either dogs or no dogs, check their website. It really is that simple.
I love dogs and have a small one, we go to dog friendly establishments, if you don’t have a dog and hate them, go to a location that bans dogs. It’s that easy.
Just research your location, and don’t whinge when you fuck it up!!

coldcallerbaiter · 19/04/2025 21:06

Dog owners bring them in to shops and cafes whether there is a dog friendly sign or not, knowing staff will let it slide rather than have a confrontation. I often see them coming in where there is no mention of them being allowed. They stink, bark, shit, piss…

Been away a few times to countries where there are not many dogs and certainly not allowed in to premises, it’s sooo nice. Less shit on the street too.

And no, they are not akin to children. They are just animals like a goat or pig. Heck, they eat them in some countries…

Illgotothefootofourstairs · 19/04/2025 21:06

We ate in a dog friendly cafe earlier this week. The couple at a nearby table put their plates on the floor for their dog to lick 🤢

ACynicalDad · 19/04/2025 21:07

YeOldeGreyhound · 19/04/2025 20:55

Snort, wheeze and fart? Ha, go in a Wetherspoons. You will get the exact same experience except it will be the people.

I reckon Weatherspoons ban dogs as their average customer probably doesn't have a doodle. If you are a place where the average customer has a retreiver/lab/spaniel/doodle then letting dogs in is a very different proposition.

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/04/2025 21:07

Not all establishments make it evident if they indulge the pooch posse
Cotswolds every gaff we went to had farting, snuffling dogs.unfortunately it’s not always possible to avoid dogs in retail and restaurants

Lampzade · 19/04/2025 21:08

Dogs should not be allowed in food establishments , unless they are service dogs.
That is my honest opinion
I do not go to dog ‘friendly ‘ establishments .

Frenzi · 19/04/2025 21:08

We have always had dogs. They go to the local pub - that doesnt serve food in the main bar area and he lies in his spot out of the way.

If we go to a cafe and have the dog, we sit outside. I dont want to be eating a meal and have a dog staring at me so I therefore keep my dog out of places that are food orientated.

However, I would rather have a dog staring at me as I eat than bratty kids who have no idea how to behave in a public place!

Katypp · 19/04/2025 21:08

RealityContinuesToRuinMyLife · 19/04/2025 18:14

Agree.
We’ve been dog owners for years and never felt the need to take our dogs everywhere with us.
Ive seen people drive their dogs to the retail park just so they can take them in to Pets at home, and then the idiot owners stand there whilst the poor NMW workers clean up their dog shit.

The last time I read a thread on this topic, a dog had crapped in the cafe where a pp had ordered lunch. Disgusting.

Just leave your fucking dogs at home or sit at an outside table!

I refuse to eat at places that have dogs inside now, I don’t want some pooch chasing it’s puppuccino cup around my feet on it’s stupid extendable lead whilst it tries to lick the last of the froth out, with it’s idiot owner giving me a simpering smile.

I agree, it's madness.
Doggy prams and even more ridiculous, doggy slings are my particular pet hates.
I don't want to have my coffee on a table next to a dog - is that really so unreasonable?

The plates get cleaned though. The cutlery you use will have been in someone else's mouth... and human mouths are disgusting.

Mine would rather be with me, walked miles in the country the other day, but if I go to the pub or a café he'd rather be at my feet than left with other family members or alone.

LilyJosephine · 19/04/2025 21:09

There are still plenty of eating places that don’t allow dogs? In fact near me, I reckon it’s about a 70:30 split with most places not allowing dogs inside -only outside if there are tables. The only places that reliably let dogs inside are many pubs (but generally “bar only” so there’s still usually a restaurant eating area for dog avoiders ) and smaller independent cafes often near popular walking areas. These types of places would massively lose trade if they didn’t do this, so YABU to expect them to do so.

But even when I didn’t have dogs myself, I still nearly always choose to eat at pubs/cafes that did allow dogs (or a had a pub/cafe resident cat) - as statistically like many people I find the presence of animals calming/uplifting and so obviously prefer to support those establishments. Horses for courses (pun intended 🤣)

Not as disgusting as a dog that licks his arse and eats poo. Unless you do that?!

If you don’t think sharing plates and cutlery with dogs is gross, then your standards are too low.

By that logic, get the pigeons and hedgehog to eat food detritus from plates too
After all the plates and cutlery get washed?

Doggy prams are typically used for dogs recovering from injury/surgery or are used for older dogs that can't walk as far as they used to.
Doggy prams are mobility aids in essence. Is sad to say they are ridiculous.

If you don't want to have coffee next to a dog then don't go somewhere that allows dogs.

Yes, it does happen anyway if you eat outside. I have seen birds pick at leftovers in cafe gardens.
