Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

Your toddler should not be close enough to my dog to drop anything she could reach. Unless you are letting your toddler wander about?

If someone is bothered by a dog asleep under a table, then that is a problem they have, not me. By bothering, I meant going up to people etc.

It’s almost as if cafe tables aren’t set closely together … oh wait.

🤔how many strikes do you get before MN deletes the thread.

Loloj · 19/04/2025 20:34

Yes there must be 100’s of threads already on this subject.

It’s up to the business if they allow dogs or not. Clearly the ones that allow dogs see it as good business sense.

If you don’t like eating in places that allow dogs then vote with your feet and don’t eat there - there are still plenty of places that don’t allow them.

I like the fact that I can take my dog to a lot of places - she’s not good on her own for any length of time so we do take her with us whenever we go out for longer than a few hours. We wouldn’t take her to a shopping centre though - I don’t know any shopping centres in my area that allow dogs and I agree not much fun for the dog.

That must be very difficult for you.

However, you must be aware that absolutely anywhere you go could have assistance dogs in it, and they could cause an allergic reaction or trigger someone with a phobia. There is case law which prioritises the needs of a disabled person requiring an assistance animal above the needs of someone with an allergy or phobia.

Trains and buses will be full of animal dander, and every single airplane you have ever been on will have had sniffer dogs running all over it.

Assistance dogs are necessary and needed. Pet dogs everywhere are not.

I don't fly at all.

Public transport I use rarely and have always known there will be likely be dogs on there as they have always been allowed on buses etc so I would take an antihistamine beforehand.

10 years ago or so you could factor in these things easily into your day, but now having dogs in most places makes it very difficult for those with allergies and phobias and recently it has felt overwhelming. Especially Especially this attitude of "if you don't like it, stay at home". Thanks, we do now, yes.

Picoloangel · 19/04/2025 20:35

Most of the dogs I see out and about look utterly bored and miserable. This is about the owners not the dogs. We have dogs and, no, they don’t what a quick trip to a cafe and a quick gander in Oliver Bonas. They want a lovely walk somewhere nice and a snooze and a cuddle before their next walk.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2025 20:37

I'd rather dogs than kids being allowed to run around and bother other people. Just because the parents don't talk to them doesn't mean I want to.

PluckyBamboo · 19/04/2025 20:37

There was a dog barking it's head off in my local Tesco today, sounded like it was coming from the cafe at the back of the store. Definitely not a well behaved Guide dog either, sounded pretty agressive.

Yawn. Just comment on one of the other threads moaning about this.

This.
So bored of people making this thread.

Agree. Assistance dogs - yup. Dogs,no
Expect the doggy woggy fur parents to rise up in ire protesting that their bad breath pampered pooch is family. Their emotional crutch. Blah Blah, dogs shouldn’t be in restaurant ,cafes. Tie it up outside or don’t bring it in. End of

If they are allowed, then they are doing nothing wrong. End of.

Then go to those places. It really is that simple. No need to dictate how other businesses should run. Feel free to start up your own dog free one.

If many places don’t allow dogs then what’s the issue? People who don’t want dogs in cages etc can just go to those places…

Well it’s almost like all the dog haters have got all riled up and frothing over nothing.

OH, wait…😂

I wonder if I could persuade some of these cafes to let me take my cat in. He'd love a cattuccino. He's very clean, he washes himself all the time and doesn't try to steal food. He probably wouldn't stay at my feet though, he'd like to climb all over the tables, he's also shedding his winter coat but that won't be a problem will it, I mean I can't leave him at home all the time now can I and he is a part of my personality

However some establishments indulge dopey and entitled fur parents or the fur parent is entitled and takes the dog into a cafe, restaurant. So the dogs snort, wheeze and fart in food establishments whilst other patrons have to put up with it. We unfortunately have not established a pattern of resistance against digs in retail and restaurants . Hopefully habitually declining dogs will gain traction and the entitled dog owners will tie the dog up outside

EffinMagicFairy · 19/04/2025 20:54

Goldusty · 19/04/2025 20:18

Really!? Well if I saw you with your darling pooch in the eatery I would actively choose to take my business elsewhere, so how is this this helping businesses survive? Presumably your pooch doesn't have it's own pooch purse to purchase a puppicino?!

My dog doesn’t need to be catered for, has no fashion accessories, just needs a quiet space to sit. Tell me, where you do you see these posh dogs with purses?

TeaIsNice · 19/04/2025 20:54

Had a lovely lunch today - my dog sat under the table doing bugger all. We then sat in a large Starbucks at our train station with a coffee and then caught the bus home. Would I do that if he didn't behave - no.

We have at least one cat cafe in Brighton.

I definitely think the Cat Cafes should ban dogs though 😂

It's not entitled to take your dog somewhere the dog is allowed.

Your issue is with the establishments allowing dogs when you don't want them there. Not people simply doing something the establishment allows.

Snort, wheeze and fart? Ha, go in a Wetherspoons. You will get the exact same experience except it will be the people.

Talapia · 19/04/2025 20:57

Dogs were allowed in many places 17 years ago when we go our first dog. There were, and still are many places where dogs are not allowed.

However, when speaking to various business owners, the reason many are now dog friendly when they may not have been previously is the lack of footfall in shops/cafes since covid. People online shop more frequently, COL crisis, this means cafes/shops need to reach out to a wider client base to survive.

I expect so. Hence I don’t frequent Wetherspoon

They don't allow dogs though, so that ticks at least one box.
