Says who? I know plenty of gender non confirming trans people. Don’t know any trans people in real life??

This is a rather baffling statement. How is such gender non-conformism manifested by trans people?

A feminist trans man who dresses effeminately and enjoys crafts and aromatherapy. This is no confirming for a man and not based on stereotypes.

A trans woman who wears no make up, always in trousers, lesbian.

These people are both trans but have not based their identities on gender stereotypes because they are real and intelligent people who know they are trans and are individuals .

Neither of those are very common though. By and large the identities are based or manifested in line with stereotypes, with a back story that is usually along the lines of 'didn't play with the socially mandated toys for their sex'.

Kucinghitam · 23/04/2025 08:41

These are just examples of people, with personalities. Everybody has a personality.

Single-sex spaces such as sports, changing rooms and prisons are single-sex, not single-personality.

The very fact that you believe aromatherapy or make-up are required for gender conformity demonstrates that you adhere to sex stereotypes.

You don’t know any trans people. If you are looking at celebrities for examples, then see also the gender stereotypes perpetuated by non-trans famous men and women!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2025 08:49

A feminist “trans man” who enjoys crafts and aromatherapy is simply a woman who believes in women’s rights and enjoys crafts and aromatherapy but for whatever reason identifies as a “man”.

My favourite part of the judgment was the recognition that lesbians are attracted to other biological women, not to males with a certificate.

The idea that lesbians can either have or be attracted to penises is homophobic.

I do, in fact, know trans people. Every one of them adopts the stereotypical appearance of the opposite sex.

Kucinghitam · 23/04/2025 09:03

Bottom line: We don't segregate sports, prisons, changing rooms, refuges, etc on the basis of personality.

And they still haven't changed sex, and they are still covered by the PC of gender reassignment. And strangely all teaching material in schools that relates to gender identity in schools relies on sexist stereotypes.

However (as has already been pointed out on this thread), 'trans' is a very wide definition and includes anyone who identifies as trans, whether they are a girl who rejects female puberty because she fears sexual abuse or a man who rocks up on the day of his rape trial claiming to be a woman.

You are never going to be able to argue that it is possible to change sex, but if you genuinely care about trans people (Have YOU met any?) you would acknowledge that turning a blind eye to the harm done by arguments made by activist organisations like Stonewall - 'Trans women are women' and a trans identity is purely a matter of self ID - harm everyone.

You can only defend rights if you base your arguments in material reality. It's amazing that this truism has to be defended.

aylis · 23/04/2025 09:05

And ALL the 'trans men' I know and have worked with are young same-sex attracted women.

Onetimeonlyftw · 23/04/2025 09:01

That’s not meaningful to me. The person is a woman, and she has a personality. Her identity is personal, and up to her. But I don’t share that worldview.

RSE teaching materials do not all teach about gender identity through stereotypes.

I have seen secondary materials that clearly state, “Not confirming to gender stereotypes is not the same as being trans.”

I know about 8 trans people personally because I hang out and work in trans-welcoming spaces.

Yes.

The reason is, they’re trans.

They could also be Christian and believe in an immortal soul and have a strong sense that Jesus has saved them.

Their belief would also be protected, and nobody else would be under any obligation to affirm their belief.

Kucinghitam · 23/04/2025 09:12

People can have whatever personality, hobbies and fashion sense they want. We don't segregate refuges, sports, changing rooms, prisons and rape crisis centres on the basis of personality.

aylis · 23/04/2025 09:13

They're not saying their sex is based on those stereotypes though.

I accept there is pressure on trans people to adhere to opposite sex stereotypes to give the impression of legitimacy. But they're just after trying to affirm in law that those stereotypes are the basis of sex protections. It's incoherent and regressive. Those stereotypes are the foundational principles of trans activism.

It's easier to add a disclaimer “Not confirming to gender stereotypes is not the same as being trans.”, but it's meaningless if the rest of the material is firmly embedded in stereotypes.

"I know about 8 trans people personally because I hang out and work in trans-welcoming spaces."

I suspect many people on this board know a similar number or more (how many people can you really know?) because they have trans children.

'Trans widows' - women whose husbands have claimed a trans identity late in life - might know less, because they don't tend to be so associated with queer community. However, I am sure they have a more in depth knowledge of the issues being discussed.

The gaps in your knowledge surrounding the Tavistock, and your lack of understanding of the wider issues suggest you haven't been thinking about this issue for very long. Again, I think if you really cared about trans people, you would be a bit more willing to acknowledge the flaws in gender ideology and harms that have been done.

Kucinghitam · 23/04/2025 09:22

The gaps in your knowledge surrounding the Tavistock

That is being very generous of you. I'm more inclined to consider the lie about why the Tavistock was closed to be a Pious Fraud. Goes with the overall Gish Gallop strategy.

I prefer to assume good faith, but the lack of engagement with harms done to children referred to the Tavistock is striking.
