Just as the title says….i know it’s not a big deal but someone please tell me he’ll start branching out! He loves being comfy, not ND in any way really. COULD Have ADHD but that’s a whole other thread.
He’ll wear his school trousers but they are soft too…the two/three times he’s been required to look smart I’ve managed to bribe him to wear chinos, but the minute it was no longer a requirement he changes back into his joggers. I literally have to stick with the same colours of navy and black because they’re the only colours that look somewhat smart. Tell me he’ll grow out of this PLEASE 😅

Others clearly disagree with you.

You seem almost bemused by the idea that other people have different tastes and opinions, it’s quite fascinating 🤣

But some things are objectively horrible!

I suppose if I gave you a handful of gold and a handful of dirt, you'd go on about how edgy and wonderful the dirt was and how boring the gold was!!!

faerietales · 20/04/2025 16:33

No, you're confusing your own opinion with fact again.

It's honestly quite fascinating - I didn't know people like you actually existed!

ThisFluentBiscuit · 20/04/2025 16:35

I love this jacket, jeans, and hat. I know the boots look a bit welly-like. If this outfit was real, I'd have them better-fitting round the calf and with a heel.

And yes, I know this is a doll, before you think I've gone mad. I am LOVING the pink velvet jacket. I dress my doll collection how I'd like to dress, since I'm too fat to dress how I would like to! (N.B. NONE of my dolls are allowed to wear athletic wear!)

Depends how you style it. I think this woman look incredibly cool. not formal and uncomfortable. Ignore the pink stilettos - I wouldn't wear those.

I'm 29 and this type of look was still strong when I was 18 or so 10+ years ago. Its not necessarily that it doesn't look put together at all, and if you like it of course wear it! It's just a dated look with younger people now.

Peplum tops were very flattering all those years ago, and I hear they might be coming back! As you said the style I like was popular in the 90s - fashion is cyclical. Block heels used to be the thing, now they aren't.

I can't stand those Birkenstocks, but they seem to be a "thing" the past few years. To me, they remind me of my grandma!

We do!!!! But most of us keep our mouths shut in real life about how awful so many people look. My great-aunt had a saying. "Never looked in a mirror!" 😂

When people say how much they love something objectively awful, like a grey tracksuit, I always think they must be joking, to see if anyone will actually turn round and say "God, that looks awful! Haven't you got anything better?" 🤣

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 20/04/2025 16:38

My preteen DS hates jeans and would happily wear shorts all the time, even when it's freezing outside! He will now wear joggers and combat-style trousers. I'm not forcing him into clothes he won't wear.

faerietales · 20/04/2025 16:40

So you think it's just opinion that a handful of gold is more beautiful than a handful of dirt?

Yes, that's why people come from all over to see piles of dirt in museums!! That's why jewellery and wedding rings are made of impacted dirt, not gold! 🤣

LMFAO! Yeah, at my weight, that's about right!

I am quite judgy about low standards. 🤭 Swearing, drinking, no-effort appearances, rudeness, lack of manners - all go into the mental 👀👀👀box!

ThisFluentBiscuit · 20/04/2025 16:47

I don't mind children being surgically attached to their tracksuits. I was a bit scruffy at that age too, until post-uni. Young people don't know their arse from their elbow, generally, so they can be forgiven!

If they haven't smartened up by age 30, you can always move away and not tell them. 🤭🤭🤭

He's just a kid, though. He probably won't be wearing joggers to work or on a date with the potential partner of his dreams when he's thirty!

I prefer silver or even titanium jewellery to gold! But I must be wrong! This is just what makes life. People, being different. You could give me a gold ring that cost you ££££ and a titanium one you got for ££. I'm not going to prefer the gold just because it's gold.

All right, swap the handful of gold for a handful of silver! It's the principle of people pretending that objectively horrible things are just so wonderful!

Gettingbysomehow · 20/04/2025 16:54

So do I, so does DS, so does DiL. None of us have ADHD. We dress up when work or the occasion calls for it but at home we like to be comfortable.
We don't go out in pyjamas or have any children called Spudulika.
Jeans joggers are the best and I can dress them up with a blazer if I need to go out.

But again! You probably find some people attractive that I absolutely don't. I was discussing this with a friend last night - she balked at the men I chose and I did the same at hers. You don't seem able to accept that what you find distasteful or horrible or unappealing, other people love.

It’s fascinating isn’t it?

There are loads of things in this world I don’t like or “get” but I’d never be so arrogant as to assume my way was the only way and everyone else is just cheap or stupid or lazy 😬

catgirl1976 · 20/04/2025 17:01

Had this with DS

Manages eventually (at 13) to wean him into Jean joggers. All the comfort but smarter and then he moved into jeans and chinos etc

Jean joggers are your friend. M and S does good ones

But unless you're ill or impoverished, why WOULD you wear a grey tracksuit outside doing sports, when you could wear some really nice clothes??

I don't think they're cheap or stupid or lazy, if they wear down-and-out clothes but are not ill or impoverished or doing sports. Those are your words, not mine. I just think they're style-blind, like many people.

Edited

Because I don’t give a shit what other people think about my clothes? If I find something comfy, I’m going to wear it.

I’m also autistic and have major sensory issues around clothes 🤷‍♀️

But again, there are objective standards. Otherwise we wouldn't have gorgeous movie stars, would we, and we'd all be models. Even babies stare longer at attractive faces than they do ugly ones.

You can pretend that ugly clothes are lovely as much as you want, but it doesn't make it true.

But you wouldn’t know I was autistic looking at me - so you’d still be busy sneering at me.

Not a very pleasant way to behave.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 20/04/2025 17:17

Every thread that involves opinions turns like this.

Children's naked bums in public - "It's just a bum." True quote from that thread.
The C word is absolutely fine.
There's no difference between grey tracksuits and nicer clothes.

There's a lot of disingenuity on these threads.
