To wish people would STOP QUOTING THE OP!!!

There is absolutely no point in quoting the OP. We've all read the OP already. All you're doing is wasting everyone's time by making us scroll past it to read the rest of the thread. I have no idea why so many people do it but it is completely unnecessary so please could anyone who does this stop. This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.

What if we’re directly replying to the OP? Because as thread ls grow it can be confusing as to whether or not we are or responding to some handbags that have happened further down the line?
also - who made YOU queen for the day???? Eh????

It isn't immediately makes me think the poster is a bit dim when they quote a long opening OP.

It makes me think the person getting worked up about something so trivial is a bit dim. Imagine getting so annoyed about something that has such a tiny impact on life.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/04/2025 08:12

Have you never been irritated by a small thing @BrilliantBrilliant ? Well done you!

Hear, hear

User5274959 · 17/04/2025 08:13

Anyway @BrilliantBrilliant who said I was getting worked up about it? That's just the impression it gives me. That they're thoughtless. And dim.

I think there is a point. By the time I've read through all the other waffle I've forgotten what the OP was about in the first place.

Oual · 16/04/2025 19:17

But on a serious note redo this an ask in site stuff, getting them to remove the quote function from the first post is probably the easiest solution.

This would be my solution, there is simply no need to have the Quote facility on the OP, take it off, problem solved.

Watermill · 17/04/2025 09:23

I really wish mumsnet made it impossible to do this. It’s so fucking annoying!

Thedownsideisup · 17/04/2025 10:27

To thos asking who made me prefect/queen for a day? I did! I made myself prefect/queen for a day. You should try it sometime, it's really liberating

Based on the likes I've had on my OP, the percentage of votes, most of the comments, and the list of similar threads I'm far from the only one who feels this way. It would be brilliant if mumsnet disabled the option to quote the OP! Although I did enjoy a few of the joke posters who did it on this thread particularly the person who had been drinking and therefore found it absolutely hilarious.

I do that occasionally, sorry! It's just for loads of messages and I want to address original message

If there are loads of messages, especially ones by the OP, Then simply replying to the OP and not taking the rest of the thread into consideration is just pointless. Your opinion about simply the OP is no longer relevant.

Quite often, it's a load of drivel on the threads so I only reply to the OP 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you. I am easily amused! 😄

feelinghopeless2025 · 18/04/2025 04:30

Winds me up too OP. Especially when it’s war and peace and someone quotes the entire thing just to write “Agree.”

Notsosure1 · 18/04/2025 04:37

gamerchick · 16/04/2025 19:15

Get in line 😆

CanOfMangoTango · 16/04/2025 19:20

Yes!!!

My God, the rage i had from that thread.

Most of the replies quoted the OP totally unnecessarily as there were only 10 replies when I posted. If people want to see the OP post on a long thread just click Show OP, it's not hard!

"As a man.." nearly sent me over the edge

Link?

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/04/2025 06:28

I agree OP and go through little spates of explaining to posters who've done it on threads I'm reading.

However, the issue has been raised hundreds of times already, including on Site Stuff, and HQ have so far shown no signs of budging.

CalicoPusscat · 16/04/2025 21:07

Instead of quoting the entire OP all you need to do is start your reply with "Going back to the OP ..." or something like that.

I always wonder why the people who do it haven't noticed that most other posters don't do it?

Perhaps we should all start doing it all the time to force HQ's hand?
