To wish people would STOP QUOTING THE OP!!!

There is absolutely no point in quoting the OP. We've all read the OP already. All you're doing is wasting everyone's time by making us scroll past it to read the rest of the thread. I have no idea why so many people do it but it is completely unnecessary so please could anyone who does this stop. This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.

I agree with you, OP - it's infuriating. I haven't had a drink for nearly a year but almost succumbed on the thread where the poor OP was saying she was raped by her husband and everyone was quoting her long opening post. What led me to the drink was the poster who started with, "As a man..."

FUCK OFF!

That's exactly the thread that prompted me to post this. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH! And yes I'm losing the plot on this slightly... but glad to know I'm not the only one.

I love the idea of a ban. How about 3 months for the first offence followed by a permaban for repeat offenders? Sounds completely reasonable to me.

Couldn't agree more!!

Hippee · 16/04/2025 19:24

It's like the people on the street WhatsApp who have a really long discussion about collecting some item they were promised, rather than just messaging the individual concerned. Or the people on a work email list/discussion board who don't seem to realise that every "Like" on a message gets sent to all of the recipients as a separate message.

Definitely 💯

SquashedSquid · 16/04/2025 19:25

Yes! Especially if the OP is really long and they're the first person to reply to it!

ItsUpToYou · 16/04/2025 19:25

MNHQ need to disable it as an option.

Completely agree

It’s so that the op reads your message. It’s so they get a message about it not to remind people of original post

Just use the @babasaclover if you want to get their attention.

It’s funny because I actually have emails turned off so don’t get notified for quotes or @ 😅

Pot luck if I bother to come back and read the thread 🤣

Sidebeforeself · 16/04/2025 19:27

Didn’t MNHQ come on a recent thread about this to say they were considering introducing functionality to stop if from happening?

It's just responding directly isn't it ?

You are on their thread you are already responding directly unless you @ or quote someone else.

I don’t think it works that way. I never got messages when I started a thread (frequent name changer) when they quoted my opening post.

I did if they @ me

Agreed.

Well, that's your choice, isn't it?.

I don't because I like the concept of having a conversation with someone, though sometimes it might not be a bad idea!!!

Why do you start threads and never return to read the responses? Have you too much time on your hands?

SquashedSquid · 16/04/2025 19:25

Yes! Especially if the OP is really long and they're the first person to reply to it!

Yes, saw this exact thing the other day.

Long OP and directly underneath the whole OP reproduced with the first reply.

It's bloody annoying.

It's rarely necessary to quote the entire OP at any point in a thread as everyone should have read it and have a vague idea what the OP is about.

I'd love for one of the posters that feel the need to do this to explain to the rest of us why they do it.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2025 19:38

You should have opened betting on how many smartarses would quote your OP, @Thedownsideisup…predictable and a wee bit tedious.

abracadabra1980 · 16/04/2025 19:39

Not very kind or patient. Many posters are new and don't have any idea that posting the OP [may seriously offend] a thread poster, like it's some kind of exclusive, bitchy, club. You give off an awful vibe.
