Supreme Court rules the term sex refers to 'biological women'

Finally.

There is no “triumph” for me.

i am delighted though.
I feel relief that this reasonable request for clarity has been heard.

The judge also said “the law still gives trans people protection against discrimination.”

As it should do. No one ever argued otherwise.

Isn’t this ruling saying they still wouldn’t be counted as a woman though as they’re not biologically female? Though I guess if they’ve changed their birth certificate how can you prove they’re not short of invasive tests which nobody wants…..can they change their birth certificate? I thought they got a gender recognition certificate or something but I’m maybe out of date?

Sorry haven't read the rest of thread. Invasive testing you describe is a swab of the inside of your cheek to asess your chromosones. Not massively invasive.

That's not true though is it. A person could look like they might have 'male' sex organs. It doesn't give you the right to question whether or not they belong in a toilet. If you saw me, all 6'3 of me in a bathroom, from behind, with a bald head due to chemo, metal band tank top, or sports bra, hair on my back due to PCOS, muscles because I work out and am on (medically necessary) steroids, would you feel the right as the woman did today, to stare at me, cough, and go to open your mouth? To question whether or not I belong?

This rhetoric is not just going to harm trans people. Whether or not people have the right to identify themselves affects everybody.

Years ago, if I noticed you in a toilet I would assume you were female as you were in the women's toilet. Now, I would would probably passume you were a male trans woman. How does that help you/ women in a similar position? You would be more accepted before all of this started!

So sad to see the transphobia on MN and this thread
this isn’t a win for feminism
it’s a win for white supremacy

So sad to see your femphobia.

This is a win for FEMALES of ALL colours and classes. And you know that, so stop lying!

Watching the disgustingly biased channel 4 news with two trans activists. One saying he's 'bored' by women fighting for their rights. What a bloody luxury position. Define male privilege in a nutshell.

Well they are just going to continue to get fucking bored, because us women will NEVER stop fighting for our rights. Interestingly though how these activists out themselves as the misogynists they truly are and that it was never about 'trans rights' to begin with. It was about stopping womens rights. His 'bored' comment proves this. It's a male bored that women fight for our rights. The femphobia and misogyny is confirmed by their own words. And he better fucking get used to being bored. Because he's going to be bored until the day he dies.

The mistreatment of trans individuals in this country is deeply similar to the long-standing and ongoing mistreatment of Black women, women from ethnic minorities , and disabled women.

Our identities as women have constantly been restricted, scrutinised, or completely erased - simply because we don’t align with the narrow, white supremacist version of what femininity is supposed to look like.

next.

Trans are the ones who are mistreating females. Trans are the most privileged, most protected Sacred Caste there is. They VIOLENTLY hate females. You males need to get this through your heads: the days of you terrorising females are coming to an end. If you thought we feminists would ever give up fighting for our rights, you are fucking wrong. NEVER!

Woman is not an 'identity'. It is a SEX CLASS. Women are born, not worn. Take your Male Privilege elsewhere, maybe a Mens Rights Activist forum is more your speed, where you can whinge and complain about those 'uppity women taking away our rights to see our children in family court' or something. Us feminists are DONE with your hateful misogynistic bigotry.

The amount of money wasted on this legal battle for fake feminism is ridiculous
whilst women’s victims groups are screaming out for support and funding

"Fake feminism"

And with that, you've outed yourself as an MRA.

Spending money to get our FUCKING RIGHTS BACK is never a waste of money, MRA. Never. Get fucking used to it. We will NOT...STOP until every single male is out of female only spaces. Feminists will never stop.

Are you 12? My 16yr old could extrapolate out from how changing the meaning of a word to something incorrect and offensive would cause the people the word refers to to feel unable to use it. It doesn’t require a single person to wag their finger at you and say “you can’t use that anymore”.. that’s primary school logic 🙄

An Advanced Search of slashlover shows they are a major Mens Rights Activist/trans activist. Their hatred of women is clear.

Oblomov25 · 17/04/2025 06:17

Bored of women fighting for their rights. Channel 4 news interview 2 x trans activists and one says 'bored'?

I'm genuinely trying to explore my own thought process here, but doesn't this ruling suggest that transwomen are not actually women, although the term woman is in itself a social construct. To me, a transwoman is a woman, but not a female. Does the inclusion of transwomen in women's rights discussions impact negatively on cis women? I'm unsure they do, but willing to consider others opinions on this.

Transwomen are males. So not any kind of woman. Most (97% according to medical stats) transwomen retain their penis and testicles. Tell me; HOW is a male with a cock and balls any type of 'woman'? Please answer that. These are males, (in every way), of the oppressor sex class. They have no lived experience as females. How can a man have an idea of what it is to be a woman? This is males trying to identify into female sex class oppression.

Do you support Rachel Dolezal (google the name); a very pale (when not using very dark foundation and skin tan and afro wig) anglo white woman who 'identifies' as an African American and claims to be trans racial? If you agree it's wrong for a white person to culturally appropriate the oppression and struggle of black person, surely you can see how wrong it is for males to culturally appropriate the oppression and struggle of the female sex class?

No male has any part of womens discussions. Having a MALE in womens rights discussions is like adding a fox to the hen house. It harms women to have a male intruding in our spaces and discussions. No part of womens rights has anything to do with males, no matter how he 'identifies' in his head.

DoddlesMcDoddle · 17/04/2025 06:46

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:03

I understand your response, but feel the reliance on terminology to exclude someone doesn't sit right with me.

So you think that females shouldn't have a terminology or definition to exclude males?

Why do you think a male should be included in anything to do with females?

DoddlesMcDoddle · 17/04/2025 06:49

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:07

I'm not sure the generalisation of "everyone knows it" is accurate.

The supreme court ruled that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex. I agree that when it was published this is exactly what was meant by it. But haven't we progressed and evolved in the past 15 years?

Definitions DON'T CHANGE. Biology DOESN'T CHANGE.

And removing women's ability to define ourselves as distinct from men is NOT 'progressive'. It is regressive.

Is there any chance you could signpost me to the male hockey player case please? I would really appreciate it. I have been keeping a look out, but haven’t come across anything. Thanks very much

if they understood transphobia they can fine them for themselves. Such bigotry

Your 'understanding' of twwaannnnnnnsphobia is any woman defending her rights.

Be honest. That is what you really want to say.

Twittwhoo · 17/04/2025 06:53

FruityCider · 17/04/2025 03:04

As a bisexual woman, I've only ever been targetted by straight, 'natal' women in toilets and things. As a teenager, that meant flushing my clothes down the toilet, pushing me in to thornbushes and telling the teacher I was 'staring' at them. As recently as last week, it was a dirty look in a changing room until they saw my massive norks. (I have had to shave my head and I'm muscular and tall)

On the other hand, I am regularly surrounded by trans women, trans men, nb people. I have never felt judged, threatened, stared at, disrespected (yes, including when I turned down advances!) by a single one of them. Ever. Not as a bisexual feminine looking woman, not as a very, very butch looking woman. I honestly could be mistaken for a 'man' on first look right now. And let me tell you - the first person to question me is going to get a short shrift from me or one of my mates.

This court judgement doesn't define gender, it defines sex. I will fight to the back tooth for people to be allowed to call themselves whatever they like, and pee where they like, and for professional people to dictate where people go in sensitive spaces such as hospitals, with compassion and on a case by case basis. The right to ones own identity is paramount.

Yes, it defines sex. Which is quite important when the Equality Act lists ‘sex’ as one of its protected characteristics.

It also lists ‘gender reassignment’ as one of its protected characteristics.

It doesn’t list ‘gender’ because, as you’ve just approached, ‘gender’ has essentially become a pseudonym for ‘personality’. And how can you create any kind of coherent system of legal or policy based rights around personality? You genuinely might as well build rights around favourite colour.

Nothing but wikipedia! 😂

Which, coincidentally, has a transwoman as head moderator there who deletes any feminist and gender critical content and words entries to make feminism look 'transphobic'. Fancy using wikipedia for a source for anything other than wiping your arse (if one could electronically). They may as well link to Pink News 'definition' of 'transphobia' for all the validity wikipedia the trans activist site has.

DoddlesMcDoddle · 17/04/2025 07:03

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:17

Because the doing so is excluding transwomen and I don't agree with that. I don't think one persons rights should supersede that of another. And I don't believe including transwomen in safe spaces puts biological women at risk. Where is the evidence for this? Or maybe we don't need evidence, how someone feels is enough... as long as that isn't applied to a biological male feeling they are a woman??

Edited

Transwomen are MALE. Men. No part of womens rights has anything to do with any male person. By definition, FEMinism excludes males.

You're really wondering how having FULLY INTACT MALES with their penis and nut sack in a female only space hurts traumatised rape survivors like me? It's not just about safety, but privacy and dignity away from the male gaze. But, here are some links/photos about these Autogynephilic transwomen (males) in female spaces: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10249633/Rape-victim-forced-quit-therapy-sessions-feels-threatened-6ft-trans-woman.html

Is that enough for you?

Or what about this... how about the LA spa incident where a naked male-bodied person with a semi erection was walking about amongst women and children, in a woman's spa? Later emerged that they are on the sex offenders register. But that was how EASY it was for them to gain access to women's spaces.

Or what about the woman's beauty clinics where a male-bodied person demanded the person on duty wax around their penis and testicles? And then tried (unsuccessfully thankfully) to sue these clinics?

What about that? EVERYTHING we warned that would happen when fully intact males enter female spaces, and were told wouldn't happen, has happened. EVERYTHING.

I adore your passion DoddlesMcDoddle, well said!

I certainly feel my 3 year old DD will be safer after yesterday, I am delighted!

I have always said I will be keeping a very close eye on her schools, and if I discover any nonsense about teenage males being allowed to change with her then I would be swiftly removing her and lodging complaints very highly if that were not stopped. This ruling will give parents much needed backing already facing these horrendous issues in our secondary schools.

Now let’s hope our nurses get a resounding victory too! They have been treated disgracefully.

There’s nothing progressive about eroding hard won rights to safety, dignity and protection. We’ve certainly not evolved physically to where a woman has a cock and balls, we’ve not evolved socially to where women aren’t at risk from men’s physical strength, we’ve not evolved psychologically to where men don’t subjugate women.

Funny how “evolve” invariably means women accommodating men, not men winding back their dangerous, misogynistic behaviours.
