Supreme Court rules the term sex refers to 'biological women'

Finally.

There is no “triumph” for me.

i am delighted though.
I feel relief that this reasonable request for clarity has been heard.

The judge also said “the law still gives trans people protection against discrimination.”

As it should do. No one ever argued otherwise.

Such a relief for all.
i am women, hear me roar

I'm actually surprised at how relieved I feel. I thought I'd feel my usual gruff self. Like thank fuck for that, let's get on with it.

But I feel so relieved. So much lighter after the ruling. Like taking off a pair of shoes I didn't realise were so tight.🥲😊

I am simply delighted that a Supreme Court judgement used the word 'lesbian' 27 times.

After today's historic Supreme Court decision can I remind those reading that For Women Scotland are funded entirely by donations.

The work they have done, and the changes they have helped bring about, And not just with regards today's decision, for women and children's rights has been monumental.

They have my utmost admiration and eternal thanks.

So sad to see the transphobia on MN and this thread
this isn’t a win for feminism
it’s a win for white supremacy

I've heard everything now 🤣🤣🤣🤣

dewfirst · 17/04/2025 00:38

I feel relieved about this decision , I sincerely hope this means that no other survivor of rape and childhood sexual abuse could, in a time of severe suicidal depression, be assessed by a Psychiatrist presenting as a bearded male in a dress. Yes - in an NHS acute setting.
Utterly wrong ,devastating.
When a female survivor asks to be helped by a woman they need a woman . It’s so they feel safe . To know the person alone with you has a male body and you are powerless is bloody terrifying .
This is why we need truly safe spaces.

I'm sorry she feels that way. I am a biological realist, but thoroughly support lesbians. Ironically the misogynistic homophobia of the cotton ceiling was one of the things that firmed up my opinions, along with the transing of gay children.

The cotton ceiling was what opened my eyes. It was rape culture, pure and simple. Trans women who insisted on being in lesbian spaces were rapists and those who supported them were their enablers. Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it.

AnSolas · 17/04/2025 00:41

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:17

Because the doing so is excluding transwomen and I don't agree with that. I don't think one persons rights should supersede that of another. And I don't believe including transwomen in safe spaces puts biological women at risk. Where is the evidence for this? Or maybe we don't need evidence, how someone feels is enough... as long as that isn't applied to a biological male feeling they are a woman??

Edited

Men including men who call themselves "trans" sex offend at higher rates than women.

If you want evidence to prove or disprove that that you can look at the data collected by the UK justice system.

So its up to you to prove that a sub-class of men do not put women at risk

But your first problem is you will claim not to be able to identify or classify the three subgroups of humans.

Without the basic ability to classify humans into the three groups your evidence can not exist

Willyoujustbequiet · 17/04/2025 01:26

I haven't stopped smiling all day.

This is such a watershed moment with immense implications. I will be forever grateful to those brave warriors that never gave up in spite of all the threats and vitriol.

I'm a woman. Cis is obsolete. Transwomen are men.

The relief is palpable.

Well prior to the ruling she was heterosexual as and when you self ID as a man.

And she was a great nasty homophobe if she did not accept that a penis attached to a human with womanly feelings should be included in her potential dating pool.

But there is and will be a social backlash against the T which will harm the LGB. People have been calling themselves LGBT rather than saying I am gay/bi or gay/bi and transgender. And that will have to be put right again.

Abitofalark · 17/04/2025 01:41

juldan · 16/04/2025 20:25

@Abitofalark
No, but multiple someones who wanted to be referred to as women did rape women in spaces which were supposed to be for women only - a hospital ward and a women’s prison.

What's your point? I don't recall discussing rapists. Are you confusing me with someone else?

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:42

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:00

Yes, absolutely understand your point, and I agree that being a woman isn't defined or measured according to someone's degree of femininity. So what is it defined by? And I'm
asking myself that question. Does it need to be defined or can it vary according to the individual? What makes me feel like a woman may not be the case for you, but it doesn't make either of us less of one.

It’s defined by biology. Any other definition requires certain personality types to be required to be a woman, when it’s actually about - and should always be about - body types (ie male or female). Women are oppressed because of their sex - it is the root cause of oppression. It’s the only relevant factor. Nobody asks a baby girl what her gender is before performing FGM. You can’t identify out of oppression.

There's some who believe that natal born males have a sexual attraction to themselves if they present as female, especially so in stockings and a corset - have seen this in Manchester city centre. The underwear was like a codpiece.

There was no doubt that they were getting a sexual kick from doing it. During the day in the shopping centre. Walking aggressively.

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:43

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:03

I understand your response, but feel the reliance on terminology to exclude someone doesn't sit right with me.

But wouldn’t using reliance on personality types exclude people?

And yes men are excluded from being women. Just like dogs are excluded from being cats. It doesn’t mean they can’t be a non-masculine man.

This is why it’s best to stick to something objective - like sex.

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:46

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:07

I'm not sure the generalisation of "everyone knows it" is accurate.

The supreme court ruled that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex. I agree that when it was published this is exactly what was meant by it. But haven't we progressed and evolved in the past 15 years?

No

Women are still adult human females.

That hasn’t changed.

What DID change, until today, was that people who felt a bit feminine tried to change that definition to make it about them, and shouted down any woman who objected

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:50

AngeDough · 16/04/2025 21:15

if they understood transphobia they can fine them for themselves. Such bigotry

YOU’RE the one making claims people are transphobic. But can’t point out a single post. Why would anyone else look as you are commanding? We don’t give a fuck about appeasing you, you know.

Because the doing so is excluding transwomen

So what.

Trans women are men.

Why do women have to include them in anything? Why is it up to women to budge up and make room? Are trans women lazy? Or, like most men, expecting women to do the hard work.

And I don't believe including transwomen in safe spaces puts biological women at risk.

And you don’t speak for women on this.

Where is the evidence for this?

How many stats do you want? Transwomen are men. Men commit alarming numbers of violent crimes against women.

Or maybe we don't need evidence, how someone feels is enough... as long as that isn't applied to a biological male feeling they are a woman??

Correct. They can feel all they like, they ain’t women. And it’s not up to ACTUAL women to make sacrifices to validate those men’s feelings.

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:54

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:20

What would the benefit be of having such a word?

Well if you’re taking that attitude - if it’s only a word and words don’t have benefits to them, why do TW need to bar the label “woman”

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:56

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 16/04/2025 21:21

Woman, the word is WOMAN. Not adult female human. That sounds ludicrous.

.

Edited

I think that TRA wants women to have “adult human female” and men to have “woman”. Pathetic

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 01:58

fourbedwinner · 16/04/2025 21:24

Yes. Do you have an answer?

I do. It’s the same benefit as any word. Because it identifies its definition. The same way we’ve got from the word “dog”. It identifies what a dog is.

Really did you have to ask to figure out the benefits of language use?

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 02:02

AngeDough · 16/04/2025 21:36

For goodness sake. Live and let live.

This is just a smart arse way of saying “STFU”

And no, we won’t. Try and find a smarter argument next time, because we ain’t going away

JandamiHash · 17/04/2025 02:06

AngeDough · 16/04/2025 21:43

maybe better to say get a life.

Is your next comeback gonna be “My dad’s bigger than your dad?”

The only people likely to target her are men with penises who demand she should be attracted to them because of how they identify
