Supreme Court rules the term sex refers to 'biological women'

Finally.

There is no “triumph” for me.

i am delighted though.
I feel relief that this reasonable request for clarity has been heard.

The judge also said “the law still gives trans people protection against discrimination.”

As it should do. No one ever argued otherwise.

You might need to explain this a bit further.

AFAICS - “Blah blah blah, struggles, blah blah blah, women should be on the side of men, blah blah blah, <brains fall out>”

The amount of money wasted on this legal battle for fake feminism is ridiculous
whilst women’s victims groups are screaming out for support and funding

Another nonsense post.

Imagine that if transgender activist groups did not over reach and misinterpret the EA in the first place, imagine how much money would be available. Don’t blame women for having to go to court.

And the fact that there are women taking rape crisis centres to court is a sure sign that there is even more money being wasted because of those misinterpretations in the first place.

She did fund it, and it’s refreshing to see wealthy people using their wealth for the greater good

I helped fund it too... not as much as JKR I'm sure, but it's a few quid very well spent!

The mistreatment of trans individuals in this country is deeply similar to the long-standing and ongoing mistreatment of Black women, women from ethnic minorities , and disabled women.

Our identities as women have constantly been restricted, scrutinised, or completely erased - simply because we don’t align with the narrow, white supremacist version of what femininity is supposed to look like.

next.

White supremacism runs parallel with gender ideology because it subjugates ALL women. And when I say women, I mean biological women, not men who have the feelz. You really need to be a bit more subtle about insulting the women on here, we’ve heard it all before and we don’t care, it’s water off a duck’s back. You can’t bully us into submission, we know who is included in our sex class and it isn’t men.

It is if someone is telling you that you weren’t raped by a man when you were

If you were raped then you were raped. The majority of trans women just want to peacefully and lawfully live their life.

society decided that Lesbian actually meant women who have sex with donkeys. Would you still feel comfortable calling yourself a lesbian!? Same difference..

Erm what 🙄

There is no same difference at all, what you’ve said is frankly absolutely absurd!

Men and woman can have consensual sex with each other and it not be illegal, women/male committing bestiality is illegal under section 69!

In what facetious world are you living in?

Men and women having any kind of sex with each other is not lesbian sex though, is it?

It's difficult for me to say how much I dislike this kind of deliberate, cynical tactic of co-opting groups of women into TRA arguments.

So I'll just tell you, I am a member of one of your approved, intersectional subdivisions (disabled women, long time sufferer of a SMI), and there will be a lot of celebrations today from women who have been terrified about having to be admitted to hospital, knowing they could be stuck on a ward with men who enjoy the opportunity to be abusive, knowing that the staff will back them up and tell the woman off for being transphobic if she objects to his presence.

If you think that women detained in hospital- many of whom will have been victims of a huge amount of trauma and abuse from men- don't deserve the very basic protection of not being subject to assault in hospital from men- then I think that is truly appalling. I hope you're not a woman, if so you have absolutely no empathy for other women who happen to be not as privileged as you.

Imagine how many support groups for trans people could have been funded with the money that has been spent on ensuring that women can't have female only ones.

Why are you part quoting me!? I wasn’t referring to the legality of either as you well know! I was using an analogy to show how changing the meaning of a word to something completely different and offensive changes whether people feel comfortable using it. At least have the decency to quote the whole post!

So blame stonewall and the Scottish government for misrepresenting the law as it stands. Now we have clarity.

Do you think it was fair or right that until recently a rape victim could be compelled to refer to her rapist as a woman in court. Or that the victim of an assault was admonished for referring to her male attacker as he in court.

What on earth has that got to do with the ruling?
someone wanting to be referred to as a women is not the same as murder or rape. How ridiculous

@Abitofalark
No, but multiple someones who wanted to be referred to as women did rape women in spaces which were supposed to be for women only - a hospital ward and a women’s prison.

TheOtherRaven · 16/04/2025 20:25

It's not difficult. Where a single sex service has been provided - where it is clear that women need provision away from men and not mixed sex - then it is for women. And all men are excluded. Regardless of circumstance.

There will obviously need to be additional options for men who may want them, but the women's spaces are needed by the women, and despite the many people who believe passionately that men matter and women don't, the law doesn't agree with them. And now women know it doesn't. And policies and law departments and insurers all have legal clarity.

The next step: that where multiple and inclusive services are offered (as they should be) and are tax payer funded there must be one that is women only. On the basis of sex. To be accessible to all women. That'll be the Sarah Summers case.

If you were raped then you were raped. The majority of trans women just want to peacefully and lawfully live their life.

Tell that to the female patient who was raped on a ward by a trans woman and the NHS trust abc police told her for the longest time that she couldn’t have been raped as there were no male patients on the ward.
Tell that to the female prisoners who were raped and assaulted by Karen White.

AngeDough · 16/04/2025 20:21

If you were raped then you were raped. The majority of trans women just want to peacefully and lawfully live their life.

If I was raped then someone told me it would be bigoted to refer to the person who raped me with their penis as a ‘man’ that would make my life significantly worse. Ditto if I was told I wasn’t actually raped because there were no men around.

They can lawfully live their lives - by staying out of women’s spaces as the law sets out it isn’t for them.

I am intrigued by “They just want to live their lives in peace!”. Because it seems they want to be accepted into the space opposite to their sex. Which isn’t peaceful - women don’t want this and for good reasons. When we’ve stated it we’ve been attacked, punched, mocked, doxxed and threatened. It’s also not very peaceful to behave completely regressively then gaslight others into thinking you’re progressive.

TheOtherRaven · 16/04/2025 20:28

I'm afraid if the 'they just want to live their lives in peace' worked for women, women would not have had to push for years to get today's definitive interpretation of law to defend themselves.

TheWisePlumDuck · 16/04/2025 20:28

Yellowhammer09 · 16/04/2025 20:30

What an absolute waste of time, effort, and resources. Of course a woman is a biological sex.

I was genuinely surprised to hear of this verdict. I was prepping for another instance in the downfall of society.

Redboynorfolk · 16/04/2025 20:30

We live in a mad world 🌍 fancy having to go to the highest court in the land to answer a question that a five year old could clear up.. astonishing really

AngeDough · 16/04/2025 20:29

andtheworldrollson · 16/04/2025 20:31

I think most women are happy if transwomen are able to live their own lives - but for some living their lives actually translates as harming women and making it impossible for women to live their own lives.

everyone needs to be able to get along. No one deserves to be written out of society. This ruling says that women can not be written out. Women exist, they are not transwomen and sometimes that matters
