Supreme Court rules the term sex refers to 'biological women'

Finally.

There is no “triumph” for me.

i am delighted though.
I feel relief that this reasonable request for clarity has been heard.

The judge also said “the law still gives trans people protection against discrimination.”

As it should do. No one ever argued otherwise.

Do we want to explain what this has to do with 'white supremacy' or are we just throwing out nonsense to see the reaction?

I assume this is a rhetorical question.

The mistreatment of trans individuals in this country is deeply similar to the long-standing and ongoing mistreatment of Black women, women from ethnic minorities , and disabled women.

Our identities as women have constantly been restricted, scrutinised, or completely erased - simply because we don’t align with the narrow, white supremacist version of what femininity is supposed to look like.

Helleofabore · 16/04/2025 19:57

Is @lostcat also forgetting that the hand down speech also specifically said that including male people in the term 'woman' made the group a heterogeneous group which is quite the opposite of the EA?

There really seems to be some kind of disconnect here.

I suspect though that it is coming from other areas of social media. From the SAME people who were responsible for the fuckwittery in the first place - starting with those people responsible for shaping the Stonewall policies that they advised organisations to adopt. And other extreme transgender activists.

Surely any person with some pride in their critical thinking skills would think twice before taking the advice of any of those who were making such falsely supported statements in the past? Or has that thought not yet sunk in?

I know what your comment was, it’s as ridiculous as my analogy.. If you change the meaning of a word to something else entirely people stop using it for themselves. Quite frankly bestiality is as offensive as including men in the word woman. And no subtext despite your suggestion… I know well enough that my sister and her wife don’t sleep with donkeys… or men whatever they call themselves, either!

So you stopped using and nobody told you that you couldn't? OK. You brought up donkeys, not me.

I give up. Not one person can say they were told not to call themselves a woman.

Black women, women with disabilities, women from differing cultural backgrounds are all women and it’s only ever been TRA who have tried to pretend they are not

TW on the other hand are men and absolutely not women

Transwomen aren't any type of women. Transwomen aren't a subset of the female sex category.

They are male.

Your attempt to force team them with women is tiresome and predictable.

If your feminism includes males, you aren't a feminist. You're a male rights activist.

Male people are male people regardless of how they identify.

Force teaming that group of people with groups of female people's oppression is misogynistic. Are you aware of that?

It has nothing to do with what those male people look like. They are male people. It has nothing to do with femininity. They are male people.

Centring male people in feminism is deeply misogynistic.

I give up. You can't give one example when you called yourself a woman and someone said you couldn't do that.

I’ve just given one. I’m not sure why you want names and dates before it validates you. Know one owes you an answer to your pathetic demand BTW.

EasternStandard · 16/04/2025 20:02

Lostcat · 16/04/2025 17:20

No. It means that there are specific protections under the EA reserved for women assigned female at birth, just as there are specific protections under the EA for trans women on the grounds of gender reassignment.

@Lostcatthe pp by @ArabellaScottoutlines where it applies

When those places are required by law to provide single sex spaces do you see the change this ruling has made?

It's incredibly racist and ableist to equate women of colour and women with disabilities to male people with transgender identities.

EasternStandard · 16/04/2025 20:03

ArabellaScott · 16/04/2025 18:13

Anywhere that is designated single sex.

Employers, workplaces, schools, will have to provide single sex facilities, for example. To comply with H&S regs.

Service providers will do so at their discretion, I imagine, but if they say it's 'women only', it has to be 'women only'. No men, no matter how they identify.

Here @lostcat

As a brown woman, the only people that have attempted to erase my "identity" (though a more accurate term would be "reality") as a woman have been TRAs.

Well TRAs have delighted in women being less safe

transphobic generalisation.

i want trans people to be safe but not at the expense of women and girls

There is no need for anyone’s safety to be at the expense of anyone else’s. Again, transphobic statement.

Stonewall and other TRAs could have campaigned for third spaces and trans facilities but they didn’t

This judgement doesn’t mean that trans people should have “third spaces”. Trans people are still protected under the act, and their protected characteristic is gender reassignment . trans people should not have to live their lives, othered, siloed and outed.

Being called “transphobic” has no impact any more.

its great that trans people retain all the rights they’ve had for years. What they don’t have is the right to women’s stuff.

So when you called yourself a woman, someone told you that you couldn't call yourself that?

Given that several times in an NHS setting, either in writing or in person, the word woman was omitted I would say that’s being told not to use the word woman. I am making the assumption here that you understand the concept of implication.

Aligning “the struggles” of (mostly) white men with black women.

Trans people are demographically the safest people on the country.

Black women and women from ethnic minorities have been forced out of their single sex spaces by entitled makes who the law has now made clear, never had the right to be there. Disabled women have been forced to take intimate care from men who said they were women, and gaslit if they objected. The mistreatment of these women is being perpetrated by gender ideologues, so how dare you co-op their oppression to shore up your luxury belief?

Woman is an adult human female. It's a biological fact, not an identity. Being a woman has nothing to do with 'femininity' and you might know that if you were one.

Men aren't women, and it's got fuck all to do with race, you oppression thief.
