Bumcheeks fully on show at family attraction

Today I was at a local attraction aimed at young families. It's an outdoor attraction with a zoo, a few tame rides, a soft play, that sort of thing. Aimed at kids under 10.

There were two teenage girls there, probably about 16, didn't appear to be with anyone else, who were wondering around looking at the animals. One of them had on the shortest "skirt" imaginable. When I say bum cheeks were on show, I don't just mean a peek or a little glimpse. I mean the "skirt" ended almost at the top of her arse. It's truly was like a belt. Not only that but she was wearing a thong and fishnet tights. You could see her entire bum, and things were only just decent around the front.
She and her friend must have noticed quite a few shocked glances and maybe whispered comments because her friend said loudly "well that's THEIR problem isn't it"

Is it? AIBU to think its entirely inappropriate?

They should rename this site Thongsnet. There’s one of these ridiculous threads almost every bloody day.

I agree.

This falls squarely under the heading of teens do stupid shit. She will look back on this in 20 years and die a slow death.

I work at several secondary schools where the girls have their skirts rolled up so high that a slight breeze is an existential thread to their underwear. They obviously think they look fucking marvellous though.

We're you secretly worried husband looked and made him uncomfortable as their young girls. Wear what they want whilst they can.

LittlerCharlotte · 16/04/2025 19:13

I agree with you..I absolutely loved wearing short skirts in my youth, but there was a time and a place, and there still is. The zoo isn't one of them.

Fluffypotatoe123987 · 16/04/2025 19:19

Why do you think they wear shorts skirts or shorts to attract mens gaze. They wear and all.ladies wear what we feel comfortable in. A short skirt or shorts does not mean looking to attract men or boys.

I agree! How far have we sunk as a society that for 16 year olds, dressing to attract the opposite sex means having your entire arse out?

See above message

SquashedSquid · 16/04/2025 19:30

I wonder what they were wondering?

Your saying someone walks around with their whole butt out as that's how they feel comfortable? Dont be so naive. You dont walk around like that and not know that everyone will be looking at you and your butt. Especially men.

Well the teens don't agree with this comment. I mention to my 15 year old her shorts are to short she replies well men shouldn't be looking usually followed by women and girls can wear what they want and what they feel comfortable in should i wear a burka the literal response. Shes kicked of at me today as ive said iv got her a long dressing gown rather than her short one as parading round in tank top and short short pj bottoms in front of my bf who isnt her dad isnt appropriate she cant understand my rationale on this and all i ever hear is a person can wear what they feel comfy in jts other peoples problems. In regards to sa you can be sa in jeans and a jumper so clothes has nothing to do with that. But ultimately speaking with my teen dd it's not for men or boys.

Ok she sounds like she hasnt got to the stage where she realises how men think. As long as she is happy that men will be looking then I guess it doesnt matter.

At that age I was young of course but I was still aware enough to know if I walked around with my bits out that men would be looking.

SpringSunshineanddaffodils · 16/04/2025 22:03

Your DD is wrong though. People can't just wear what they are comfortable in and expect to be accepted by society.

To rephrase that; they can but there may well be consequences for her and it may cause others to be upset, which should bother most caring people.

Does she think it's OK to funerals like that? The workplace? A job interview?
She needs to learn that her own happiness and comfort is not the most important thing all of the time, if she wants to be a part of society.

Wearing what they feel comfy in and men shouldn’t be looking -so they’d wander home after dark on their own dressed like that -being so comfy etc?
Also it doesn’t seem to be a thing in other countries. Perhaps other countries are more religious and modesty is a thing.

Blinkyy · 16/04/2025 22:07

I think they’re just influenced by who they see online and emulate them.

Definitely sounds like they are being influenced somewhere coming out with lines such as 'women should be able to wear what they want and men shouldnt be looking', that's not something a child/teenager would say, they have heard/read that somewhere.

ZenNudist · 16/04/2025 22:12

I just can't get worked up about this. I would very much think she's the one with her arse out so that's her problem.

Whether she's at a family attraction or not is irrelevant because most 3yo won't give a shit. I suppose it might brighten some of the dads days if they were creepy types. Most dads to young dc are too busy trying to chase their toddler about or mansplain something in a performance parent manner ("no darling the serenghetti is a semi arid plain so you wouldn't see a chicken there"). 16yo arse doesn't really register as a concern.

Well on the plus side at least you have a more positive view of men than most do on here!

Idinahui · 16/04/2025 22:21

Those orang utans are much worse. Shameless, in fact.

I got shouted at a few months ago for remembering from the '60s the name 'pubic pelmet' for very short 'skirts' .

Arancia · 16/04/2025 22:35

"well that's THEIR problem isn't it"
I really resent this attitude that there should be no boundaries as to how we should behave and dress in public. We all have to share the same public space, and in order for that shared public space to be neutral, safe and comfortable for majority, some consideration for other people HAS to be there from everybody who uses the shared, public space. It's not okay to put your most intimate body parts on display for the entire world to see, and then be arrogant enough to call it a "them" problem when people - understandably - are shocked.

Also, at 16...where the Hell are the parents? Why are the parents allowing their teenagers to wear clothes so skimpy that their arses are on show?

I wonder what your dd would think if all her teachers turned up at school with a bare bum. Do you think she'd uphold their right to wear what they feel comfortable in and say people shouldn't be looking if her friends commented on it?

Doubt it.

Teenage arrogance, nothing more.

Plenty of blokes wear what they want and expect to be accepted by society. In fact they are accepted by society, apparently.

CoffeeCantata · 17/04/2025 15:46

Clothing like this is a very conscious choice to make. It's giving out a definite message to the world. OK - if these girls can clearly dish it out - can they take the flak?

PPs who see nothing wrong with this choice of clothing - what message do YOU think they wanted to convey? We're always being told that behaviour (in this case, clothes) is communication.

Westfacing · 17/04/2025 16:13

It does seem to be a conscious decision to show the full shape of the arse these days.

Out and about you see women, not talking teens, in leggings that look just like a pair of tights, with a short bomber-style jacket - it does look as though they've forgotten to put on a skirt.

I'm not talking gym/running situations but going about daily business e.g. going to work!

Yes - but I think clothing (like many choices) is tribal. I don't know anyone, my age or younger, including my 20-something gorgeous daughter, who would dress like this. That's no coincidence!

People who wear this kind of garment probably mix mainly with others who have similar tastes.

If anyone dressed like these girls (or even in scrunch-bums) in my circle we'd think they'd taken leave of their senses. I'd definitely be judging!

bigcushionlover · 18/04/2025 09:24

I don’t get why this bothers people. Standards eh? What people wear is their own business - I have too many other things on my mind to be fixated with this nonsense.
