What threads do you always hide?

If any!

If I scroll through and see anyone ask about accountancy help, HMRC advice, tax return, accounts etc I just hide them. I can't stand seeing 90% of the "advice" on those threads being absolute bollocks.

I used to hide the divorce ones when I was going through mine, I didn't want extra headspace going into it.

Run along anti trans people

No one is 'anti trans'.

What you really want to say is run along feminists and pro-womens rights people.

Perhaps anti-women people like you should run along.

DoddlesMcDoddle · 16/04/2025 07:44

Tandora · 16/04/2025 07:05

What you see as being the meaning and value behind the endless repetition of that platitudinous mantra is an endless source of fascination.

Anyway, the subject of this thread is content that people hide and why…

As opposed to the 'trans women are women' mindless thought terminating mantra.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 16/04/2025 07:33

God yes - the anti trans threads. Awful.

You mean anti male threads.

Yes, how awful to advocate for not having fully intact males in our spaces where women are vulnerable, nor males cheating women and girls out of sports scholarships, placings or awards. How awful feminism is, right?

You anti women haters and misogynists and MRAs are such a cliche.

Returning to the actual thread, I hide:

  • threads where the OP is asking if she can exclude her step-children from things, as though they magically appeared when she met her partner
  • threads where the OP is out 28 hours a day and has a newborn but is wondering what breed of dog to get
  • threads where people faux-naively ask what happens when you stop taking weight loss drugs
  • threads where posters compete over batshit made-up hygiene standards (daily changing of towels, bed sheets etc and using half a bottle of bleach every time they go near the loo)
  • AIBUs that could have been resolved in 10 minutes by the people speaking to each other

Basically everything except Pedants' Corner.

Livpool · 16/04/2025 08:34

Anything that might set off my anxiety or intrusive thoughts…

ilovesooty · 16/04/2025 08:42

I don't hide the stuff on the FWR board but I have little interest in reading it based on the posters there and what they say. My odd times of involvement based on threads popping up in Active haven't been a positive experience. I don't see why that's so contentious. I don't want to read the content on mainstream boards.

I don't hide anything but I do find threads about animal abuse distressing and usually wish I hadn't clicked on them. And the recent disability and benefit bashing threads are tedious.

menopausalfart · 14/04/2025 19:28

I dip my toe in gender discussions sometimes. I don't know why I bother as I know whatever I say will make no difference to those filled with misplaced hate. I don't tend to read the replies though. Like I said, I hide certain topics but sometimes they bleed through into other threads.

It displays such a lack of comprehension to just blanket-label views that differ from your own as 'hate', especially when they are views based on fact rather than fantasy. Plopping posts on a thread and not hanging around to see the replies only demonstrates the fact that your argument is so flimsy that you know full well it won't stand up to the faintest scrutiny.

There is nothing 'hateful' about recognising the incontrovertible fact that people can't change sex, or about not wanting men in female-only spaces or women's sport. Laws and rules shouldn't be based on fiction.

All of this. I honestly cannot understand how/why women's standing up for their rights is being interpreted as 'hate'. That strikes me as the deepest misogyny.

To answer the question of this thread though, I don't hide anything, i just don't click on things. There are plenty of bits of the site I almost totally ignore. The Royal Family section for one,

Exactly. I can't help but think that hiding threads is a small symptom of the apparent modern belief that people (adults and children) need to be kept 'safe' by never having to encounter anything they dislike or disagree with. That's not safety. It's arguably really dangerous for the future of humanity.

AmIthatSpringy · 16/04/2025 09:55

I hide them if they have trigger words in the title, like hubby or yummy or horrid

or if it's an old thread that is getting a trickle of replies but I'm bored with the thread.

i like to keep my "threads I'm on" tidy

Don't you think that's going a tiny bit overboard?

Life and the world are full of situations in which we dislike or disagree with something but have to navigate it nonetheless. Mumsnet is a site people are on voluntarily, often for a bit or light relief of entertainment. Why is being able to choose your experience a bad thing? I wouldn't repeatedly invite someone I disliked to my house for dinner, why would I choose to spend my time on Mumsnet interacting with threads I didn't want to?

That's why I said it was a small symptom. Obviously it doesn't matter to the world one bit if MNers hide threads they don't like. But I think the desire to not just avoid things you don't like (e.g. by just not clicking on threads) but actually expect to be able to set things up to prevent you from even knowing they are there does in a small way mimic an attitude that's become very prevalent in society in recent years.

But many don’t want even fully transitioned transwomen in female spaces. Or that not anti trans?

Yeah, I hear that a lot and I dunno. I'm not sure how old you are, but my kids are university age and I look at the world they're going to be going out into and it looks a lot more shit than the one my generation did. Climate change, Trump, polarised societies, insane house prices, AI taking up jobs and scraping creative content, failing health services. I think they're facing up to quite a lot on a daily basis.

Trans women are males no matter what body modifications they do (the majority don’t). So no, they shouldn’t be in those spaces either. This has also been pointed out to you many times too.

Lucky the Supreme Court agrees.

But what you are referring to as a 'fully transitioned transwoman ' is still a man. No one can change their sex.

Henry8thHoover · 16/04/2025 11:34

Sad ones about animals, anything that has hubby or talk me down in the title. Any that have ‘let’s call her/him’ in the OP instant click out and hidden.
I have the Feminism board hidden.

menopausalfart · 16/04/2025 11:43

@AllProperTeaIsTheft The reason I don't stop and read the comments is because of the hate that's directed towards me. Your arguments always fall flat.

menopausalfart · 16/04/2025 11:45

As for women's spaces, will fully transitioned trans men now have to share the bathroom with us?

BlueCleaningCloth · 16/04/2025 11:48

Any of the ones where people are spouting off myth after myth about the incredible benefits of breastfeeding, not realising that there is zero evidence it has any long term impact on a child, and only a couple of very minor short term benefits in infancy. It's just so sad to see the state of infant feeding support in this country that otherwise intelligent people have been hoodwinked into genuinely believing that it has any influence on things like IQ, longterm health, obesity etc. and then it's used to try and force mothers into feeling pressured into breastfeeding. I know so many women who wouldn't have gone through the pain and stress and sleep deprivation of breastfeeding if they'd known better.

Yes. We will have to share bathrooms with people that are men. Nice job, TERFS.

The only category I’ve ever hidden was Brexit before the vote. I dismissed them as deranged fantasists and was sure nobody in their right mind would vote to leave the EU.
How wrong I was…
