Feel annoyed we can’t go on another holiday this year

We usually do 2 abroad holidays a year one week each and 3 uk short breaks aswell.
This year we have come away abroad for 11 nights with the idea that if we came longer that would be our abroad holiday this year.
We have our 3 uk breaks booked this year too.
Well it’s nearing the end of our abroad holiday and I’m the type of person who’s always got to have something booked to look forward to (holidays are our thing we don’t spend money on anything else) so I’m now starting to get that holiday blues sad feeling of we are heading home in a few days and where usually we would be back in August we won’t be back until April again next year.

AIBU for thinking that waiting a year after an abroad family holiday is hard? Or do I need a reality check and look forward to our abroad holiday this time next year and we will do 11-14 nights again.

Financially we can afford to go in August this year but hubby works for his parents business and when I broached the subject to his mum that we may do a sneaky week in August she promptly informed me that he didn’t have any holiday days left (in fact he is already over his allowance of holidays with the breaks we’ve got booked in the uk this year)
I said well he can take a weeks unpaid and she said it’s not about the time off we’ve got a business to run and work to do.
So that annoyed me 😂

AIBU?

Ive just come off a thread by TheBuffetInspector …. Very sad !
And then read this thread title 🥱

If all you have to look forward to, if it’s the be all and end all then I would look at other areas lacking in your life. Perhaps more responsibilities at work ( other than being a locum ) might educate you on the responsibilities of running a business.
Plus
It would Give you more to do and focus on. ( I don’t consider your situation lucky at all given your current thread )

Yup, this

I haven't been on holiday for 3 years.

Get some perspective and maybe find a way to stop needing to run away and escape from your life so much.

Those of us who can't afford holidays away from the home yearly (let alone multiple times a year) are also disappointed not to have that. It's not because we're not used to go away frequently that we don't miss it or want it 🙄

I spoke to a school mum during the summer holidays once, they went abroad every school holidays. She was saying they had enjoyed their recent holiday but because they had a fortnight there, her husband would now have no time off til October half term (when they were going somewhere else)
My sympathy was slightly limited!
I didn't begrudge they could afford multiple holidays but I couldnt feel too sad he'd have to wait 8 weeks til the next one.

When people don’t work a full time job they just don’t appreciate it’s not that simple getting the time off.

You can’t just keep taking unpaid leave and dumping everyone else in it.
It’s a complete lack of a very basic understanding!

In flood of tears after reading that thread 💔

Finding it hard to only have another 3 holidays this year and another foreign holiday next April and feeling like you have nothing to look forward to does sound whilst you are actually on holiday sounds like an absolutely shite way to live tbf. It’s like living with an addiction.

So you think OP should work more and travel the world less, be in her office learning business instead of showing her children the world?
Yikes, you should read the book '5 biggest regrets of the dying' it might make you realise that you have priorities completely wrong.
OP sounds like she has plenty money, a family, a good job, no one us going to thank her for putting in more hours at work.
No one is getting out of this world alive, if OP would like 2 holidays overseas, has the money, has a young family then why on earth are you saying she needs to be looking at other things to do...like work, baffling...

momtoboys · 10/04/2025 20:01

Oh, dear. I have not read the responses but I know this isn't going to go well.

Lighttodark · 10/04/2025 20:03

What’s with all the “abroad holiday” - sounds weird vs holiday abroad.

op Yabu.

aCatCalledFawkes · 10/04/2025 20:04

I find this really unreasonable. If you can go away why does it need to be August? Why not October or February or May or over new year. How about the start of September......? I feel like you are being very dramatic over not being able to go on holiday in one month in twelve.

Delphiniumandlupins · 10/04/2025 20:04

What do you call a first world problem that even the majority of the first world don't empathise with? Change your mindset and focus on your next holiday, even if it's 'only' a UK break.

choccytime · 10/04/2025 20:07

Is this for real🙄

Yes I have two of my own, All the months I have pointed out have half term or the Christmas holidays.

0hHellNo · 10/04/2025 20:14

I've never been on holiday, ever. Much less been abroad. I'm in my 50s and know I probably never will.

OP, please understand how fortunate you are.

You are aware that school holidays also feature in February, May and October yes?
Anyway, of course YABU, also spoilt. No it isn't against the law to be financially comfortable, it is very unpleasant to whine about one 11 day foreign holiday and three IK breaks when some folk don't get any.
Wind your neck in and stop being a brat.

Ok to clear this question up, yes may half term we are on our first uk break, October second uk break and December our 3rd uk break which only leaves summer hols in August 😄

I get it.
We used to go away abroad twice a year, but don't be now for various reasons and it feels rubbish! (And yes, I slog my guts out at work, am grateful for the fact I can afford holidays due to this, etc).
This year we've already had our abroad holiday, and due to now having to go in school holidays with the astronomical costs (new to us this year, didn't realise how crippling it is) and we won't be going again for over a year and it's a bloody long time to wait! I'd happily book two smaller holidays and go twice again next time.
I'm like you and need something to look forward to.
UK breaks are lovely but just not the same. I live for my holidays and we also don't really spend on much else.
You're getting a lot of hate, which I don't get. You both work and earn, and spend accordingly - you are allowed to feel disappointed! Just because other people aren't in the same boat it doesn't make your feelings unreasonable.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/04/2025 20:33
