Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

My DM is a retired tailor and we happened to be having the conversation about bias cut dresses the other day. She reckons the only time she has seen them look truly flattering on any shape is when the dress is made out of high quality, non-shiny, weighty silk crepe and the person wearing it has spent some more serious money on the right underwear. From what I’ve seen I think this is a fair assessment. Shiny, thin, clingy and/or static prone satin can be very unflattering.

valentinka31 · 09/04/2025 22:58

Satin will cling to bulges that larger women will feel self-conscious about. It's a lovely colour but I'd got for a more flowing style, more forgiving. This is too clingy.

TiredCatLady · 09/04/2025 22:58

Sorry OP that dress is bloody awful - it’s going to show every lump and bump, plus that neckline really won’t suit anyone over an A cup or who needs a more supportive bra. It’s been photoshopped to fuck on both models (you can tell by the cleavage position on the model not matching the neckline/profile of the dress).

passthebiscuittins · 09/04/2025 22:58

Is this a joke?! That’s unbelievably hideous and unflattering for the vast majority of women. I would pull out if a bride expected me to wear that.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/04/2025 23:00

Why have you chosen that particular colour? What's it got to with?
It's not a colour found in natural flowers or anything
It's not very nice.

Trishyb10 · 09/04/2025 23:02

Looks spot on, a nice classic style, go,go girl.. hope its a good price x

Silverstars21 · 09/04/2025 23:02

There is a fine line between not wishing the bridesmaids to outshine the bride & have them look awful with every lump & bump & crease there for all to see, even in the slim.

FleurDeFleur · 09/04/2025 23:02

What is your budget per bridesmaid?

What it looks like on a slimmer person

It looks like a 1940s nightdress.

It's also not going to flatter many skin tones.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 09/04/2025 23:03

Why if your largest bridesmaid is a size 12 have you used that photo.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:50

I do like this. I wish the sleeves were less fluttery

Edited

Of course you like it ... it's just like the unflattering satin dress you started this thread with, only difference is the fluttery sleeves 😂

Outofthepan · 09/04/2025 23:05

Is this a reverse?

ThisChic · 09/04/2025 23:06

Shatandfattered · 09/04/2025 22:04

Absolutely not. That dress is made for an A or less cup i can imagine it on someone a size 4 but its not flattering at all

I think more than an A cup bust could fit into it.

Poppyseeds79 · 09/04/2025 23:06

Come on OP help us out here! 😅
Colour - dusky pink
Material - not satin
Size range 8-12
But...

Length?
Cut?
Sleeved?
Non sleeved?
Tighter fit?

YOUR dress style?!

CalleOcho · 09/04/2025 23:08

The colour is gorgeous.

However, the bust is awful. There’s no support at all. The material looks quite cheap too.

StartAnew · 09/04/2025 23:09

Hardly anyone would look good in that dress. The material is thin and shows every bump, and the top doesn't offer enough support. It's also a strange colour on my monitor, but perhaps better in real life. Really the colour needs to suit the skin tone of the person wearing it, not the theme of the wedding.

Froum · 09/04/2025 23:11

I don’t really understand why people are being catty.

Im receptive to feedback. I’m not professing to be a fashionista by any means. But I know what I like. Trying my best here🤷

I like a dusty pink mushroom colour. Hoping to find a dress I like in that colour. Prefer more streamlined /simple silhouettes. Nothing too floaty.

Men are in very simple navy suits.

But all my bridesmaids are slim

If your bridesmaids are slim and fairly busty they could be fine but I think they are a bit too slip like, really depends on the body shapes, most bodies would need good shape wear with these dresses

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 09/04/2025 23:13

I’m shopping for bridesmaid dresses at the moment and can say that both in store and online, satin is not the only option. If it’s the only style you want, be honest and say that, but don’t expect your bridesmaids to be happy in the bias cut numbers you’ve picked out.

It’s your day, you have a vision, but unless you fancy having bridesmaids with faces like slapped arses on the day coz they’re uncomfortable in their dresses, take them on the journey with you! Go to shops, try things on, be flexible on style and material and you’ll be surprised at how it will come together. You can always buy online after you find the right style if bridal shops are cost prohibitive.

edited to add - you’re being honest about what you like, but you aren’t wearing the dresses. This is what I mean by it’s your day, you have a vision, but you’re not wearing them!

AncientAndModern1 · 09/04/2025 23:13

My daughters have been bridesmaids several times in the last few years and they don’t mind wearing satin at all. But they have chosen their own style from the bride’s colour scheme. Having non-matching bridesmaids is smart, on trend and thoughtful. They are given a website and colour and told to order the styles they fancy, choose what they like and send the bride the bill. .

murasaki · 09/04/2025 23:16

I don't think pointing out that you can't make them fake tan is catty. There are lots of dresses in your colour palette out there , several suggested above.

For what it's worth, I really like the colour. But the dress was God-awful.

FKAT · 09/04/2025 23:16

I'd offer the bridesmaids simple navy suits. It would look great.

Topsyturvy78 · 09/04/2025 23:16

I don't like it even on the slimmer model it doesn't look right. I like some of the others in the thread gallery.

AliceMcK · 09/04/2025 23:17

No, as someone with curves I’d absolutely hate that, it would cling to every bump and lump. I’d also never get my boobs in it. Even if I was a size 8 my chest would be too big.

im not sure if the model has a “bra thing going on” rather her breast are not perfectly equal, like many women.

Best advise I got when bridesmaid shopping was go for a dress that your largest bridesmaid would suit and be comfortable in. If you find that then usually the dress fill fit and look good on the others.
