Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

“Or let your bridesmaids pick within a colour scheme and length, so they'll be happy and it'll look more fresh.”

This. I’ve been to weddings where this looked so nice and much more classy than dressing them all in cheap matchy matchy unflattering dresses. You consolidate the look and the colour scheme with them all holding the same type of bouquet. It also looks like you’ve treated them like respected adults at a joyful event rather than coerced them into some tragic handmaid uniform.

Pretty awful dress. You asked people’s opinion, you get it.

TwinklyNight · 09/04/2025 22:50

Poppy's dress was the nicest!

Love this one, definitely the best one

@Froum … your dress?

Have you asked the bridesmaids?

I suspect she has and they said it was unflattering - hence the thread hoping to over turn their objections.
OP is ignoring all the links to BM dresses that aren't satin and repeating that it's the only option. Bias cut satin is wildly unflattering, shows every lump, bump and knickers line and doesn't even look good on the model but it's obvious what she wants and she wants to railroad her bm's who have probably tried kindly and gently to push back.

Ah.. makes sense.

I think your problem is that the dress you want doesn’t exist, maybe chill out a bit.

I think it looks nice on the plus size model.

You can't honestly look at that picture and think it suits the model - she looks awful

Her boobs are not supported - the dress looks too clingy -
I'd be gobsmacked if anyone bought that dress who was plus sized. (Its almost like a warning)

Any amount of bridesmaid dresses on there in different styles and colours 100% better than the satin you think is only available...to give you some ideas

Agree. Matching dresses is passe’ and tacky. They aren’t chorus girls.

Better?

I don’t want anything matronly

This one is much better. Bonus points that they can wear a bra with this one and shape wear if they have an area of concern.

Lindolander · 09/04/2025 22:55

It looks like a nightie. The material doesn't flatter any figure

CautiousLurker01 · 09/04/2025 22:55

PinkiOcelot · 09/04/2025 22:05

It looks like a nightie.

This. A nighty from Primark, in fact. There is no way I’d inflict this on a friend.

I get that you may be looking for simple and chic, but there are lots of options in at Next, Monsoon etc that are quite reasonably priced, great cuts/fabric that the bridesmaids might actually re-wear (perhaps after dyeing).

Dogaredabomb · 09/04/2025 22:55

Ve vant to see your dress

WilfredsPies · 09/04/2025 22:55

I’m not really understanding why you can’t take them shopping and get them to try some different styles on? You can worry about colours after you’ve chosen a dress that won’t make them look and feel like an over ripe damson fruit.

Thisisittheapocalypse · 09/04/2025 22:55

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:36

I love this colour. 2 bridesmaids (cousins) are half Indian and it would look amazing on them. I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

Hilarious ... fake tan? Really?

Do you actually like your friends? Or is this about a photo shoot PR campaign?

STEP AWAY FROM THE SATIN FGS!

This is just the same dress as the first one but with fluttery sleeves (incidentally the sleeves are the nicest part of the dress). Still horribly flammable and dodgy bust shaping/ pelvic bone and knicker line skimming.

Whatwouldnanado · 09/04/2025 22:56

I think it’s awful . What do the bridesmaids think? Perhaps find other options and discuss with them. They

Alwaystryhard · 09/04/2025 22:57

The original dress looks like a nightdress to me.
And the alternative ones you have posted just don't look like bridesmaid dresses to me. Just pretty standard evening dresses.
I don't think I understand the " look " you are going for in that none of them seem suitable for the occasion.
