Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

Bear in mind the model has got a terrible bra situation going on

I also think the dress colour doesn't really work too well with most skin tones. An insufficient contrast on pale or tanned skin tones

RosesAndHellebores · 09/04/2025 23:20

The dress brunchbarbandit posted is nice but shoulders would need to be covered imo.

The blue dress with sleeves that you posted is nice.

Why are the groom and ushers wearing navy suits? And why are you suggesting fake tans?

APocketFullOfRye · 09/04/2025 23:21

FKAT · 09/04/2025 23:16

I'd offer the bridesmaids simple navy suits. It would look great.

Ooo
That sounds exciting !

Wellretired · 09/04/2025 23:24

Definitely no. Speaking as someone plus size. It will show my belly. But for everyone it would show your underwear lines.

Eblackdog · 09/04/2025 23:24

I was made to wear a dress like this as a bridesmaid last year. It looked awful on me as a size 12

EasterOnTheHorizon · 09/04/2025 23:26

PinkiOcelot · 09/04/2025 22:05

It looks like a nightie.

My first thought too! It’s giving lingerie/nightdress vibes. Also it’s going to cling to the slightest bumps, lumps or underwear lines.
Colour is going to ‘wash out’ pale skins.

PoundlandColumbo · 09/04/2025 23:26

Why do you care what your bridesmaids are wearing? I wouldn't give a monkeys. Honestly, the amount of time and energy people waste agonising over trivial things never fails to astonish me.

Let them choose something they like. Put your energy into choosing what you'll wear.

Smallsalt · 09/04/2025 23:28

Satiny material shows every lump and bump even on slim people. It would need shapewear and the lines from the shapewear would show up too.
Looks like a cheap nighty.

lifeonmars100 · 09/04/2025 23:28

looks like an old fashioned nigthtie, sorry but I don't like the cut, the colour or the fabric. It's the sort of look that only the very slender can carry off and even then it would not be flattering

I don’t really understand why people are being catty.

Im receptive to feedback. I’m not professing to be a fashionista by any means. But I know what I like. Trying my best here🤷

I like a dusty pink mushroom colour. Hoping to find a dress I like in that colour. Prefer more streamlined /simple silhouettes. Nothing too floaty.

Men are in very simple navy suits.

Because you’re ignoring questions?

What do your bridesmaids think?

What sort of style is your dress? And what size are you?

“Or let your bridesmaids pick within a colour scheme and length, so they'll be happy and it'll look more fresh.”

This. I’ve been to weddings where this looked so nice and much more classy than dressing them all in cheap matchy matchy unflattering dresses. You consolidate the look and the colour scheme with them all holding the same type of bouquet. It also looks like you’ve treated them like respected adults at a joyful event rather than coerced them into some tragic handmaid uniform.

This was how it was done at the last wedding I went to, it looked amazing as every bridesmaid was dressed in something that suited her. There was a colour theme which tied the overall theme together and they all looked happy and confident.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 09/04/2025 23:33

Even on the slim model it looks like a cheap nightie or underskirt.

Stravaig · 09/04/2025 23:33

All your choices look like négligées, which is a difficult style to pull off, even in the most luxurious fabrics, with a perfect figure, if you like wearing revealing clothing for formal public events. Plus, it's an awful colour for almost everyone.

Your 'scheme' must be for your bridesmaids to look terrible and mostly naked in a bad 80's sleepover fantasy?

CountryMumof4 · 09/04/2025 23:35

I've had to wear a couple of absolutely hideous bridesmaid dresses in my time, so much so that I gave my bridesmaids free reign about what they wore. I had a colour theme in mind and asked them to send me links for the dresses they felt comfortable wearing. They were all happy with what they wore on the day as they got to choose. I covered those, their hair and make up and they looked stunning. No demands on hair colour, length, tan etc - I just think that's completely out of order.

Consult with your bridesmaids - they're the ones that have to wear it and have to be photographed with you on the day.

Unwittinglyhappy · 09/04/2025 23:36

Bias cut and satin, just about impossible to wear.

I'm a tiny size 6 with a D cup and look awful in bias cut skirts and dresses.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/04/2025 23:39

Satin is the worst and most unforgiving fabric you could choose. The alternative dress that someone has suggested upthread is much better.

MumWifeOther · 09/04/2025 23:40

This wouldn’t suit me and the colour would wash many out. I think if you’re slim or have good control underwear it might work, but if you’re curvy then no. Personally, I love when bridesmaids all wear slightly different dresses to suit their shape / personality, but in the same colour.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 09/04/2025 23:41

I've worn this as a curvy, toned, tall size 14 at a work do in a darker shade, but the pink would work for bridesmaids.

Whooowhooohoo · 09/04/2025 23:42

Satin finish in that pink will highlight pants, thong, bra, any slight bump and will look grim after few hours anyway. Take girls to try it on,

Poppyseeds79 · 09/04/2025 23:43

The problem with the style/material you want OP is that it'll hang terribly on most people...

This model is stunning, and it still resembles a crumpled potato sack on her.

RampantIvy · 09/04/2025 23:44

The way the OP writes about her "colour scheme" makes her sound like the Instagram effect is more important to her than just getting married.

beadystar · 09/04/2025 23:46

The colour is ok but that neckline is going to make all boob types look weird. I'm a busty, toned, 8-10 and I'd look saggy-boobed and lumpy in that. It's a bit like a nightie. Satin isn't very friendly.
I was at a wedding where the three bridesmaids had quite different body types. They'd picked a uniform colour and material but each of them wore a different style of dress that suited them, that they could also wear again. They looked great.
