Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

bridesmaid dresses are all bloody satin right now

Find dresses that aren't "bridesmaid" ones then. Cheap satin looks awful.

Then look at dresses not marketed as bridesmaid dresses.

ifionlyhadacat · 09/04/2025 22:44

Sorry it looks like a cheap and unflattering nightie

Poppyseeds79 · 09/04/2025 22:44

What's the inspo you've been looking at OP? And what style dress do you have? It's far easier to complement the brides style vs us fishing in the dark 😅

Yes, @Froum what style is your dress?

was this inspired by the recent thread about whether you'd go shopping in your pyjamas?

I was thinking the same 😂!
Be a bridesmaid in your nightie!

But all my bridesmaids are slim

I got material like this for all my bridesmaids who were all very slim. They hated it said it was unflattering etc. I’m much larger and assumed it would be more than fine. They looked sensational but I found out later from my DGM that they weren’t happy with them due to that exact fit on the bottom side

Shouldn’t you be asking your bridesmaids?

CrackSpackle · 09/04/2025 22:46

Dear god that’s REALLY not a flattering dress. Even on someone slimmer it’s an ugly design.

TwinklyNight · 09/04/2025 22:46

What is your dress like? Can your bm's wear white? That always looks beautiful. Flowers in shades of dusty rose. I'd suggest navy but you have a dusty rose theme.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:33

I’m not a lover of satin as I think it’s been done to death. But it’s the main style available right now.

OP you've asked for opinions. You have the result. According to this sample of people, every one of them with the same view, this would be the thoughts of everyone attending your wedding. Would you really like this to be the majority opinion of the bridesmaids dresses on your special day. FWIW floaty dresses are not in the least bit dated as has been proven here.

Me too

@Froum
about five or so on here hav given positive comments on @Poppyseeds79 suggestion
Any thoughts OP

RaininSummer · 09/04/2025 22:47

Sorry but I think it looks like a badly fitting nightdress and your slim bridesmaids may hate it

Digdongdoo · 09/04/2025 22:47

If you must do satin, at least go for a well cut heavy fabric. Cheap satin clings to everything. And please don't pick a colour that won't suit half your bridesmaids. There's plenty of colours that work for everyone.

Viviennemary · 09/04/2025 22:47

Looks ill-fitting and cut too low. Makes woman look pregnant.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/04/2025 22:47

It looks like a cheap nightie. But if you want your bridesmaids to look shit then go for it!

Hercisback1 · 09/04/2025 22:47

I'd walk if you told me to fake tan!

People have linked to plenty of non satin dresses.

Heronwatcher · 09/04/2025 22:48

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:42

all the bridesmaids have faked tanned at one point or another. I recognise my preferred colours won’t necessarily suit very pale skin

I fake tanned in my 20s, no bloody way would I do it now, especially to brown up to appease a bridezilla who’s chosen an ugly dress. I looked ridiculous, it made me feel uncomfortable and I am deeply suspicious of the chemicals.

Incidentally all of these pink/ mauve colours would look fine on slightly paler skin. Apart from that awful grey one where they would look like bridesmaid-of-morticia. It’s the horrible satin that’s the issue.

Just give them a basic colour palette and budget and let them choose their own.

Dear mumsnet

im a size 10, I’m not huge, but like many women I have insecurities about various spots on my body. My dear friend is getting married soon and I am so excited to be a bridesmaid, except for one thing. Every bridesmaid dress she is considering has unyielding fabric pulled firmly around the female form. Doesn’t she realize that those kind of dresses are hit and miss and you have to find just the perfect one for you? Even with spanx, I’m going to feel like a stuffed sausage all day and night. Plus, I was looking forward to partying. Instead I’m going to be stuffing myself into the tightest foundation garments I can find and be ready to call it a night as soon as I can make an excuse to get out of them.

I love my friend, and I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but I really don’t want to be uncomfortable all day. What do I do?

Dear Self Conscious Bridesmaid

What you need to do my dear is have a spray tan, strap your tits down and get into the mauve nightie. Don't stand near the electric fire.

Can’t get over asking your bridesmaids to self tan…!

FleurDeFleur · 09/04/2025 22:48

Hayley1256 · 09/04/2025 22:40

Your going to ask them to fake tan 😅 I hope one of your bridesmaids make their own thread

Dear lord this just gets worse.

itsobviousright · 09/04/2025 22:49

As a wedding photographer, I can tell you that this style of dress photographs terribly
