Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

I think the one you've posted is perfectly nice op, it just doesn't look good on the plus size model as it accentuates her tummy and she's not wearing a bra (it looks like). You need to order them and get them to try them on, but honestly there's nothing wrong with them - people love to say how awful the OP's choice is on here and then post even worse offerings!

TwoShades1 · 10/04/2025 10:16

I don’t think it’s a particularly nice dress for any body size or shape. The wider straps and details around the bust give me a nightgown vibe. And that fabric will be unflattering, it will need some very good smoothing undergarments even if your slim.

starfishmummy · 10/04/2025 10:19

Its awful. Will show uo every bump, bloated tummy and lines from any underwear they happen to be wearing. And potentially creasing from when they sit down?

Definitely looks like a nightdress.

Satin is a bugger for grease and oil stains.

And sweat patches!

tealandteal · 10/04/2025 10:28

Have you tried searching for a dress in cream or white and investigating dying it? Alternatively finding a dress in the colour you like and having it altered- that way sleeves etc are less of an issue.

Jasmin71 · 10/04/2025 10:45

That dress is not flattering at all. It looks like a nightie

ZenNudist · 10/04/2025 10:51

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:21

So this is the only other dress I have found that I like. But will it look weird cause the groom and groomsmen have gone for navy suits

I like these blue dresses but it's a far cry from the mauve you like which I agree is a lovely colour. There must be better options as I can't see the dress in you IP looking good on anyone except Kate Moss c1994.

On the maive dress The bust makes each tit look different sizes! Big and small alike. The fabric around the tummy is really unforgiving and I think you will need to spring for spanx for all your BM. It looks cheap.

The blue is nice. I like the sleeves, very BM dress though!

I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

😂 Dear god.

Has to be satire at this point surely

localnotail · 10/04/2025 11:05

Hi OP, sorry but I would find something else - in my experience this fabric/ style shows off every little lump, very unflattering and also creases a lot when you sit. And looks like a nighty.

Also, as others said - awful bust design, would look horrible if you have small breasts.

Terrythefish · 10/04/2025 11:11

FionnulaTheCooler · 09/04/2025 22:03

I don't like it personally, that fabric and cut is very unforgiving of any lumps and bumps that you might wish to conceal.

This. I am a size 6-8 and I would just refuse to wear that. I would rather bow out of being a bridesmaid. I would look dreadful in that dress.

DurbevillesGirl2 · 10/04/2025 11:19

That would look terrible on my saggier, bigger bust and doesn’t allow for a bra! Also the material is unforgiving for hip dips.

Same!

EscapeTheCastle · 10/04/2025 11:20

You need to go to a shop and try stuff on.
You cant trust web images for fashion anymore. Those dresses have been photoshopped to make cheap fabric look passable.

BelfastBard · 10/04/2025 11:23

I don’t think it’s particularly flattering on any of the models. The colour is nice but it looks like an M&S nightie to me.

This. I said the same upthread. Come off the internet, go to a reputable shop like John Lewis, or similar, and get some serious trying on.

Babyboomtastic · 10/04/2025 11:28

You could save some money and go for these instead. They are slightly more flattering, and the flowers match your colour scheme.

They are only £32 because they are M&S nightwear.

I like this one.

JustSawJohnny · 10/04/2025 12:07

That fabric is very unforgiving and shows every little mark. The bra situation will be difficult as every line will show.

If it rains on the way into the church, your bridesmaids will be covered in much darker spots.

Alternative pic posted above with less silky material would be much better, I think. Just generally easier and more comfortable.

I agree with this.

Some of my very thin friends are not body confident at all and would worry about things like their hip bones showing or the bust being too baggy.

I mean, I'd give anything to find a hip bone, but regardless, that fabric is hideously unforgiving on EVERYONE!

What OP needs to remember is that the images, even the plus size one, will have been touched up.

Best to try on dresses and see how bridesmaids feel. It's a long day to be in a dress and bridesmaids often get lumbered with a bit of the running around and lift work (picking up the train, helping bride out of car, helping out any children in the bridal party etc) - the priority should be their comfort.

Aparecium · 10/04/2025 12:21

It looks like a nightie.

katepilar · 10/04/2025 12:31

Looks absolutely awful on the larger model.

MellowCritic · 10/04/2025 12:44

You need to get your girls to try the dresses on. We can't give you honest opinion based on the pics and take into consideration the bra situation. 🤦‍♀️

user2848502016 · 10/04/2025 12:55

It’s awful sorry! Very unforgiving. I wouldn’t have wanted to wear that even when I was a size 8 youngster

7yo7yo · 10/04/2025 13:01

Horrid dress and not keen on the colour.
do you hate your bridesmaids?

katepilar · 10/04/2025 13:03

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:08

I’m really struggling to find this shade of dress. I need this tan mauve colour to match my scheme. Gahhh

If its the colour you are after, it will be difficult to match via online search anyway.
