Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

No, that would be my worst nightmare of a bridsmaid dress! It looks like a nighty, and would cling in all the wrong places, the fabric is a pain for anyone, slim or plus sized. If you want to flatter all of them go for something with either slightly more form, or chiffon and floaty, straight cut across the chest - not V'd as different bust sizes and locations make it hell to deal with!!

EdithBond · 10/04/2025 09:16

The other problem with satin is it really shows up any minor stain: makeup, drips of drink (even water), sweat. So, puts bridesmaids under pressure all day and eve to avoid ending up looking a mess.

Satin hangs much better when lined or double-layered to avoid clinginess.

IMHO well-cut dresses from a higher end chain store (LK Bennett, Reiss, Hobbs) or TK Maxx could look just as good as a those bought from a bridal specialist or made-to-measure. And likely a similar price?

FastFood · 10/04/2025 09:18

If I had to wear a satin dress and fake tan to match the groom and bride, I would probably come down with a bad case of diarrhea / pneumonia / leprosy / bubonic plague on the day of the wedding.

FateReset · 10/04/2025 09:18

That is very unflattering no matter what size they are! Might look better with a good bra and spanx. But the material is oddly cut and clings to wrong places, and the under bust line makes it look like maternity wear.

Cloudyvibes · 10/04/2025 09:19

Out of all the dresses out there this is definitely one of the worst for a bridesmaid. i personally feel it looks like a silk nightie that women use to wear on their wedding night. Material looks awful also.

whatapalarva · 10/04/2025 09:20

I'm slim and would personally hate it. From the front looks ok but when you walk, the view from the back would be all wobbly and unforgiving. would be able to see exactly what underwear you have on and people would be watching the wobbly bums not the bride! Not keen on the colour either. Sorry OP, back to the drawing board?!

GeorgeMichaelsMicStand · 10/04/2025 09:22

Those bias cut satin dresses show every lump bump and are supremely unflattering. Sorry x

Cloudyvibes · 10/04/2025 09:23

just seen your comment about asking them to fake tan! I would never fake take I am pale and happy thanks!
Just because they may have tried fake tan in the past doesn’t mean they are happy to do it now! Dare I say it but yes Bridezilla springs to mind!

Neveranynamesleft · 10/04/2025 09:25

Do not fake tan. Goes patchy and will look awful on photos. Accept people for the colour that they are !

GroovyChick87 · 10/04/2025 09:25

No I don't think it flatters anyone who is not perfectly slim and toned. Sleeveless tops and dresses make people look larger too.

Alwaysinamood · 10/04/2025 09:30

I like it!!!

GivingUpFinally · 10/04/2025 09:38

I love the colour op. I think it can work n paler skin tones as well with the right make up and attitude. Attitude and demeanour make the outfit, pretty much always.

BUT! I think a dusty antique rose and navy won't work together. Very bizarre colour scheme. If using navy, I'd go for a burnt orange or orange tones to compliment the blue. Use your colour wheel!

I also think you're getting a bit of a hard time here. Alot of women are definitely projecting.

Maybe give your colours to your bridesmaids and see what they come back with? Might get some very valuable input from the ladies who will actually be wearing the dresses.

Good luck and congratulations.

I don't mind the original dress, I think it depends on how the bridesmaids feel about it. What I'd do is filter by mauve/dark mauve on this site and then send to bridesmaids with your preference (simple, not too floaty) and ask if they can give their preferences: https://www.birdygrey.com/collections/bridesmaid-dresses#/filter:tagscolorrbar:dark$2520mauve/filter:tagscolorrbar:mauve

Then work from there. It'll look much better if all the bridesmaids feel happy and confident. They may have preferences particularly on what type of bra they can wear.

FWIW, I do like the colour and it's suit me.

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 10/04/2025 09:45

agree looks like a nightie looks cheap like something you would get from a budget shop like Primark or place like Shein nasty colour too ,make most look washed out material like that would show every mark you would end up having hysterics about grease make up etc on them pre ceremony. would show all lumps and bumps skinny or not people have bones nipples etc

Serendipetty · 10/04/2025 09:45

PinkiOcelot · 09/04/2025 22:05

It looks like a nightie.

I actually like it BUT I have a nightie that is almost identical to it! Same colour and length, I'll have to dig it out to compare fully

MerlinsBeard1 · 10/04/2025 09:51

This must be a joke surely? It is absolutely appalling!

The only person that is flattering is a size 8 supermodel.

I'd just outright refuse to wear that as a size 12 woman.

Stravaig · 10/04/2025 09:52

I can't even engage with asking people to fake tan. How is changing skin colour ever an acceptable expectation? See also all those 'dark spot' skin treatments that are everywhere this past decade.

The pigment of my skin is exactly the random patchwork of freckles and splotches of pigment and sun spots and moles and weathering it naturally chooses to be. I really thought we were past believing there is one perfect skin tone. Or at least pretending to be.

Welshwhales · 10/04/2025 09:55

That material will crease and mark really easily .

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 10/04/2025 09:55

It isn't a good look on the model in the picture, @Froum

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 10/04/2025 10:04

God. That’s awful. Do you not like your bridesmaids?

madaboutpurple · 10/04/2025 10:09

I am sure you could find better. It shows a lot boob wise. If I was your bridesmaid I would be asking for a dress that was not so revealing.

madaboutpurple · 10/04/2025 10:12

Why not give your bridesmaids a few colour ranges and let them choose their own dress. ?
