Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

Dear god, no! Please. So unfair on the plus size person.

Apologies, I misread the OP. Altho' as this is figure hugging, I'd ask them if they were happy with it.

The colour is really drab for any skin tone as well

Colour would be perfect for me. ( I'm a soft autumn). Very difficult dress to wear, will show every lump, bump. Gonna need scaffolding type underwear to look and feel good.

I also think it has a nightie vibe about it.

Fridgetapas · 10/04/2025 07:39

Think you’ve had a bit of a hard time from people OP I totally get the look you want I think. Something not frumpy, swishy, chiffon and just looks dated.
I had some chiffon monstrosity similar to lots of the ones posted as alternatives here 😅 my sister put me in it and I just felt soooo frumpy all day when I wanted something chic and more modern.
That silky more form fitted look is in now but I think if done cheaply it can look bad so maybe keep looking with your bridesmaids for something that is a bit more flattering around the bust and tummy. I would struggle with the first you posted as feel it would really emphasise my tummy as it’s just straight down.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/04/2025 07:43

Just trying for a similar colour…. This looks a bit much. But you can modify it. Sew in straps or even buy an extra dress and add straps in the same fabric. https://clubllondon.com/products/edel-pink-satin-strapless-maxi-dress-with-drape-cl135154304…

This website has loads in a similar colour. This dress is along the lines of the one you chose, but nicer imo. Edit to add correct link - https://www.azazie.com/gb/products/azazie-denice-rosette-sheath-pleated-stretch-satin-floor-length-bridesmaid-dress/36228287?q=bridesmaid%20dresses

Fridgetapas · 10/04/2025 07:44

Oh sorry I meant to add try the Azazie website

ILoveLeopard245 · 10/04/2025 07:45

I think the colour is OK- boring, but inoffensive. The dress style- in my opinion- isn’t very flattering on anybody. It reminds me of a nightie. Personally if I were presented with that to wear, I would turn down being a bridesmaid and just try and support from the sidelines.

Streaaa · 10/04/2025 07:46

Pipsquiggle · 10/04/2025 07:32

Please don't go for the nightie look. It will look awful even if your bridesmaids are thin, it will show every lump and bump even if they're wearing spanx

Yes it looks like a nightie first glance.

2021x · 10/04/2025 07:47

Its a lovely dress they can wear a body suit under it just make sure you leave the budget for it to be tailored to their height.

FleurDeFleur · 10/04/2025 07:48

Maybe stop going on websites. Decide on a budget per woman. Go to a good shop eg John Lewis. Go for reputable labels. Get the BMs to try on various styles, not necessarily "bridesmaid" dresses.

I love this colour. 2 bridesmaids (cousins) are half Indian and it would look amazing on them. I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

This colour is actually awful for mixed race skin colour. It's too muddy, and I speak from experience.🙂

Summerbaby333 · 10/04/2025 07:51

Agree that Azazie seems to have a good number of dusty mauve options. Otherwise maids to measure and sisterhood are nice options although their colour schemes are more dusty pink

i have your bridesmaids physique and I wouldn’t be a fan of your original dress choice sorry, there are so many better cuts out there - also why not select a colour/brand and let them choose the individual cut? I always think that looks really good

CurlewKate · 10/04/2025 07:51

To be honest, I think it’s unflattering for a human being, bridesmaid or not…..

Mumof2girls2121 · 10/04/2025 07:55

No it’s not flattering at all on either

This company is very flexible - there are multiple colours (including the ashes of roses you like, though that isn't the thumbnail image) and fabric options from chiffon, satin, matt satin and mesh. Very reasonable prices too. Plus the "you may also like" array is really helpful showing a range of other options in the preferred colour and fabric.

Minikievs · 10/04/2025 08:03

Shatandfattered · 09/04/2025 22:04

Absolutely not. That dress is made for an A or less cup i can imagine it on someone a size 4 but its not flattering at all

I completely disagree. I have an A cup (saggy A cup at that 🙄) and I avoid this kind of dress like the plague. The cups will be empty and deflated and wrinkly on me, making me look even more flat chested than I am. If that’s possible

I know what you mean, I just think it's not a flattering fabric or cut for any woman.

Pipsquiggle · 10/04/2025 08:04

I have been bridesmaid 6 times. This style was the most flattering for all the different body shapes involved (all the same sizes as your bridesmaids). TBH shape is more important than size IMO.
I think this is the type of colour your after, there are loads of others.

That dress is lovely and an available in so many colours.

Riverswims · 10/04/2025 08:09

like an Elastoplast. not flattering to make presumably your friends wear in public

Your bridesmaids must be remarkably tolerant women. I would refuse point blank to use fake tan or wear that dress in any size.

Namechange739 · 10/04/2025 08:21

As a size 12 I’d be mortified at having to wear this. You’d have to be extremely slim to pull this off. It would show every lump and bump. It would also be hard to find a bra it worked with.

Posh nightie was what I was going to say.

I do see what you mean about not the flouncy type of dress @Froum
