Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

I have a nightdress that looks so much like that, in colour and style, though in non shiny fabric. M & S a few years ago ? A favourite. I really don’t think the bridesmaid version would suit many shapes or sizes, it just too tricky around the bust.

sweetpickle2 · 09/04/2025 22:05

Why have you shown it on a plus size model if none of your bridesmaids are plus size?

And the dress is available in regular sizes. Feels a bit 'fat shaming' .

the dress is awful, not sure why the OP would even consider it as an option.

Sunnyperiods · 10/04/2025 02:37

The last one you posted was lovely OP, and I can’t see a problem with the fake tanning if your bridesmaids are happy with that.

Tbrh · 10/04/2025 02:40

The problem with that kind of material is its very unforgiving despite how good or bad you look, the colour doesn't help either. I'm sure it would look much better in a dark blue or green.

Dogaredabomb · 10/04/2025 02:47

I like the colour

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 10/04/2025 03:15

You can’t ask your bridesmaids to fake tan, that’s really weird and something that should be their choice. If you do then I hope you’re paying for it.

Notashamed13 · 10/04/2025 03:37

Ye gods!.......bloody awful, sorry OP

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 10/04/2025 03:53

Honestly the colour is my main concern. It’s pretty much universally unflattering. Expecting bridesmaids to fake tan is not reasonable: they have lives outside your wedding, for one. Would you consider jewel tones which would flatter most skin tones? I also don’t think this colour works with groomsmen in navy.

HoppingPavlova · 10/04/2025 05:17

I think it looks nice on the plus size model

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but a lot of people wouldn’t think that. Basically unless someone is a tall supermodel, it’s going to be unflattering as it shows every single little bump. Them there’s the problem that the vast majority of supermodels- talk, extremely thin - have zero bust, whereas this dress basically needs someone to have Barbie proportions.

That’s completely aside from the fact you will have many people wondering why your bridesmaids are wearing nighties.

WordleAway · 10/04/2025 06:11

It’s a no from me. That cut and colour are really unflattering regardless of your shape or size. Looks like a night dress.

Evaka · 10/04/2025 06:15

I think that's a tough style to pull off OP, particularly in the boob/bra department. Agree it's a pretty style but unless lined and a really quality fabric it will likely cling and be a bit uncomfortable to wear x

Neemie · 10/04/2025 06:44

It is cheap looking and ugly. They aren’t even genuine images. It is photoshopped onto pictures of different sized models. They have identically weird hips and the top of the dress isn’t the same on both sides because it has been badly photoshopped. The colour wouldn’t suit many people either.

Marshbird · 10/04/2025 06:55

Also colour, absolutely horrible on most people. It looks cheap, too clingy, looks like nightie, and very exposing
i would refuse to be brides made if told to wear thst.

Musicalitymum · 10/04/2025 06:56

Worst bridesmaid dress I’ve ever seen! Get them a different style. Even if it looks half decent on the model, it won’t look good on a size 12.

Watermill · 10/04/2025 07:00

I’m a size 12 and there’s no way I would wear a dress I couldn’t wear a bra with, even in my twenties.

Your taste appears to be quite cheap and booby.

Could you choose a colour and let each BM choose her own dress?

VaguelyDownwards · 10/04/2025 07:00

I'm a fairly toned size 6/8 and I would HATE being made to wear that dress.

It's the sort of fabric that clings and reveals. I would feel really self conscious wearing that all day.

Much better dresses you could choose.

VaguelyDownwards · 10/04/2025 07:01

@Watermill that's what I did for my wedding. I just let my bridesmaids wear what they were happy in.

curtaintwitcher78 · 10/04/2025 07:04

Satin will show every goose pimple, every stitch in your knickers, everything. It is unforgiving. That bust line the way it gathers off to the sides doesn't flatter either model.
Can you not find at least a matte/chiffon material?

Dogaredabomb · 10/04/2025 07:07

Could your bridesmaids wear navy?

butterflycr · 10/04/2025 07:14

OP where are you shopping out of interest?

All the dresses you are posting look quite cheap and unflattering.

It's not that you can't find nice dresses for lower costs, but if you're on a site like Shein trying to get a bargain, that might be a big part of your problem.

SnugMintFawn · 10/04/2025 07:17

Some of the responses on here are actually savage!

I think the colour is lovely - honestly, I agree the material of the dress doesn’t look like it would be particularly flattering, but I would talk to your bridesmaids - tell them you’ve had mixed reactions to the dress and you want their honest feedback! If they don’t like it, don’t make them wear it, but ask them to help you find something you’re all happy with.

Wedding planning is stressful! 💐

MidLifeMayhem · 10/04/2025 07:24

I purchased a similar style dress for an evening event, in black when I was a size 8. I returned it. Like others have said it does not flatter at all, It gave me bumps and lumps I didn’t think I had!

AngelinaFibres · 10/04/2025 07:30

APocketFullOfRye · 09/04/2025 22:32

No No No No

Try looking for a different fabric that doesn’t shine out every bone and bit of skin. The odd dash of good old cellulite will be on full show in that dress.

not everyone has a backside like Kates sister

Edited

Also. Shape wear will show under that so they'll all feel forced to wear thongs which create weird V lines and also 'buttock wobble' because there's no cheek support. Is that what you want your guests to see as you all walk 'gracefully' down the aisle.

Froum · 09/04/2025 23:11

I don’t really understand why people are being catty.

Im receptive to feedback. I’m not professing to be a fashionista by any means. But I know what I like. Trying my best here🤷

I like a dusty pink mushroom colour. Hoping to find a dress I like in that colour. Prefer more streamlined /simple silhouettes. Nothing too floaty.

Men are in very simple navy suits.

Have you spoke to your bridesmaids? Are they comfortable with the styles you are picking?

They are your closest friends so know what you like and will have to wear it.

If the men are in navy you can literally have ANY colour.

Pipsquiggle · 10/04/2025 07:32

Please don't go for the nightie look. It will look awful even if your bridesmaids are thin, it will show every lump and bump even if they're wearing spanx
