Going out shopping in your pyjamas

AIBU to think it's lazy and slovenly?

OP posts:
TigerRag · 09/04/2025 11:42

I hate answering the door in my pyjamas. Can't imagine going to the shop in them

MaggieBsBoat · 09/04/2025 11:42

I don’t care how anyone dresses when they go shopping as long as they are clean (so not smelly) and not showing too many body parts or privates. Sometimes life is too short to get dressed. I use to go the cinema in my jimjams all the time. Fun.

Ironfist · 09/04/2025 11:43

I agree!

Differentstarts · 09/04/2025 11:45

I think it depends nipping to the corner shop for milk not to bad, doing a full weekly supermarket shop absolutely not

I even hate walking round the house or eating breakfast in my pyjamas! I don't know why, but it feels really slovenly to me. I think it's fine for other people to do that, but not to go out in them. I always get up, washed and dressed before anything else.

Needmorelego · 09/04/2025 11:47

Yawn !
This is one of those threads that happens every week.
What difference does it make to you if someone does this?
Why does it matter?
It's their life not yours.
Who cares?

lazyarse123 · 09/04/2025 11:48

Absolutely not. As someone who worked in a shop I have seen more random dicks sticking out of pyjamas than I ever wanted to. 🤢 As for skanky unwashed dressing gowns no thanks. It's grim.
It's a matter of respect for yourself and others.

100% agree. There is nothing more slovenly than lingering in your pjs. Grim. Why do people not think more of themselves? Why do they have such poor personal standards. It’s disgusting. If I saw someone sat next to me in the cinema in PJs I’d ask for a refund.

I beg to differ. Life is not too short to get dressed properly.

Define "properly" ?
Pjs are usually a top and trousers.
They are clothes.

I wouldn't even do that. The only time I'm in pyjamas/dressing gown is ready for bed, just up, or ill.

Coffeeishot · 09/04/2025 11:52

I don't think I've seen anybody shopping in their pyjamas since "Covid times" most people are dressed in outdoor clothes now.

BarneyRonson · 09/04/2025 11:52

Definitely scummy. Not behaviour I would condone. Such low standards indicate very poor mental wellness.

Properly means clothes appropriate for daytime.
Pyjamas are not a "top and trousers".
They are nightwear.

Needmorelego · 09/04/2025 11:53

@BarneyRonson Is it "scummy" if they are a clean and freshly ironed pair?

Lindolander · 09/04/2025 11:54

It looks slovenly and shows a lack of self-respect

Says who?
I generally don't sleep in Pjs.
I do however wear them in the daytime.

lunaswand · 09/04/2025 11:55

I love wearing pyjamas & will happily wear them all day but I would never ever leave the house in them

Needmorelego · 09/04/2025 11:56

I love a good anti-pyjamas thread 😂😂😂😂
These things always get so fun.
It's pieces of fabric people...... that's all.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/04/2025 11:56

It doesn't offend me in the slightest, I'd be concerned they were physically/mentally ok or not.

GroovyChick87 · 09/04/2025 11:56

I haven't seen anyone do it for a while though there's a woman near to me who walks her dog in pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers around 1pm. I hate the idea of it. I don't mind wearing pyjamas around the house if I'm home and not going back out again. I will often put on pj bottoms. But I would never get up and hang around in last night's pjs for ages without a bath. I don't think badly of anyone who does that, it's just my personal preference.

lovemyfreedom · 09/04/2025 12:03

I live in pjs if im indoors i have nipped to the shop in pjs and i really dont care what others think.

mondaytosunday · 09/04/2025 12:05

ThejoyofNC · 09/04/2025 12:07

To be honest my pyjamas are fat more decent than half the stuff I see people walking around in these days. And as for being unclean, plenty of stinkers about too. They've been worn to bed, probably cleaner than some people at the end of a work day.

These days men can wear skirts, people can dress as furry animals and god knows what to even call some of the outfits I've seen. It's funny how clothes are just clothes blah blah until it's nightwear, then they're suddenly shocking.
