To think Lucy Connolly has been made an example of?

1000 replies

SouthernFashionista · 06/04/2025 22:43

Have any of you read this article about Lucy Connolly who tweeted inflammatory comments following the Southport murders? I have to admit that at the time I was fully supportive of having her locked up, with the key thrown away. But reading this article made me view it all a little differently. Surely she has done her time?

We have the highest rate of incarceration in Western Europe. I see you're one of the lock em up and throw away the key brigade. You want us to build massive prisons with revolving doors and pay through the nose to house them all. Except racists, obvs.

Half the people in our prisons should be in mental health facilities (or at least should have been before they offended) but they just aren't there.

Erm….
How long did these guys serve in prison?

Sorry, it's a small blurry photo and I can't be certain but it looks like the demonstration outside the Danish Embassy back in 2006

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Islamist_demonstration_outside_the_Embassy_of_Denmark_in_London#Criminal_charges

There were some fairly hefty prison sentences handed down. See link above.

If I've got the wrong demonstration, please feel free to tell me which ones these are from.

Essentially, a smally blurry photo isn't great when you're asking for information about some people.

Hope this helps

On burning buildings where people are in, look at these vile misogynist chauvinist pigs planning to set a building alight and watch the women (witches) burn alive. There are more tweets out there from these violent TRAs but these are the two I have saved. The police on twitter were linked, the cowards put their twitter in protected mode, but as far as I know, they were never charged with incitement to violence! And they were actually planning to literally do it themselves! Two-tier is exactly right. Men get away with anything and everything, even literally planning to BURN WOMEN ALIVE in a building. For the mere crime of advocating for womens rights.

Why wouldn’t they be arrested for this? On that note the amount of violent threats against women online also gets very little attention let alone prison time.

TheGentleOpalMember · 07/04/2025 18:00

WongKarCry · 07/04/2025 17:53

Well no, it’s not about trans. It’s about people threatening to harm other people and only one group of them being arrested for basically the same crimes.

Why is it okay to, for example, go to a protest holding a sign saying “Decapitate TERFS” but not okay to say burn down the hotels?

They’re both equally despicable,no? But the government doesn’t seem to think so.

Well no, it’s not about trans. It’s about people threatening to harm other people

Exactly! And for some reason if you say the magic word 'trans', threatening to burn women alive is acceptable to these vile barbarians that excuse it.

I read it too and was shocked. I had no sympathy for her but the article made me reconsider. There was a a lot I hadn’t known about the case, including the death of her child, her job as a childminder and the perspectives of the parents of her charges. I think she should be let out. She has paid a heavy price for a moment of madness.

Lots of bad things happen to lots of people every day, sadly.

They somehow manage to summon up the self restraint not to break the law.

And really, aren't criminal sentences meant to set an example ? Pour encourager les autres.

Good luck in future threads xx

Yes hopefully you’ll learn from this that saying one thing while meaning something else can cause confusion and work on being clearer in future. 👍

That's from 2022. I don't think Starmer was PM then. Does anyone know who was?🤔

Yes, I’ve always been a leftie, but I’ve noticed an increasing number of people on the left think that their opinions are the only valid ones and nothing they do to defend those opinions is bad because they are the righteous ones. It’s madness and they’re just as bad as the people they’re railing against, but they can’t see it!

Set an example Grin. Are we all at school?

Sentences should he proportionate, this was not and of course people's circumstances should be taking into consideration.

Any recent examples of men doing prison time as the woman in the op for similar tweets?

I doubt the internet has been cleaned up since last year and they exist.

I doubt men have stopped being threatening online in that time.

I notice everyone is avoiding answering this because they can’t defend it and it makes the whole argument about two tier policing valid. I can imagine the outrage if white British people were waving signs saying kill Muslims but when they do it no one wants to comment.

I'm not avoiding answering. I don't know the answer. I can't remember individual cases from 2006.🤷‍♀️. Do you know?

The Danish embassy in London. Did you not read the link?

Do you know who the people are who you posted? Or did you just show some Islamic extremists with the aim of stirring up islamophobia?

This specimen got seven and a half years in January.

Eta: although he took part in disorder too, so that's why his sentence was much longer.

You really think the difference in policing has only existed since Starmer was in power? 🙄The prejudice and hatred of women in the police force pre-dates the last several governments.

Yeo successive governments have failed women in this regard. It’s only now the conservatives have started to change their tune, and it’s not because they actually care about women, is it?

I saw that time and thought it’d be for threats of violence against women.

I don’t think there’s been a link to prison time for that yet for a comparable case as the woman in the op. And most violent crimes are by men with women and girls suffering from it.

it’s a shame that more people aren’t as outraged as she was, while I do agree the tweet was too far it’s not worth a jail sentence and she’s right about mass deportation. It would have prevented the likes of the Southport stabbings had that boy and his parents been deported at the first sign of trouble....

Firstly, we can't deport citizens. Secondly, his parents were at their wits ends, trying to get help with him. Thirdly, we quite rightly don't punish relatives, who have committed no crimes.

And apart from anything else, they're of Rwandan origin, so quite what that has to do with mosques, Pakistanis, Syrians, Somalia etc is beyond me. Never mind the fact that the people being targeted had no involvement in the murders.

Pay wall, op

What did she say that was so awful?

Keir starmer loves locking people up with insane sentences tbh but i won't pick a side just yet

I live near one of the hotels that was set on fire. It was terrifying for those inside and the police trying to manage it. That was what she was encouraging. Her tweet was viewed by hundreds and thousands of people.
