To think Lucy Connolly has been made an example of?

Have any of you read this article about Lucy Connolly who tweeted inflammatory comments following the Southport murders? I have to admit that at the time I was fully supportive of having her locked up, with the key thrown away. But reading this article made me view it all a little differently. Surely she has done her time?

On burning buildings where people are in, look at these vile misogynist chauvinist pigs planning to set a building alight and watch the women (witches) burn alive. There are more tweets out there from these violent TRAs but these are the two I have saved. The police on twitter were linked, the cowards put their twitter in protected mode, but as far as I know, they were never charged with incitement to violence! And they were actually planning to literally do it themselves! Two-tier is exactly right. Men get away with anything and everything, even literally planning to BURN WOMEN ALIVE in a building. For the mere crime of advocating for womens rights.

I think she thoroughly deserves what she got. It was a clear-cut case of inciting racial hatred imo, and exacerbated by the fact that she did it at a time when tensions were running high.

And yet paedophiles walk free. If I were a judge I'd look at rehashing sentencing if literally all they could do was send a tweeter to prison for 31 months.

It's a shame MPs aren't doing something about our batshit sentencing rules instead of encouraging the police to chase tweeters.

Judges don’t set sentencing guidelines.

I don't think she intended for violence to happen; I think she was triggered and very upset. She soon calmed down and deleted it, and wrote that violence is not the answer. I think a fine and community service would have been better. However, what she did is officially an offence and punishable by jail time, and that's what happened. They threw the book at her to make an example of her and to provide a deterrent. A risk you take when you let your emotions get the better of you, I guess.

I want to live in a country where sex offenders are locked up and those posting offensive tweets are fined and/or are given community hours.

UK notoriously soft on criminals for years under the religion of liberalism (still are).

But finds its backbone for law and order under one act: to quell riots.

We have one of the highest rates of incarceration in Europe. Our prisons are bursting at the seams.

She did commit a crime but not all crimes deserve a prison sentence.

Where did I say she didn’t commit a crime?

The post I quoted (was it by you) said something along the lines of a person inciting others to commit a crime gets more of a sentence than someone who actually commits a crime. Which reads like you think she only incited others to commit a crime rather than actually committing a crime herself 🤷‍♀️

Than someone who commits a violent or sex crime.

Better?

My point still stands. That the post I quoted very much insinuated that she hadn’t committed a crime.

if you want to nit pick over quoting the full message of someone’s post I also clearly said that people who committed sex crimes and paedophiles should also receive prison sentences.

Better?

Erm….
How long did these guys serve in prison?

I notice everyone is avoiding answering this because they can’t defend it and it makes the whole argument about two tier policing valid. I can imagine the outrage if white British people were waving signs saying kill Muslims but when they do it no one wants to comment.

Europe in general is soft on crime. Or are low crime nations (I.e.Scandi countries until they imported loads of criminals).

That's some serious whataboutery, but a valiant effort to shoehorn trans people into the discussion!

Two groups of people threaten to kill another group.

One group are arrested, charged and imprisoned, the other are not.

It’s a direct comparison.

I’m not in the slightest bit upset. You’ve offered no understandable explanation.

your message said;

What does it say when child abusers, violent men and rapists walk free after being found guilty but people tweeting get prison time?
It says you’re better off actually committing crimes than threatening them.

so are you now saying that your message above did not mean that she only threatened a crime rather than actually committing a crime? Because that’s literally what you said. Maybe you meant that child abusers and rapists commit worse crimes…..and I’d agree with you…but that’s not what you said.

Catsarelovely · 07/04/2025 17:46

I don't think that you should be jailed for tweets. To get two years is ridiculous especially as there's been recent cases where pedophiles haven't been sentenced to any jail time.

EasternStandard · 07/04/2025 17:43

No, I’ve googled and can find media stories of people being arrested but no follow up of what happened when they got to court. So either it’s not been reported on, or they didn’t even get to court. I’d suspect if they’d been sent to prison it would have made the press so they probably didn’t go to prison.

Well that makes much more sense. Shame you didn’t say that first time round it would have been much clearer. 😁

We have the highest rate of incarceration in Western Europe. I see you're one of the lock em up and throw away the key brigade. You want us to build massive prisons with revolving doors and pay through the nose to house them all. Except racists, obvs.

It's not whataboutery at all, you are desperately deflecting! These men were actively planning to burn down a hotel with women in it. AND, why shoehorn 'trans people' into this yourself? It had nothing to do with trans?! The men plotting to burn women alive were not trans. And the meeting was about womens rights. Again, nothing to do with trans. But your desperate and flailing whataboutery is noted.

Well no, it’s not about trans. It’s about people threatening to harm other people and only one group of them being arrested for basically the same crimes.

Why is it okay to, for example, go to a protest holding a sign saying “Decapitate TERFS” but not okay to say burn down the hotels?

They’re both equally despicable,no? But the government doesn’t seem to think so.
