This Is 2 chest of drawers and one wardrobe. Is this excessive as Dh says or about right.

Too many t shirts
1 pair of jeans
1 pair of black trousers
A few sweaters and hoodies
Too many shorts
2 dresses

MagicalMystical · 07/04/2025 15:40

@LaurieFairyCake and her, frankly, small boutique’s worth of clothing wins the thread! 😆

TheGoogleMum · 07/04/2025 15:43

That's a lot!
I think you could manage just fine on half your tops, dresses, jeans and jumpers

MajorCarolDanvers · 07/04/2025 15:53

I’ve no idea what ‘home clothes’ are and I’ve never counted but more than you you.

I’ve at least 12 coats and umpteen hoodies.

The posted I was replying to was stating the total clothes she owned though.

Well maybe she has a work bloody uniform like the majority of people in healthcare, retail or hospitality. Not everyone is in an office doing 9-5 you know. Or is able to work in jeans and t shirt.

Roxie99 · 07/04/2025 15:57

I have way more than you and I'm trying to delete every section now as it's ridiculous and we are trying to move things into the loft into a smaller space and I have excessive clothing for sure

Commonsense22 · 07/04/2025 15:59

2 pairs of jeans
12 dresses
10 tops
2 pairs of trousers trousers
8 pairs of leggings
5 cardigans
1 jumper
1 hoodie
3 coats
2 jackets
3 pyjamas
3 swimming costumes
1 dressing gown
4 skirts

Some nearly 20 years old

Don't ask me how much dc have though...

PhilippaGeorgiou · 07/04/2025 16:03

I don't have any work clothes any more (yay!!!) but with slight variations I have about the same as you. On the other hand my friend has a walk in wardrobe that is as big as one of my rooms (in fact it was previously I room before building works), so we are both lightweights.

CarpetKnees · 07/04/2025 16:10

Sofiewoo · 07/04/2025 06:48

Sounds completely normal.

I think the people who don’t own many clothes have quite limited lifestyles.
74 tops is easily made up when you split it into occasions and seasons, 4 basic t shirts, 4 vests, a couple of long sleeves, some casual winter tops, workout tops, work blouses, nice summery tops etc.

But, even though you are trying to defend the OP, you have still managed to only get to about 20 tops (depending how many 'some' is), which is WAY LESS than 1/3 of the amount the OP has. Confused

I'd just like to say I don't have a 'limited lifestyle' and also have in my wardrobe quite a few "uniform" tops for different things I do, which obviously are limited to that activity.
I have plenty of 'smart' clothes (from 'nice lunch' clothes to weddings and Royal Garden party clothes); decorating clothes; warm and layers of warm clothes for when I spend some hours standing outside; work clothes; relaxing clothes; sports tops; and clothes for everything I do in my plenty busy enough life, but
12 pairs of jeans and 22 dresses and 74 tops is just ridiculous.

overmydeadbody · 07/04/2025 16:11

10 casual t shirts
4 blouses
4 jeans
5 trousers
4 hoodies
4 sweatshirts
2 jumpers
2 fleeces
3 thermal long sleeved tops
5 dresses
4 playsuits
1 long cardigan
1 joggers
2 winter running outfits
4 spring running outfits
4 summer running outfits
2 uv reactive clubbercise outfits
2 running jackets
3 jackets
1 leather jacket
1 cord shacket
1 raincoat
1 short coat
1 long winter coat
4 swimsuits
4 bikinis
2 rash vests
1 winter wetsuit
1 summer wetsuit

It's the right amount for me😊 all gets worn when needed.

YouBelongWithMe · 07/04/2025 16:13

That's an insane amount, IMO.

I am pretty militant with not having too much stuff. I have about fifty top hangers (t-shirts, blouses, shirts, jumpers) and 20 bottom hangers (jeans, trousers, skirts). That covers all work and leisure clothes, apart from shorts which I keep in a bag hanging in a cupboard and bring out for the two months I need them.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2025 17:35

I probably have similar to you OP as I love clothes and shopping. I eBay and charity shop to get rid of some of them.

My SIL has far less but a lot of her clothes are in storage at her parents house. They’re moving from a 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house soon though so I can see she might buy more clothes then.

dayslikethese1 · 10/04/2025 12:00

I have less tops than you OP but way more dresses. Looking at this thread I seem to have more than average. I love clothes and creating different outfits and I buy lots of my stuff in charity shops. I use the Whering app so I know for a fact that I wear it all. I reckon if you love it all and have the room it's OK, assuming it's not causing any financial issues. But perhaps your DH wants some the closet space!

Gustavo77 · 10/04/2025 12:23

I have
3 dresses
1 skirt
3 tops
1 coat
1pair boots
2 pairs sandals.

GoogolB · 10/04/2025 12:42

That is a lot, OP. I would try a Stacey Solomon style 50% purge and see if you end up with a better, but smaller, wardrobe that you can enjoy more.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 10/04/2025 12:44

A lot less than that, but I’m not massively interested in clothes.

I wfh and don’t have separate types of clothes.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 10/04/2025 13:06

I don't want to count as I may have double this, although this is in 3 sizes as I am on WLI and have clothes that are too big, clothes that fit now and clothes I want to wear soon.

I have a full 5 door wardrobe and a tall chest of drawers plus under the bed for the too small clothes!

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 10/04/2025 13:08

Just to add, if I get to my target weight and need a new clothes wardrobe I have already decided that I am going to have a simple capsule wardrobe. My current clothes have built up over at least 10 years.

FluffyRabbitGal · 10/04/2025 13:17

Gosh, I feel a bit greedy! I don’t have any trousers, tshirts, shorts or skirts. I must have between 50 and 60 dresses for all weathers/ occasions, 20 odd cardigans and I seem to have loads and loads of multicoloured tights and bras! I do tend to wear lots of them regularly!

ConnieSlow · 10/04/2025 14:20

Who counts their clothing??

notatinydancer · 10/04/2025 18:50

I wouldn’t be able to count. I’ve got 2 triple wardrobes rammed full.
2 chests of drawers.
2 under bed storage boxes.
Last time I counted I had 100 dresses.
It’s too much it’s a bit overwhelming and I’m slowly putting it on Vinted / donating it.
