I have 74 tops/ T-shirts
22 dresses
12 pairs of jeans
7 shorts
3 jackets
2 coats
14 jumpers
8 pyjamas
7 hoodies
2 dressing gowns

This Is 2 chest of drawers and one wardrobe. Is this excessive as Dh says or about right.

OP posts:
GLC789 · 07/04/2025 07:34

Im that woman who has so many clothes but always nothing to wear 🤣🤣.

It's never occurred to me to count my clothing but I can assure it's more than the OP post.

doodleschnoodle · 07/04/2025 07:35

Hmm, without actually counting and my best estimate...

Jumpers/sweatshirts: 10-15
T-shirts/tops: 10-15
Jeans: 6
Other bottoms: 6-8
Pyjamas: 10+, I love pyjamas
Jumpsuits x 3
Dresses x 2
Swimming costumes x 2
Coats/jackets for various seasons x 5 or 6
Shoes: 6 or 7 pairs

I like buying clothes so probably do have too many, but meh.

Lovelysummerdays · 07/04/2025 07:35

I have more coats but then no more than a dozen of any other item. Including work clothes! I used to love clothes now I am a buy it on vinted, wear to rags and replace.

Lentilweaver · 07/04/2025 07:36

Limited lifestyle LOL. I guess I do , if you count going to the theatre, ballet, art galleries, choir, travelling, a limited lifestyle. But none of these demand a lot of clothes now everyone has gone casual.

RampantIvy · 07/04/2025 07:37

Do some of you live in mansions to store all of your clothes? 😁

Sofiewoo · 07/04/2025 07:37

Katypp · 07/04/2025 07:29

I don't have a 'limited lifestyle' LOL but a couple of years ago decided to have a major overhaul and follow this challenge (333).
So I have at the moment (spring)

Two pairs of jeans
Two pairs cargo trousers
One pair leggings
Three jumpers
Two long jumpers
One dress
One coat
Two cardigans
One pair ballet pumps
One pair DMs
One par Converse
Two handbags
Two long sleeved tshirts
Two scarves
Five blouses
Five short sleeve t-shirt.

I keep out of season stuff in a box and rotate it every season, so April, July, October and December Every time I find something I forgot I had!

This isn’t remotely the same as the people claiming they dress for a range of occasions with 2 top. You keep other items than you have listed so it’s sort of a pointless list.

bettydavieseyes · 07/04/2025 07:42

It's excessive to me but my wife is obsessive about the laundry so I can pretty much wear the same clothes everyday if I want, which makes lots of clothes seem pointless! I have one drawer of clothes which includes pyjamas, less than half a rail of hanging up clothes and a few going out clothes under the bed in a storage bag. I have a few pairs of shoes/boots and a few coats and jackets. My wife has about 3 times as many clothes as me but she doesn't wear them all so I'm probably like your DH and tell her to stop buying more!

crossstitchingnana · 07/04/2025 07:43

That’s without work clothes? That’s absolutely loads!

AxolotlEars · 07/04/2025 07:44

It's way more than I have!

Oh OK. I thought this was a thread about how many clothes you had in your wardrobe but obviously not 🤔
Sorry you're not interested.

AlertCat · 07/04/2025 07:45

feels MUCH better about own wardrobe

Can I show this thread to OH??

butterflycr · 07/04/2025 07:47

It's fine to own a lot if it's good quality and will last you many years, but fast fashion is killing the planet.

If you've got 74 tops from Primark/ H&M/ Zara etc (or worse, Temu/ Shein) and keep buying more, then maybe have a look at your life choices.

Sofiewoo · 07/04/2025 07:47

Well you replied to my post claiming “I don’t have a limited lifestyle” but you have several times more clothes than the people I was discussing have.
If you have 3 additional seasonal wardrobes above what you’ve actually listed then your total clothes more closely resembles the OP’s.

Daffodilsarefading · 07/04/2025 07:48

I think it does depend on lifestyle. I’m fascinated that anyone has more than 10 pairs of jeans. Then again I only have jeans that fit me so when I’ve put on weight or lost weight I’ve got rid of the jeans. I can’t wear jeans for work either so that has an effect.
On the other hand I have lots of coats because I walk a lot. I need different coats depending on the weather. For example today I will wear a coat that is warmish, but not my full on warmest coat. It will be one with a hood and water proof just in case.

Serendipetty · 07/04/2025 07:48

Oh god! I'd need a day or more to count all mine. I love clothes.
I have casual ones, going out clothes, tonnes of coats and jackets, lounging about cosy clothes, dress occasion clothes, dresses, suits, no idea how many pairs of shoes, a few designer pairs and cheaper ones, lots of vest tops and shorts, I had about ten pairs of denim cut offs last time I checked. Two double wardrobes full, large drawers full, huge drsser full..

Forgot about sports clothes, gym clothes as well as running clothes, bikinis etc.

And the top of my wardrobe looks like a jumble sale too, clothes I don't wear often get chucked up there.

Pinkmoonshine · 07/04/2025 07:49

I’ve got hardly any but then I like clearing things out! I would say I don’t have enough.

Natsku · 07/04/2025 07:52

At a guess I have 25-30 t-shirts, of which maybe 20 I wear regularly and the rest occasionally.
5 or so long sleeve tops
5 goodies
6 jeans/trousers
Maybe 8 shorts/capris
4 pairs of pyjamas
5 coats (for different weather types)
5 or 6 shirts
3 or 4 suit trousers
Couple of waistcoats
3 or 4 suit jackets

These are the clothes I actually wear. There's tons more I don't wear and should sell but it's such a hassle.

The vast majority of these clothes were bought second hand though, and the collection has built up over the years.

Daffodilsarefading · 07/04/2025 07:53

bettydavieseyes are you my dh? 😆😆
I keep looking at his side of the wardrobe and asking if there is anything we can take to the charity shop.

WheresYourSnickers · 07/04/2025 07:56

If you don't work then all your clothes are just clothes 😆
If you did work would you have less "home" clothes? And just replace them with "work" clothes?
I do work, and I just have clothes!

Also, does your DH pay for your clothes? Is that why he thinks you have too many?
FWIW I think you have way too many tops / jeans and you couldn't possibly get the wear out of them.

Blogswife · 07/04/2025 07:59

Not excessive at all !! I have 2 wardrobes for clothes ( plus another one for handbags) , a very large chest of drawers, an under bed storage box . Plus a further clothes rail and large seasonal storage bag in the attic !
Your DH should be grateful !!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/04/2025 08:02

I don’t think it’s excessive but then I have four wardrobes plus drawers and am thinking of buying another wardrobe. 😱

Katypp · 07/04/2025 08:08

Sofiewoo · 07/04/2025 07:47

No you misunderstand completely.
I don't mean I have 4 x 33 items of clothing.
I probably have a total of about 50 items. I swap things on and out seasonally, not change them entirely!
So fir summer, I will put away my coat and most jumpers for example and will bring out more summer tops. Autumn, I will swap out a couple of summery tops and bring back one or two jumpers etc

BugsyMaroon · 07/04/2025 08:13

It is more than I have, but equally I look awful and also divide my clothes into seasons and try and minimise.

For spring I have;

2 camisoles
3 shirts (white with black stripe; white with green stripe and a rich purple)
1 skirt (mariner stripe- blue on white)
3 pairs jeans (denim colour blue; navy blue and black)
1 dress (blue and white floral print)
3 long sleeved tshirts for layering- white blue and black
1 sage green cargo pants
a couple of poncho type sweaters- dusk pink; black; marle blue and marle grey

BugsyMaroon · 07/04/2025 08:15

Oh and pyjamas- also seasonal. 2 warm ones; 2 satin button down ones and 1 floral summer type nightdress.

BeaAndBen · 07/04/2025 08:22

Holy shit, that seems LOADS! I have about a third of that.

One half of an IKEA double wardrobe, three drawers. And I am not short of things to wear.
