Afghan women being denied refuge by government

It's very disturbing that Afghan women are having their claims turned down. We're all aware of how women can't work or speak in public. Human rights defenders are in grave danger and are being told that they don't face persecution if they go back.

26 women in 2024 had their claims rejected which is absolutely appalling.

This. It breaks my heart hearing all of the talented women who were achieving so much now being locked indoors and governed by men with barely any education, just guns. Even their family members get killed if they support women. We are crying out for midwives, nurses, doctors, nursery workers and teachers. We really should be more open to the women suffering in Afghanistan who want to help others but are imprisoned in their own homes.

With half a million young people out of work for basically no good reason, shouldn’t we be training them?

We can’t just be a small island with a population in the hundreds of millions, with high unemployment and benefit claimant rates, propped up by a few billionaires. But everyone acts like we can be and there is some fantasy economics which will save us ‘if the will was there..’

99% of claims are approved, so why are you making a big deal out of 26 people?

The grant rate for Afghan cases has gone down from 98.5% in the last quarter of 2023 to 36% in the last quarter of 2024.

Yep. If we were a large empty homes haven with our own house sorted out it would be different. But poverty is 50% in some areas. We can’t take in any more when we won’t even look after our own

Yes. We can’t help the world, until we’ve helped those that need it here. 🤷‍♀️

The West is not responsible for how the Taliban treat women. The US however, funded and encouraged extremist Islam in its fight against the USSR.

You'll be interested to know that Al Qaida was funded and trained by the US. Fast forward, Trump negotiated with the Taliban and released thousands of extremists before leaving Afghanistan to its fate after its invasion and occupation.

Western interference in Iran, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and the consequences are a sight to behold.

I think people down play the agency and role of the rulers making these draconian decisions though when the West’s role is highlighted. I don’t think it helps to do that.

Did Labour change asylum rules for Afghanistan? I recall it vaguely

People can't see that Trump is now mates with Putin, supports trad wives and Meta brainwashing incels. He managed to dupe the US into re-electing him and now the world is paying for letting him off the hook for his illegal activities and "grab women by the pussy" comments and behaviour. He's changing the world alright, just not in the way we hoped for.

I have an idea - stop granting asylum or leave to remain to violent male criminals - most recently a convicted Afghani paedophile - and grant it to non violent women instead.

Our immigration courts are not fit for purpose. These mad decisions on supposed human rights grounds just increase racism and hate and make British society even less safe for women.

Will these women leave their sons behind then?
