Pink or no Pink

My son is about to turn 3 and I'm getting him a balance bike he wants a very specific one which is a vintage style bike with a basket and is Pink with white tyres....his dad has outright said no because it's 'a girls bike' he has tried to show him others and has told him he isn't allowed Pink but he still picks the same one every time.....would anybody just buy the Pink or buy a different one and hope he likes it?

Your son has chosen the bike he wants. His dad needs to keep his stereotypical judgmental views to himself.

FuckYouTony · 03/04/2025 21:10

For god sake, just get him the bike he wants. You husband sounds like an arse. "Girls bike" 🙄

Sevenamcoffee · 03/04/2025 21:10

I would get the one he wants

Lammveg · 03/04/2025 21:10

Imagine being a grown man and being worried about a colour.

MsNevermore · 03/04/2025 21:11

Oh the horror!!!
His penis may indeed fall off the second he touches the pink bike 🫣😱😱😱😱

Alllll · 03/04/2025 21:12

Get him the bike.

MsTada · 03/04/2025 21:12

My son is 3 and has a pink balance bike with a basket. It was the one he chose in the shop and he loves it. It's never been an issue - not a single child or adult has ever even commented on it!

Iloveeverycat · 03/04/2025 21:12

What is wrong with men and colours your son can have any colour bike he likes. What's he going to say when he wants a doll.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 03/04/2025 21:12

It's just a colour, get him the bike he wants and tell your husband to stop being ridiculous.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/04/2025 21:13

Your son should be allowed the bike he wants!

If anyone calls it a girls bike , the answer is “no it’s not, it’s my bike!”

HDready · 03/04/2025 21:13

I know it’s not what you’ve asked, but if it’s the Banwood Bobbin I really wouldn’t recommend it! I bought it for my three year old as I loved the look, but it’s really heavy (about 5kg from memory) and she really struggled to use it. She did much better on a lighter weight one, Decathlon have a pink one that you can use as a balance bike and then add pedals once he masters it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/04/2025 21:14

My son actually inherited my daughters bike which didn’t have any of those frills, it was quite plain, and chose to add a basket and doll/ teddy carrier!

WaryCrow · 03/04/2025 21:14

Did you know pink was once the colour for boys and blue for girls? Change your cultural outlook.

LifesUturn · 03/04/2025 21:14

His dad bothered me by saying to me that he had said he wanted blue the day before but when I asked my son he said his dad had told him he wasn't allowed pink he had to choose a different colour

That was my exact response to him and I screenshot the article online to show him and his argument was yeah hundreds of years ago

So he's a manipulative bastard as well then?

He was not happy when my friend asked me if she could get him a doll and pram for Christmas and I said she could and didn't tell him and his face was a picture seeing him walk around the house so happy with his baby

I'd be reconsidering the relationship with someone who has such sexist views.

Of course get him the pink bike he wants.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/04/2025 21:20

Buy your son the pink bike.

Your husband is a walking red flag.

Mickeychampionwhatgoodami · 03/04/2025 21:20

Is the dh worried that ds catches the gay from the pink bike.
Christ it's only a colour

LifesUturn · 03/04/2025 21:21

This is the one he keeps picking out....can't say I'm much of a fan not because it's pink but just doesn't look great but this was the one in the shop catalogue he kept going to and then when I showed him others online he always went for the pink ones with baskets

Pink or no Pink

MyToasterCanLiveAgain · 03/04/2025 21:22

Of course, buy him the pink bike. My ds inherited his pink bike from his sister it's a fantastic isla bike, which was super expensive even second hand so I'm definitely not going to get rid of it just because of the colour. He loves it. When he was 3 he also loved putting his sister's hair clips in his hair. The only reason why I didn't buy him his own hair clips is because he wanted his hair super short.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/04/2025 21:23

Other than the colour and the basket it looks identical to my son's first balance bike. He rode it to death for about 18 months then got his first pedal bike and was away without stabilisers in about 15 minutes.

I hadn't assigned points to each as it was more for getting a general opinion as I am firmly in the if it's the one he wants it's the one he gets side of it but I wasn't sure if others people consider the dads opinion or just get it regardless
