Lighthearted…
What’s been the most silly things you’ve been heavily criticised for on mumsnet?

I remember being told my friendship with my male best friend was inappropriate. He's been my friend for over half my life, if it was an issue with his wife I'm sure I wouldn't have been invited to their wedding (she happily let's us go out on our own because she doesn't want to but that's inappropriate, apparently he should not go out without her).

Coffeeishot · 03/04/2025 10:58

@Simonjt that sounds like a harassment campaign 😳

I called someone a fan girl and was accused of being like the Taliban.

Well fan girl is a really irritating attempt at trying to silence someone so I can see why somebody would pull you up on that but, Taliban? I can't see the connection there?

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 03/04/2025 11:00

After Jimmy Saville died there were several threads about him and the things he was alleged to have done. Posters on them were absolutely ripped apart for daring to speak out against such a wonderful man, and the threads were rapidly deleted.

While admittedly nothing had been made public at that point, the defence of him was off the scale.

I assume those posters felt a bit stupid once the truth came out.

Nameftgigb · 03/04/2025 11:00

I once started a thread asking able bodied people to consider taking the stairs rather than wait in ridiculous lift queues, when there is a wheelchair user waiting who clearly doesn’t have the option to use the stairs. This was at the Liverpool world museum when I was stuck on the fourth floor for 45 mins with a disabled child, as the 2 elevators were so busy they didn’t even make it to my floor. Bearing in mind it’s about 16 steps down to the next floor which boggles my mind when I think why don’t people just spend 10-15 seconds walking down the stairs rather than wait quarter of an hour waiting for the lift before giving up and then taking the stairs. Which they clearly could have done in the first place. I think I got to page 4 of ‘OMG have you never heard of hidden disabilities, all those people couple have had x, y and z’!!! Before I gave up and left the thread. I agree some of them could have hidden disabilities, but not all of the hundreds queuing for both lifts at every floor. In the end someone had to get security for us to help us get out

Lundier · 03/04/2025 11:02

I don't think these are very lighthearted!

CurlewKate · 03/04/2025 11:03

Being pleased that MM made (or caused to be made) that infamous pasta one pan dish on her show because it’s something I’ve been making for ages, people are always amazed when they see it for the first time and it’s sooo quick and easy and good. Turns out I’m a member of the Sussex Squad. Who knew!🤣.

Told by one mumsnetter I was an awful mother for leaving my dd17 overnight when I was 20 miles away and my parents and sister live just around the corner from us.

That’s crazy, you can be married at 17 - in fact I left for uni at 17!

Nameftgigb · 03/04/2025 11:05

Admitting on mn during covid that I took a pack of sausage rolls out on a walk with my children, and we sat in an empty field and ate them.
How dare you put other people at risk! You don’t care if people die do you!? It’s not like you even went out, got hungry and bought some, you brought them with you so you PLANNED to stop and eat the sausage rolls! It was PREMEDITATED! Are your family so fat and greedy that you can’t even go for a walk without having to stop and stuff your gobs??!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm sure fan girl can be a really irritating attempt to shut someone up but that's not what I was trying to do.

They said that being called a girl meant that they were being treated like a child and infantalising women is exactly what the Taliban do and I was just like the Taliban.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 03/04/2025 11:06

That there was no way I had a plug socket in my bathroom, no way, I was either making up bullshit for attention or I needed to contact the police about my landlord.

Did not occur for a second that I was one of the dozens of people that do not live in the UK.

MN is nuts. Covid MN was fucking insane, the likes of which will hopefully never be seen again 😂

Have you seen the recent thread.about McDonald's chips and ice cream ?

That thread is fucking bananas...largely made bananas by 2 utterly ridiculous posters

QueefQueen80s · 03/04/2025 11:15

My username.. the poster didn’t have a valid argument so attacked the username instead 😂

And when I mentioned walking the dog at lunchtime in June and got PILED on by the MN equivalent of the RSPCA of my neglectful dog rearing because it was 29 degrees where they were and that is FAR too hot to walk a dog in. I don't deserve the dog, I should give her to someone who will care for her, people like me disgust them, I should be ashamed, that poor dog, about 429 angry emojis.

I don't live in the uk, but by the time I pointed that out everyones heads had exploded so no one could read apparently.

poetryandwine · 03/04/2025 11:17

On the basis of my user name and comments I have been accused of not understanding the real world. The comments have mostly been to support women experiencing discrimination

I am presumed to call women ‘hun’, have some kind of clerical job, fail to grasp statistics and to have poor analytical skills. Generally to be woo.

In fact I am an academic with a maths intensive STEM PhD. Oddly, no one describing me as above ever replies when I point this out.

Pascha · 03/04/2025 11:19

Got vilified for prioritising kids sports day over the funeral of a distant family member on DH's side that they had no link to or memory of. They had no need to be at the service.

I went to sports day, DH did his duty, took an hour off work and went to the service. The children sported. Everyone was fine with it. The world went on turning.

Screamingabdabz · 03/04/2025 08:46

Come on now. That one is fair enough... Freezing sandwiches? You do you love but that is bonkers.

Freezing sandwiches with ham and/or cheese is perfectly fine and in hot weather actually keeps the filling cooler. It’s a great time saving tip and even saves on waste food as you are less likely to end up with stale ends of loaves. Just don’t add any salad filling.

JuvenileBigfoot · 03/04/2025 11:26

On an innocuous thread about my Chinese Takeaway order, that DP and I are disgusting gluttons and order too much.

I was then defended by a bunch of people saying it's ok as we'd have "leftovers for days"

Um. No. We eat it all. Because we're normal.

sprigatito · 03/04/2025 11:29

Devilsmommy · 03/04/2025 08:33

Apparently I'm a raging psychopath because I hoover up spiders. I'm arachnophobic so I'm not about to stop 🤷

That is pretty awful, to be fair

Spareincoming · 03/04/2025 11:32

Because we usually don’t have two hot meals a day.

I am the worst.

Dustmylemonlies · 03/04/2025 11:35

For saying developmentally normal children shouldn't be starting school in nappies.

I stand by it.

TokyoKyoto · 03/04/2025 11:37

Not breastfeeding! Ha!

Pinkywoo · 03/04/2025 11:41

For taking my husband's surname when we got married. Apparently I am a disgrace to womankind and a terrible example to my daughters, who will be thoroughly ashamed of me (I have no daughters, just two sons who don't give a shit).

HumanBurrito · 03/04/2025 11:42

Btinging my kids up bilingual (due to having a foreign husband). Apparently wanting them to be able to communicate with both sets of grandparents is showy offy 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
