Lighthearted…
What’s been the most silly things you’ve been heavily criticised for on mumsnet?

OP posts:

Posting on a thread about Harry and Megan when they were first married! Stated that neither was a nice person and that they treated staff awfully ( i have relatives who work for the RF). Got told i was lying, racist and jealous 🙄.

OlympicProcrastinator · 20/07/2025 09:33

Got told I didn’t want to take responsibility for my children because I enjoy going on holiday where I use restaurants instead of cooking and hotel maids clean the rooms instead of me. Apparently that made me a neglectful parent and she felt sorry for the staff.

Instrad of having a holiday, I was told I should sit indoors for a week with the whole family using my ‘inner resources’ for entertainment.

What? Seriously, people actually go and stay in hotels and clean up instead of the maids? I've never heard of this ! A holiday is a holiday. I won't lift a finger when I'm away. Obviously if something happens and there's a stain needing clearing up or if things are a trip hazard etc, I am happy to deal with those until maids can sort things out, (I'm not a complete slut) but seriously, it would never cross my mind to do their job for them.

Being in a non-perfect marriage because the pros massively outweigh the cons.
Having SEN kids.
Referring to my kids (and me) as SEN.
Going for a diagnosis and then not going for diagnosis.
Using a radar key because I need to have both kids in a cubicle with me.
Driving. And previously criticised for not driving - what if my kids had a medical emergency and the hospital at the end of the road was closed?!
Not liking dogs.
Loathing my abusive in laws.
”Allowing” my kids to eat a very restricted diet.

The list goes on….

VikingLady · 20/07/2025 15:06

Oh yes - a recent one on the “are you a snooper” thread! In the absence of any character references for now DH (our only mutual friend was a diagnosed sociopath) and all I really knew about him was that most of his family were dead or no contact and he was living with his parents in his 30s, I said I snooped thoroughly before I got serious about him. And that is recommend my kids do the same. It takes the place of asking his social circle about him.

I did tell him I did it, and if he’d had issues with it I’d have accepted being dumped and assumed I’d had a lucky escape tbh

Years ago I got told off for buying frozen pre chopped onions. Apparently that meant I expected other people to do my menial work like there was someone in the back of the supermarket cutting onions and weeping all day, as opposed to them just being put through a big machine and bagged.

Cleaning my skirting boards too often.

Yes…all the ridiculous ‘Am I supposed to clean my skirting boards? Is this a thing?’ It seems to imply they are far too
superior to bother with such menial chores!

CleanQueen123 · 20/07/2025 16:10

I, and the rest of my profession, were called "weak, snivelling rats" a week or so ago. Heaven forbid we work in our chosen career. We should quit immediately and do something more worthy I assume.

Lucelady · 16/08/2025 08:54

A very funny thread.

My taken to task were:

Asking a 26 old DC for rent when he earns more than his father. Apparently I shouldn't have had children if I couldn't afford them to live with me for free.

I should have moved out of my rental so an abusive landlord could sell in covid. I should have also done all his repairs as he'd granted me a tenancy.

I shouldnt have covered a pregnant colleagues job and tidied up her mistakes as I was secretly trying to push her out. I got pushed out!

Of course...any criticism of Megan has to be racism doesn't it!

notnorman · 16/08/2025 09:08

I was ‘fetishising’ adopted children because I asked the question is it appropriate for parents of adopted dc (adopted cos of sa) to be heavily into sex clubs and only fans

in 2017 been raped and saying I was ready to commit suicide, I actually did but was found in time by the police. Told to get a grip and stop been so dramatic

Not on mumsnet but I got told I was selfish for trying to end my life aged 14 by my best friend (note, she's a shit friend). Im sorry you went through that. No one can judge you if they haven't been so desperately low they try to end it all

Frozen onions and frozen soffrito are the best! I can't chop anything well or uniformly (restricted range of motion from wrist fractures) but even if I could they save time and reduce waste. I also keep frozen garlic, chili and ginger in the freezer

SoniccBoom · 17/08/2025 11:22

I had a username ages ago that was 'NGNDA'
I was told that it was obviously a racist acronym. On a thread about something completely random.

it was an acronym for one a P!nk song Never Gonna Not Dance Again..

Toddlerteaplease · 17/08/2025 12:44

Being sad that Lakeland had stopped selling sticky mitts. The best thing ever for removing cat hair. Apparently people in the Ukraine have bigger problems. 🤔

tubsters · 17/08/2025 16:13

Talking about my 12 year old who cried at school. He was a wuss apparently and he might end up in prison as I have mollycoddled him

CurlewKate · 18/08/2025 05:52

Being a feminist.

piscofrisco · 19/08/2025 23:04

Being an active step parent to my DSS’s. Apparently it’s overstepping to do their school run, makes me a Slave to DH (who only married me to get a ‘skivvy’ so he ‘wouldn’t have to parent his own kids), and it makes my own (nearly adult) children feel neglected because occasionally they had to get the bus (which went from outside our door to their school in 10 mins as opposed to the hour long school run for then 8 and 9 year old DSS’s).
Also just being a second wife. Stands to reason any man who has been prior married must have been an abuser or else why would his first marriage have ended? I see that one all the time sadly.

I once got told off for a piece of legislation existing.

A poster asked about it and as I worked with it every day, I named the act and how it applied to her issue.

Another poster was furious about this, said the legislation was wrong, she refused to believe it and how stupid both I and the legislation were.

Thing is, I didn't write it.

I regularly have to deliver training on really unpopular areas of the law. I now open with "I don't actually write the law" because the vitriol I'd get for what I was briefing from people who clearly thought I'd woken up that morning and decided to make their lives difficult by passing this law. Hasn't stopped it completely but definitely reduced it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/09/2025 18:26

Years ago I dared to post that my DD was upset by two large loose dogs on a beach . DD had a fear of dogs at the time and this was the height of summer on a busy beach that was off season for dogs .

I was torn a new one for my "dog hating bile" by a poster ( who was eventually banned but not because the posts to me )

5128gap · 28/09/2025 18:52

I was told I was neglectful and my child would be malnourished and grow up to have poor outcomes after I described how they'd only eaten chicken nuggets, bread and fruit for the best part of a year on a thread about ARFID. I shouldn't have given the nuggets in the first place apparantly.
I'd have actually been upset had the year I was talking about not been 1995, and the child I was talking about now 34, 6' 2" and healthy as an ox.

That made me laugh out loud. How dare you make the machines at the frozen onion factory do all of your work!

LooLoo274 · 28/09/2025 19:14

For saying that my 5 year old child kept losing his lunchbox/coat/belongings at school and I was considering approaching his teacher to talk about it and ask if he could have some help, after it was pouring rain one day and he didn't have his coat to walk home in.

Cue pile on from mumsnet saying no wonder teachers are leaving work, that's not the school's job etc...

Child is now 9 and diagnosed with various SEN, so he absolutely did need help.
