There was Kewcumber who adopted from abroad as a single lady, there was a mum who always talked about her son Wilf, and there was a very direct, blunt and often right woman who I think wrote with no punctuation, who seemed to be on every thread and gave me lots of harsh truths! Going back a good decade now…

Anyone know what happened to them? Anyone else you wonder about?

You were here loads 😊. It took me longer than I'm willing to admit to understand your name🤣🤣. Can't believe he's 19 already we have the years gone.

I’m another one who in the haze of newborn sleep
deprivation took about 6 months to notice what this username actually was Grin

Kewcumber is well! Her ds is now about 19. She and I are Facebook friends, having met in person a couple of times when our dc were toddlers.

Oh I loved expatinscotkand and the death of her lovely daughter of leukaemia was utterly heartbreaking. She sounded like such a wonderful unusual spirited little girl.

Expat is doing well.

notacooldad · 05/04/2025 10:38

Does anyone remember the poster who referred to her DH/DP as manshape.
There was a reason for it and I canr remember. Was she called Demented? Or something like that?

angelinawasrobbed · 05/04/2025 13:02

Deemented?

She was a friend of mine IRL and is sadly missed. Her DDs the 3 Twitter Princesses are doing well I'm happy to say.

I hope her daughters know just how much her threads meant to so many. ❤️

Wow, I wonder how old their sons are now

@Kallabra DS is 19 now and having wandered around trying to find his way a bit after Covid is now doing an A level course hoping to do politics at university. Thank you so much for asking I truly feel flattered that anyone remembered me that I didn’t already know personally. It was privilege to be involved in other’s journeys particularly on the adoption boards even if only peripherally. I do still lurk occasionally and do have life long friends made through Mumsnet.

Does anyone remember the Chutney Wanker? Also known as 'the chutney twunt'.

That was of the best mumsnet stories ever. On the relationships board. She first found out she'd been left for another woman when she got home and he'd upped and fucked off - taken his collection of chutneys out the fridge and disappeared.

The story unfolded slowly over a period of weeks. I was GRIPPED.

Edited

TrickyTreeLou! I also followed her posts. I think about her and her son from time to time. The chutney twunt- chunt!

I'm still friends with Kewcumber - she's doing well and that little baby is now a handsome young man. Some of us from ye older days are still here but under new names.

@Ketzele now I’m wondering who the hell you are!

@LindorDoubleChoc - why on earth was Maryz banned? Her posts on the challenges of teens werE so helpful.

as for @kewcumber - I met her in real life a few times. An amazing lady. Her son must be about 21 or 22. After being single for a while, she was v loved up the last time I read something she had posted. She had done an amazing job in raising her son. There were some amazing posters on the adoption board - Lillka, 2old2beamum, lots of wonderful people.

Hi @Hels20 how the very devil are you? I am still loved up with the not so new man who survived the challenges of me nearly losing my leg 3-4 years ago in a freak accident and the subsequent treatment and gradual return to walking if a bit wonkily. He’s been a rock and ds who is now 19 coped with one more of his life’s dramas pretty well. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Enko · 02/04/2025 20:57

That is amazing to think. But not sure why it surprises me my own are in their 20s. I recall Kewcumber having a webpage with the story. Of their first meeting.

@Enko well remembered! I did indeed blog. DS and I went back 10 years later and I blogged about that too but wasn’t really posting on MN at the time. I have posted other things over the years but the early blog is still the best bit of it I think! Www.surelyitshouldntbethatcomplicated.com

I loved your blog, @Kewcumber. I can’t believe that adorable little armful in the baby house is a man!

Smallsalt · 06/04/2025 01:53

Somebody used to give amazing thoughtful advice on the relationships page. Then there was some kind of upset and she just stopped. Can't think of the name though.

Hels20 · 06/04/2025 02:40

Oh goodness @Kewcumber - that sounds awful. I am well. Boys now nearly 14 and 10. Still in SW London. Eldest managed to get through his primary school wobbles and is in the midst of choosing GCSEs at a local mainstream state school; youngest - lots of SEN issues which makes life v interesting and makes me realise how there is so little money for SEN in schools. But health wise all good!! Time goes by so fast!! x

I loved reading your blog back then. I have never adopted but have family members and friends that have so often read the adoption board to ensure I knew how to speak with them and not inadvertently bring pain.

I also recall a couple that adopted a little boy while living abroad and they just walked into the orphanage and was told to pick one. Her dh got playing with this little boy and she explains she thought "are you our son. Yes I think you are" both blogs were moving.

Good to see you Kewcumber I was Lonnie back then.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2025 09:36

I remember reading your blog years ago @Kewcumber and adopting

I’ve just read about your dog/knee experience. Omfg. Sounded awful and very painful

glad your man was a keeper

Kallabra · 02/04/2025 20:50

That’s it!

Anyfucker didn't post without punctuation though, as I remember? The garbled posts full of typos and no punctuation was Cod I think.

ScottishMummy was always very blunt and succinct and she was around long before Bluntness. Unless they turned out to be the same person.

StupidBoy · 06/04/2025 12:26

ShowOfHands · 02/04/2025 22:31

DH loves Riven's DH's books.

I like reading all the old names on here. It's nice to reminisce.

I've been here forever. Since back when cod was edgarcat.

I miss some of the old staff: Helen and Geri and the Techs in the shed.

Oh are they successful then? I remember her talking about how he had started to write them. Game of Thrones type genre, from memory? I was wondering if he ever got a publisher.

I remember her! and her awful exH. He cleared out the house of his belongings + the "special chutney" I think?

After it was all over, she posted in the 30 Days section under another name. I wonder how she is? Her little boy would be quite big now, I think.

I wish people would come back & update us!

Lang Cleg was magnificent on women’s rights. I hope she’s still here under a new name.

I fear LangCleg was banned - for harassing MNHQ apparently (a trumped up charge at the height of the TRA invasions of FWR). I still miss her.

This thread reminds me how much time I spend waste here ... I recognise so many of the names. I think MN really was quite small until apps & smartphones became so widespread.

ExitPursuedByABare · 06/04/2025 19:51

Who coined ‘Trust nae fucker’. I often use it. Always presumed it was Scottishmummy.
