Getting ahead of the many hypercritical posts.

I've had a fab morning. Still in my PJs at 1000. Homemade cards and crafts from my kids (6yo and 20 months). Flowers. And my husband made breakfast (poached egg, English muffin, spinach and the piece de resistance - homemade hollandaise sauce!)

Genuinely thoughtful, not horrendously expensive. Shows love and care from everyone!

My oldest made a jewellery dish with dried flowers at school. And a chocolate bar with a 'super woman' wrapper. I did give him the cash for the PTA for these (because he is 6). I'll also share the chocolate (Galaxy underneath) when I open it.

What lovely things have you had/ done today?

Happy Mother's Day, that sounds so lovely 😍

We went out to a farm shop yesterday for brunch, and saw my mam, mother in law and Grandma.
This morning I have had handmade and shop cards from the children, tulips, a little plant from DD from nursery, a heart mammy Keyring from DS. Then a beautiful card, some Lego, and the John Lewis Mother's Day Beauty Box from DH. I'm still in bed watching Greys Anatomy and they brought me Crumpets, fresh OJ and a Lindt Bunny with some daffodils for breakfast.

This afternoon I'm preparing a lovely buffet and afternoon tea for us to enjoy with a movie.

That’s what Mother’s Day is with small kids I think and it’s the best. Excited children and hand made gifts, no stress morning and a lovely breakfast.

I’ve had from 6 yr old daffodils picked from the garden in a new vase my dh bought. Older children even got up and had breakfast with us. One made tea, the other made eggs. Perfect.

That sounds like bliss! Especially catching up on some Grey's in bed :)

I love a hand-picked bunch of daffodils.

And 100% - a chill time, with family and excited small people.

What a thoughtful husband. He is behind all of this. And it takes thoughtful adults to show children how to show appreciation.

I'm sure you do alot for the family and deserve it. 💐

Hapeaglowb · 30/03/2025 10:21

Lovely day here, home made card and presents and a (non homemade!) gorgeous van cleef and arpels bracelet!

EsmeSusanOgg · 30/03/2025 10:22

Love hearing about everyone's good mornings!

And thank you for the nice DH comments. He is absolutely great - I am very lucky 😌

Like all Sundays, I’m on the side of a rugby pitch! With an hour less sleep!

Mother's day when they were little and before they got involved in grass roots sport was lovely!

have a great day!

On the side of a rugby pitch is my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning ❤️ hopefully you're at a decent rugby club that does bacon sarnies 😁

What a lovely morning! I woke up early had a lovely brew in bed whilst the kids were sleeping. Youngest got up and made me some breakfast. I got ready and the eldest came in and made me toast and a brew. Lots of lovely pressies. Chocs, mugs and teddies plus a lovely homemade card and gift from my youngest. Feeling very loved. Takeaway for tea later for the three of us and it’s lovely and sunny. Have a lovely day everyone

Chunkychips23 · 30/03/2025 10:30

My husband set his alarm to get up before me for our toddler, who really didn’t appreciate daddy being the one to get him. I ended up getting up anyway as I could hear them ‘arguing’ 😂 Appreciated the gesture anyway as DH is NOT a morning person at all. He’s also fed DC and made me breakfast.

Probably not doing much else today, as I’m heavily pregnant and DS number 2 feels like he’s about to fall out of my cervix, so likely a takeaway and DH will take DC to the park to burn off some of his toddler rage.

TheNightingalesStarling · 30/03/2025 10:31

DDs cooked breakfast and brought me coffee (and DH tea).
13yo has painted a picture.
12yo made a card.
I got a couple of presents that I actually bought myself (laptop case and birdfeeder) but they wrapped them. (For full context here... DH has been away with work, I saw them and it was easier to buy them than return with DDs at a later time).
I also got a surprise silly present (100 miniature cows... dont ask!)

Its been lovely.

waltzingparrot · 30/03/2025 10:32

My minister has just sent out this lovely message ...

Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely people who take on the role of being a mother to others.

Made my day so far, whilst waiting for older children to wake up.

Dweetfidilove · 30/03/2025 10:32

Sounds a wonderful morning.

My daughter is 16 and I still look forward to a handmade card. Far better than anything Hallmark could produce 😊.

Enjoy the rest of your day 🌞.

EsmeSusanOgg · 30/03/2025 10:41

I genuinely love a handmade card / gift. A uni friend made me an Alice in Wonderland themed illustrated short book for my 21st. I'm close to 41 and it is still one of the best gifts I've had!

My oldest is really into making cards and notes. Which are truly sweet. I need to find a better way of displaying them.

Sounds lovely 🥰 nice to read this thread this morning as well!

I am a single mum, I've had a lovely morning so far - my son and daughter brought me coffee in bed. Daughter is still in primary school and they do a scheme where parents can send money in advance (£3 per gift) and children can choose gifts for their mums / grandmas / step mums / whoever. She chose me a little travel bag with refillable bottles because we are going on holiday (for the first time in ages!) this year, so that was very thoughtful. Son has his own challenges so does not think in this way, but gave me a lovely cuddle.
I'm about to get up and wash my hair, get dressed then we are taking my own mum out for lunch.
I normally do shift work and can't remember the last year I actually got to be at home on mothers day, so this has been really nice 🥰

MrsMurphyIWish · 30/03/2025 10:43

Happy Mother’s Day @EsmeSusanOgg and all the others mums! Nice to read a thread celebrating the little things!

DS is autistic and realised yesterday he left his card he made at school is his drawer - it’ll probably be there in July 😂 I did have a hug 🥰

DD (13) is still asleep 😂 She has made me a card though as I can see her craft stuff on her bedroom floor.

DH has gone out for his long run (training for an ultra). He left flowers, chocolate and wine on the table. I should do some marking but think I’ll eat the chocolate! The wine can be opened after the marking.

Having curry for dinner 😋

Have a great day all!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 30/03/2025 11:27

Yes to nice weather!
yes to bacon sandwiches!
yes to lack of rain so not got 3 completely caked in mud boys to hose down!

happy days 😊

edwinbear · 30/03/2025 11:49

DD is on the school ski trip. Before she left, she helped DH to organise a lovely basket of my favourite CBD drinks, snacks, skin care/bath stuff and a new book. DH added some new ‘middles’ for my cars hub caps because mine are dreadfully scratched 🤣. I’ve reminded her to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to the teacher mums on the school ski trip, who are with them, rather than their own kids on Mother’s Day.

DS sat with me whilst I opened my present, I don’t think he had much input, he has GCSE’s starting in 6 weeks so I’d much rather he focused on that. He’s now upstairs revising without kicking up a fuss.

DH has gone out to do the weekly shop. I’ve put some washing on as it’s perfect drying weather. We might do a bit of gardening this afternoon as it’s such fantastic weather and it needs a post winter tidy up. We’re having Chinese takeaway for dinner, DH did ask if I wanted to go out for lunch, but I can’t really be bothered! It’s a very chilled, relaxed day in our house - perfect!

MrsMurphyIWish · 30/03/2025 11:53

@edwinbear That’s so thoughtful to think of the teacher mums!

BeaAndBen · 30/03/2025 11:56

I had exactly the same breakfast from my marvellous DH - isn’t it a treat? Lovely to start the day so beautifully.

StScholastica · 30/03/2025 12:00

We had a lovely family meal yesterday and the grown up kids came from all over to be there. I love the opportunity to cook for them all!
I love seeing everyone around the table chatting away and genuinely getting along together.

When they were little, we hoped that they would grow up to be just like they are now.

Eminybob · 30/03/2025 12:09

I had a cup of tea in bed. DH offered to make breakfast but I declined as we are going out for lunch and I wanted to save myself.
Homemade and shop bought cards from the DC, and some lovely white roses and a box of boozy cocktails themed chocolates.

Currently at MIL’s where instead of spending time with her grandchildren she is moaning to DH and getting him to do the countless jobs around her house that she saves up for such visits. We are not taking her for lunch thank god!

Richandstrange · 30/03/2025 12:13

I'm utterly unsentimental about Mother's Day (and all occasions actually) but was very touched to receive a beautiful card and 2 small but thoughtful gifts from 16yo DD this morning. I've had a lovely, chilled out morning and now DH is making lunch so we can eat before the Villa match kicks off at 1.30, am very much hoping my day continues to be enjoyable and we win! DD is out at a gig tonight so we're on late taxi duty but will have a nice dinner just the two of us (steak, DH is cooking) later on and maybe a nap after the match, pretty blissful day for me all in Grin
