Getting ahead of the many hypercritical posts.

I've had a fab morning. Still in my PJs at 1000. Homemade cards and crafts from my kids (6yo and 20 months). Flowers. And my husband made breakfast (poached egg, English muffin, spinach and the piece de resistance - homemade hollandaise sauce!)

Genuinely thoughtful, not horrendously expensive. Shows love and care from everyone!

My oldest made a jewellery dish with dried flowers at school. And a chocolate bar with a 'super woman' wrapper. I did give him the cash for the PTA for these (because he is 6). I'll also share the chocolate (Galaxy underneath) when I open it.

What lovely things have you had/ done today?

I had a lovely breakfast with some Buck’s Fizz and got some beautiful flowers and earrings. DD6 remembered the card I had pointed out weeks ago so that was lovely.
DD and I had a pamper morning and are now getting ready for lunch and then off to the dentist!

PaganOfTheYuleTimes · 30/03/2025 12:22

Lovely to hear these. I've had a lie in followed mimosas and smoked salmon bagels in bed. As predicted DD got up and cleaned downstairs while looking after the dog and I've 3 lovely handmade cards with some flowers picked from the garden on a vase. Presents later as we're getting ready to go for a nice walk in the sunshine! DH will cook dinner when we get back.

HolyMoly24 · 30/03/2025 12:22

I got woken up by my partner holding our 6 mo th old and my 5 year old daughter holding a plate of hot cross buns blasting out Pink Pony Club.

I also got a bracelet with a moon charm and a Lego photo of me and my girls. as well as the usual crafted card from school. Definitely wouldn’t usually get jewellery but partner wanted to make it a bit special as it’s my first as a mam of two.

all in all just lovely and wholesome.

blablablah · 30/03/2025 12:24

I had beautiful pictures in a lovely big card with bees on it (they know I love bees!) a home made card, and some sunflower seeds planted in a little toilet roll inner. This is particularly lovely because they know I love plants and growing things and it’s something we can look after together and plant in the garden. I also got a nutri- bullet because I’ve been after one for months!

I’ll skim over the youngests diarrhoea and bun fights over who’s going to deliver my special drink of honey, milk and whole blueberries 😬

Eggsley · 30/03/2025 12:29

I had a bit of a lie in, had a shower and got ready with no interruptions, came downstairs to cards from each DS and a big cuddle from DS2. They got me a spa day for 2 so I am feeling very spoilt. DS1 got up and gave me a big hug as well. We've been for a wander around a local garden centre which was lovely in the sunshine. Going over to my parents for lunch shortly, then home to chill.
It's been lovely as no-one has shouted or argued yet!
Happy Mother's Day to you all xx

Squarestones · 30/03/2025 12:38

Eldest made me scotch pancakes for breakfast cos I usually make them thin pancakes on a weekend but prefer scotch ones myself.

Younger ones had made cards and got me a mug and kitchen accessory they thought I would like as I'd been moaning about the one I have being broken.

My mum's on her way for lunch, she is bringing pudding and we are doing the main - so we're treating each other

Elphamouche · 30/03/2025 12:45

DH has gone to work but me and the baby had a lie in. Came downstairs to a gift bag of pressies (they’ll be little tokens) and a t shirt for DD that says I love mummy, some flowers and breakfast treats.

DH will be home later this afternoon before doing the second shift tonight, but me and DD are snuggled on the sofa.

DominoRules · 30/03/2025 12:54

I had lovely cards and a candle from my 15 and 16 year old DSs. DH made us all a nice breakfast then they have offered to come on a dog walk but I said no as they are avid Villa suppporters and the fact they were even willing to miss watching the match is present in itself. I’m going with my sister instead 😂 The 16 year old is cooking roast chicken later and apparently the 15 year old will clear up (I suspect DH will help heavily!!)

Savyonblanket · 30/03/2025 14:01

My adult son who is an atheist insisted on taking me (a Christian who is a regular church attender ) to church as it’s Mothering Sunday.

100% not his thing but he knows how much I love to go on a Sunday and so he insisted on taking me and sitting with me.

An utterly selfless act of love and kindness that came completely from him and meant the world to me. Felt very special.

MadamePeriwinkle · 30/03/2025 14:07

This is lovely.

It's my first Mothers Day without DD as she's got a big essay due so is staying an extra week at uni. She sent flowers, chocs and a card yesterday.

So this morning I had cuddles with the cats, made myself a nice breakfast and took it back to bed with a new book, video call with DD and now round my mums, with a hand drawn card I made for yesterday and some bits and bobs for a homemade afternoon tea.

Pancakeflipper · 30/03/2025 14:10

I struggle abit with Mother's Day tbh but think I've smashed it this year.

Sent DP off to visit his mother for the weekend (not local). MIL will love having her boy for the weekend- she's got lots of little DIY tasks lined up - ha ha!

My tribe have given me cards and gifts (books, voucher for a day out). Had a long walk this morning with the elder DC and dog. They were then "released" to go and do their hobby. Youngest DS and I have are going on a short walk to see DC doing their hobby soon and there's an ice-cream place on the way..

Current sat in the garden with the dog.

This is bliss.

Screamingabdabz · 30/03/2025 14:22

Aw what a lovely thread! My dd said whilst out getting my flowers yesterday she eavesdropped on three examples of teenage boys, two with their dads having lovely chilled-out interactions about what to buy mum. One young lad about 12/13 was out with his mate and had a handful of change working out if he had enough to buy his mum a card. He wished the card shop lady a lovely day as he left the shop with his purchase.

I think after all the chat about the Netflix programme this week, it warmed the cockles of her heart to see some nice young lads, and their dads, being thoughtful about Mother’s Day, and happy to do it.

Newname2025123 · 30/03/2025 14:48

It’s so nice to read about all the nice days. I’ve had a lovely day too.
It’s my first Mother’s Day with two children.

My toddler and DH made me a cake and a card. DH also took him shopping and he chose me a mug and a potted plant (the mug is Paw Patrol but DS thinks that’s the best thing in the world and he’s 2 so it was very thoughtful in his own way 😂).

We’ve been for a nice nature walk this morning and then out for a roast lunch together (the baby very obligingly napped for most of this). There haven’t been any tantrums or minor disasters so I’m happy.

My mum and MIL (and our dads) are all coming round later for tea. DH is doing an afternoon tea for everyone which will be lovely.

WhatTheFuckIsThisNow · 30/03/2025 14:52

I've had a fabulous day, despite being full of lurgy! I spent the morning cuddled up on the sofa with DD (27) eating jam roly-poly and custard for breakfast while watching a 2000s ITV drama. She gave me loads of really thoughtful gifts pertaining to my interests plus a fuck load of chocolate, and a home-made card featuring several of our in-jokes. We played a game of Top Trumps and have had a proper laugh. She's taking me to our favourite pizza place for lunch in the Easter holidays (she's a teacher) so we have that to look forward to, too.

She still lives at home and I'm so glad she does. She's absolutely ace, we're so close and I'd be delighted if she lived at home forever tbh!

WhatTheFuckIsThisNow · 30/03/2025 14:52

Happy mother's day to everyone, btw! 💐

Aww How thoughtful.
i had a surprise Moonpig delivery of Toneys chocoloney and a card from DS2 as I won’t see him for a week or two
cards and a phone call from DS1 and DS3
Have a lovely day

gladiator12 · 30/03/2025 16:36

Oh my goodness what a lovely thread! There are 12 (twelve??) other threads on here moaning about Mother's Day for one reason or another. It's as if we are not allowed to celebrate if we have a good day! My son gave me a beautiful card and is preparing a roast dinner at present. My granddaughter gave me a celebratory mug chosen and bought by her which will be a daily reminder that she appreciates me. Have a great day everyone.

UncharteredWaters · 30/03/2025 16:39

We have an unwell 6 week old, no sleep at all for either of us. Mother’s Day present of getting up to make me a cup of tea on the couch, in the 10 mins the baby slept was amazing - and the true meaning of love!

telestrations · 30/03/2025 16:49

This is my first Mother's Day and so far I've had a lovely day with DH & DS 7mths

DH planned a day out to a monkey sanctuary as I love animals. On the way we stopped at a small car boot and bought a lovely plate with spring flowers "from" DS and had a nice coffee with a view, and afterwards we had schnitzel which we both love. And there is a daffodil in the garden waiting for DS to pick for me, though we may do that tommorow.

whatisforteamum · 30/03/2025 19:08

Lovely thread.
Had the day off which is rare as I'm a chef so mother's day is normally crazy .
Woke up at 6 now 7 and had coffee with my cat not expecting anything as now adult dcs have their own lives far away.
First suprise was DD leaving embroidery bits as she knows I used to do alot as a teen.
While I was cleaning I noticed a box and it was Moonpig flowers and card from ds.
Took my DMS designer shoes back to m and s as returning time had expired yet they honoured the 80 pound s.
Very happy elderly DM.
Best mothers day ever.

Ilovelurchers · 30/03/2025 19:18

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

My daughter and I went to the cinema (Snow White - it was very good!) and then she took me to lunch, which was lovely. She gave me a lovely card and gifts - chocolates and perfume.

I am no longer married to her dad but I appreciate the fact that he must have funded all of this. (She is only 12).

I am over at my own mom's tonight and have given her gifts from my daughter and I, which she seemed pleased with.

Grateful to have my amazing daughter and amazing mom in my lives, and to have excellent relationships with both.

Really feel for those for whom Mother's Day has been less positive, whatever the reasons.

I know there are a lot of threads on here where women are criticised for having expectations of the day, but personally I don't think it's unreasonable at all to have one day a year where the women in families are celebrated, whether they are biological mothers, or women who play other maternal roles (such as aunties, God-mothers, step-moms etc). All are deserving of appreciation at least one day a year!

MiniPumpkin · 30/03/2025 19:23

Dh got up with kids,
they were so excited so woke me up and told me what gifts I had 🤣
pink gin, chocolate, flowers, home made cards.
dh done a lovely roast with Prosecco

Makirocks23 · 30/03/2025 19:28

Breakfast in bed handcrafted by my children, cold hot cross bun and bowl of peanuts :) handmade cards from school and a little plant pot.
We were going out for a nice walk but it was really windy and the children were deep into a game and playing nicely for once :)
suns out so glass of wine in the garden! Perfect

AliasGrape · 30/03/2025 19:33

What a nice thread, we’ve had a lovely day here.

DD - who is 4 — slept in till almost 7 (now almost 8 technically) which is fairly unheard of for her. She then ran into our bedroom chatting about random nonsense then stopped mid sentence, before saying ‘oh I’ve just remembered something happy Mother’s Day!’ and gave me a huge cuddle. She’s been so excited since DH took her yesterday to choose some bits and bobs for me.

I then had a cup of tea in bed, and was given the lovely card DD made at school. Had a half hour lie in then came downstairs and had breakfast made for me, a bunch of flowers which DD informed me were my favourite (they’re her favourite colour!), a bar of chocolate which she informed me we’d all be sharing and a hair clip she’d picked for me.

Went to see my sister for a few hours, sat in the garden in the sun and played with the kids, came home and my in laws came round for a takeaway so nobody had to cook. DH and FIL cleared up. Just had some nice family news as well about another baby on the way on my side so that’s lovely too,

DH is going to do bedtime now whilst I have half an hour to read in peace.
