I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

I wouldn't eat it in front of them and I never said that I would. That's what after bedtime is for.

It isn't selfish to want your gift for yourself, it's your gift.

What's the point in mothers day if it's just another day where it's all about the children and mothers come last, as usual?

So why do you think you should come first? Because you’ve had a child that you wanted?

Christ, I deserve special treatment because I chose to have a child.

Bitofanchange · 30/03/2025 20:33

Yes it is, you sound awful!

Enjoy your chocolate, much more important than your child’s feelings of wanting to be part of mummy’s day.

You think children can only be part of mothers day if they eat the gifts?

Mothers day is pretty much the only day of the year where mums can come first for a bit.

It's one day. I don't think that's too much to ask for one day not to be about the children.

Nah, have children…. It’s about them always.

Can I ask whether you have ever met a six year old child?

Of course I have.

Bellsandthistle · 30/03/2025 20:49

YANBU. Some of the replies on here are appalling. It’s also a lesson for the child that mother’s are actual people and should not be expected to put themselves last always. Important whether the child is a girl or boy.

At least I won't need to add unpleasantness to the list simply because someone disagrees with me.

Mums are generally rarely allowed things for themselves, surely if any day they can have something for themselves, that day is today?

Are you serious 🙄 The child asked for a bloody mini egg not a million quid! Are you a mean mummy too? Lol

It doesn't matter what it is, you don't ask for someone else's gift. It isn't mean to teach a child that.

Byebyechicken · 30/03/2025 21:07

Apologies, have not RTFT and this may have already been said, but perhaps the mothers who are so easily disappointed on Mothers Day are the same mothers who feel completely taken for granted and lacking in any support every other day of the year, and they hoped that just for today, they were treated with a basic level of appreciation and kindness?

If this is the case, then rather than making a stand towards a child on Mothers Day, it would be more beneficial to wait until Mothers Day has passed and then evaluate what's happening to make you feel so undervalued.

The mini eggs are the catalyst to what's probably a long back story of feeling neglected.
I'd like to hear that back story before I judge.

redshoesredlaces · 30/03/2025 21:10

I dint think this is about mini eggs is it OP. You are feeling unappreciated and like you have lost all autonomy.

I get it. You want to have some semblance of being just you. You who can have your own space and me time and can make choices based on what you want. Just occasionally.

Just out of interest at what point do people think it’s ok to NOT share their gifts with their kids? So if you had been bought some nice Charlotte tilbury makeup for example and your 14 year old fancied it for herself would you let them have it?

Yes, I’d let her use it if she wanted to try it out. Although my teen has way nicer make up than I do anyway.

What you teach your kids not to share? See I’m different to you, I do teach mine to share, it doesn’t mean they get the majority of the bag of even half but c’mon a couple of little mini eggs 😂

PalmTreeAngel · 30/03/2025 21:52

Wow. I think people are being unnecessarily harsh - but then, I’ve come to expect it of most people on MN these days.

It’s a gift. It’s Mother’s Day. You do so much. I think you’re entitled to a little gift. It’s up to you if you’d like to share them, but it shouldn’t be expected. What kind of message is that teaching children, that you have to share your gift with them.

Relax, OP - you deserve your mini eggs.

Sharing doesn't mean that you are automatically entitled to someone else's things, especially if it is a gift. That isn't how sharing works.

Sharing is great but sometimes it's also nice to have something to yourself. That's ok too.

Why do you argue in this obtuse way?
It's not about anyone being entitled to your things. It's about an adult choosing to keep mini eggs to themselves. Fucking mini eggs. Yes, they have the right to. Nobody disputes that. If they want to, they have something wired wrongly.

ForestFox44 · 30/03/2025 22:22

Wow imagine not sharing a little bag of chocolate with a 6 year old... poor kid 😅 honestly this really is tragic. You sound like a spoilt brat

HRHPRINCESSOFFLUFF · 30/03/2025 22:24

ChicMiss · 30/03/2025 10:00

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Grow up
