To think baths are awful?

I’ve lived in my house for four years and there is a very deep and long L shaped bath which is the envy of my bath loving friends. I’ve never been keen on baths and never used it. But tonight I thought, for a change, I’d run myself one and take my book.

It was absolutely shit. Took bloody ages to run, then I got in and couldn’t hold by book right. The water was a nice temperature but it made my face too hot. It was boring. I lasted twenty minutes and then drained the water. Complete waste.

I find them mildly disgusting. Right up close to the grouting. It’s horrible. AIBU?

Absolutely love a bath. It relaxes my muscles and my mind. We’re in the process of a house move, and any house without a bath was instantly off the table. Can’t wait to use my new one!

I agree with you 😂

Me too

I love having a bath, lots of scented bubbles and water just a touch too hot. If you bathe every day (and don't have a dirty/smelly lifestyle) then you're sinking back into clean water so no worries there. I don't read or drink wine, I just relax and rethink my day, bliss.

I love them , due to my worsening Parkinson’s, not strong enough to get out

lazyarse123 · 26/03/2025 22:49

Why are people struggling to read in the bath you can buy a rack thing, I forget it's name but it fits across the bath for your book and glass of whatever?
I no longer have baths because I struggle to get out due to arthritis so we now have a walk in shower. I do sometimes miss it.

BigGra · 26/03/2025 22:50

I want to like baths, We have a deep, freestanding roll top, by a west facing clear window looking out over fields with the most amazing sunsets and yet I rarely enjoy my time in the bath.
I get restless and fiidgety and can’t relax.
Can manage 10 minutes before I want to get out.
I do enjoy a wee sit down in the shower when waiting to wash out a hair treatment, I love the feeling of hot water raining down on me,

NeedWineNow · 26/03/2025 22:54

I have to say I love a bath. A soak with a glass of wine, book and the Alexa playing some relaxing music easing aching muscles is one of my joys. That said we had our bathroom refitted a couple of years ago and DH argued for replacing the bath with a walk in shower but I held out for a bath with shower over which is what we have. I am starting to think that he was right. Cleaning the bath is a right faff and leaning over it does make my back ache plus our bath is quite narrow due to the small space so it's not always the most comfortable experience.

🧡🛁

Fourleggedfanatic · 26/03/2025 22:55

Completely agree! Boring and a waste of water.

What’s an L-shaped bath? I can’t imagine what they are. Is it literally like the letter L? Two bits that are at right angles to each other? Are they for 2 people?

I thought they meant like this.

To think baths are awful?
Neweverything25 · 26/03/2025 22:56

I don’t get how people can read or in the bath. I prefer to listen to something relaxing or interesting and also at night with just candle light.

thishouseisashittip · 26/03/2025 22:58

Love baths. Can't stand showers, been in current house 10 years and only had 2 showers. Would put me off buying a house with no bath.

AlpacaMittens · 26/03/2025 21:27

They're pointless and fucking boring. I'm planning to rip the bath out and get myself a walk in shower ❤️❤️❤️

A walk-in shower?

How else would one get into a shower?

RampantIvy · 26/03/2025 22:59

I don’t get how people can read or in the bath.

I don't get how people can't, unless you are long sighted and need reading glasses. I am short sighted and can easily read without glasses.

I'm not a fan of candlelight or drinking in the bath eaither. Just a nice soak with a good book and I'm happy.

Thecomfortador · 26/03/2025 23:01

Music on, nice just hot but not too hot water, bubbles, lovely 20 mins or so. No reading just enjoying the water. I think life would be sad if we didn't have the option of a bath. When fantasising on Rightmove I mentally discount any house that only has a shower, however lovely the rest of it is.

Fruitytutti223 · 26/03/2025 23:01

Omg 😂

I have recently been getting more into baths! Magnesium salts for aches and peace from young children. It’s getting more enjoyable. But could never figure out how to feel fully clean. Always had to shower after.

Why did I not think of this shower before!!!

Most people have shower head over the bath as the shower in the main bathroom 😂

Thecomfortador · 26/03/2025 23:03

I don't really understand why people don't feel clean after bath. I feel cleaner than when I've been in the shower.

stolenlullabies · 26/03/2025 23:04

Monvelo
Totally agree, not had one for maybe a decade! They make me feel dead.

This brilliantly sums it up 😆 I’m with you. Sitting around in water that’s getting cold and grubby. And it’s so boring. Haven’t even had a bath in my current house.

Same here.

There are some ridiculousy fastidious germ phobic posters on here, or they work in a mine.

Getting into a deep, hot bath is how I hope dying feels like, it's bliss.

Getting out of a deep, hot bath must be how being born feels like. Your body must suddenly feel heavy and cold.

I'm with you OP, I hate baths. They are boring and uncomfortable. I also find them a bit disgusting. And don't get me started on hot tubs... like sitting in a human stew of bodily fluids and skin cells 🤢

Time40 · 26/03/2025 23:07

It sounds as though that bath is the wrong size and shape for you, OP. If you tried one that was right for you, you might like it better. Bathtubs need to be not too long, not too short and not too deep for the bather ... and not put in too close to the wall at the tapless end, so there is enough space to lean back (a very common fault with the fitting of bathtubs).

I'm just off with my book for my daily bath. I may be gone for some time. (Great tip for older bath-readers: if you dip your reading glasses in the hot water for a few seconds and then dry them, they don't steam up.)

An L shaped bath.

What is that little extra but for?
