Question about removal men - will they take my food shopping?

Changednameadviceneededxx · 26/03/2025 11:55

Just that really

I should be moving shortly, fingers crossed, and have agreed £500 for removal men to take our stuff

It costs extra because they need to remove my fridge doors

I am going to do a HUGE food shop of heavy items, such as bottles and tins and jars, bags of rice and pasta, just all of the heavy shopping, as its a 2nd floor flat, no lift

Aibu to think that they would take that stuff? It would be in heavy duty shopping bags

Tia x

OP, you've got the worst replies.
It's totally fine. As long as it's not too much extra. If it's more just email them and they can tell you how much extra it will be although I doubt it would be more than £10/£20

Thank you! I wasn't expecting it to turn out like this 😄😄

I've had to ditch my fave emoji, I'm terrified of weevils and I'm now picturing myself climbing up stairs as an old lady

Thank you, I've messaged them and will send them a video of my stuff- hopefully it won't be too much extra x

I've been told no before 😄

But will see how it goes on my first monthly shop

You’ve lived in a flat up some stairs and they have refused to deliver it to your door?

Or did you live in a house, they delivered it to your door but refused to take it to your kitchen or the second floor?

Then your parents should have lodged a complaint, because it doesn’t matter how many stairs you live up, they are paid to deliver to your door.

Edited

They weren't the type tbh, they concluded that I was the problem

But that's another story 😄

I'll book a smaller delivery if all goes well and I move in

You do realise you can have food delivered to a 2nd floor flat? I do it every month! They don't just dump it outside the building.

They bring it upstairs???? Really? Even grumpy Asda drivers?

I second the weevil issue. Ive had them, they look horrid/are a nuisance. I didnt know you could ear them!

Are you sure a luton van seems big enough? That's a lot of furniture. We had a lorry size and with 3 beds, 2 sofas, 4 seater table, 4 chairs, 1 small armchair, 1 desk and then just our "stuff" the movers ended up doing 2 trips. They will just charge you more tho rather than leave it.

I also think it sounds more hassle than it's worth to save 50p on some tins

Theyll be taking down one ikea bed and I should have another one in a box

Theyll take down the ikea wardrobe and set it up at the new place as well

So ive got

Small dining table
2 seater sofa
2 x armchairs
Coffee table
2 x dining chairs

Washing machine
American fridge freezer
Cooker

2 x tvs
2 beds that will be disassembled
One wardrobe that will be disassembled

Then just a bunch of boxes and bags

Forget about the shopping, OP. I would be very concerned whether a Luton would be big enough for what you've listed, without the extra food. £500 seems quite cheap and I would be wary. Are you moving far? Are they planning more than one trip? A Luton van is bigger than a Transit but it's not huge.

😬😬 from east to north london

have you ever thought about turning vegetarian? A massive salad can last you a long time!

I haven’t used Asda just Tesco Sainsbury’s and Ocado and no one has ever refused to bring it up! Most offer a ‘to kitchen’ service and will be used to dealing with disabled or elderly customers so it’s normal and not a service the shop can blanket refuse!

Uncooked rice should be stored in a cool, dark, dry place.

Brown rice is only good for 6 months. White up to 2 years - but watch out for weevils, mice and other pests.
