As per title really,

AIBU to think that the UK will avoid USA for holidays moving forwards?

  1. You are being unreasonable suggesting this
  2. You are not being unreasonable suggesting this. 😆

You wouldn’t think like that if you live where we do in Canada near to the border

Some people just want to enjoy their holiday.

Living under a massive rock here and wondering why nobody is booking holidays to America?

Lots of people don't like trump.
That's it really

In real life the people I know saying they will be boycotting the US had never been and had no plans to go anyway.

It’s much more than disliking Trump - it’s the principle of threatening to make Canada into the 51st state, ‘buying’ Greenland, randomly applying tariffs, publicly referring to turning Gaza into a riviera, crashing the economy, flipping sides between Russia and Ukraine, and today lying about not being aware of a significant leak of emails.

Better places for holidays than the US.

It’s my favourite place to holiday and I’ve travelled a lot. Each to their own though.

And I like the word tool.

And hence why is redundant, which I dislike.

Edited

Nice try, but yet another epic fail.

hence /hĕns/

adverb
For this reason; therefore.
"handmade and hence expensive."
From this source.
"They grew up in the Sudan; hence their interest in Nubian art."
From this time; from now.
"A year hence it will be forgotten."

Maybe YOU would insert "why" for "hence", but no person with common sense would do so. But hey! You do you!

SunsetCocktails · 25/03/2025 14:57

US Border Force have always been harsh. I think some people are used to places like Spain and Portugal where they generally wave you through with a roll of the eyes as if to say “More Brits”. I’ve travelled many many times to Canada and have had just as much of a grilling about why I’m visiting as in the US.

When used together, they are essentially repeating each other. It's like saying therefore why.

In your last example, it's a completely different usage, unrelated the the initial example.

The epic fail is yours.

If it makes Florida quieter (we don't do Disney anyway) then I'll be happy to visit.

Floridian here. It's not quieter. We still have tons of vehicles with Canadian tags clogging the roads like every winter. However, a lot of Americans who would've traveled overseas for vacation are deciding to stay in the US.

Morningsleepin · 25/03/2025 15:07

Arcticrival · 25/03/2025 12:26

Makes me laugh. Don't go to the US then when Trump in in charge. I'm sure they don't care if you visit or not, all this vitriol towards him is fine but you seem to forget that over half the country voted for him to get into power. What we think doesn't really matter.

And visa talk -the woman arrested on the canadian border had been working despite not having a work visa. course she was arrested. If you have the correct ESTA/visa you have nothing to worry about

I dont understand why she was arrested when they could have just not let her in

TwoSteppingInTexas · 25/03/2025 15:11

I’m sure some people will choose not to go, but personally I love the US so won’t stop travelling there, We go every year as we have lots of family and friends there. Our best holidays have been in the US.

From the discussions here in Canada, I think you’ll start to see changes in visitor numbers in the future.

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 25/03/2025 15:18

We have family in Northern California, we have invited them here for the foreseeable.

@LifeExperience That's interesting, were they afraid of not being able to renter the country, despite being American?

I went abroad two weeks ago and Passport Control seemed no different to last year when I last traveled. They took our photos, checked our passports and on we went. It took about a minute.

Obviously I wasn’t staring intently at the Visitor’s line, but people appeared to be moving through. I think it’s unlikely that most tourists would have a problem tbh.

Re. The Canadian actress. Something’s odd about that situation as she’d previously had a visa revoked (that’s what I’ve read anyway, could be untrue) so she was very unwise to try and renter the country. I don’t understand why she was arrested but surely most countries that had previously revoked your visa wouldn’t let you in? I don’t know what would happen in the UK, for example, if someone with a revoked visa attempted to enter. Would they also be arrested or just stuck on a plane right away?

I think she was already in the USA and had been working there. She was trying to cross into Canada when it became apparent that she didn't have the correct visa to get into Canada and was working illegally in the US

Those are directly from the dictionary. So, again, nice try of squeezing out of it. Stop being a tool. I even used your favorite word just for you. LOL!

I do know that it isn't grammatically correct, but I dislike it when a tool comes on here to act like the grammar police.

You epic fail is just because you are you, not what you've written.

In real life the people I know saying they will be boycotting the US had never been and had no plans to go anyway.

I've been a lot. Have close friends there and am going on a trip in April because it's non refundable.

However that will be it.

We were planning Seattle for a big anniversary next year but despite many past holidays in the US given the state of it, its off our list. And I'm pretty sure my life is real.

Hopefully many other people with decent ethics will do the same.

Oh that the poster who said people aren't going because they don't like Donald is either naive or as thick as mince. The death of a democracy sparked by a man who is close ally of Putin is hardly a mere dislike of a leader.

And just for shits and giggles our firm has decided to not quote on any US work. I'm sure others feel the same.

Annoyeddd · 25/03/2025 15:39

I don't fancy going to US but would love to visit canada

GrazeConcern · 25/03/2025 15:40

We’ve decided not to visit and do the kitchen instead. Not into Disney and everything else can be found elsewhere.

Yellowhammer09 · 25/03/2025 15:47

Darn! I was hoping Universal, Disney, Tampa and other areas would start giving discounts to Americans to travel there. Disney and Universal at Christmas would be so beautiful!
OOohhhh!!! There are some WDW discounts appearing.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 25/03/2025 15:54

Never been. It was already way down my list and is now even lower.
