She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

On the list was

Butter chicken
Sweet Naan x3
Rice
Vindaloo and rice
Coke 1Ltr
Delivery fee £5

Not the point of the thread but that’s all you got for £52!

I live in London and that wouldn’t cost that much. Only one curry and three naans!

Bitofanchange · 23/03/2025 18:19

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 18:17

And I've ALWAYS been asked if I want rice or naan so I guess we eat in different types of places (I've never heard of banquet nights) which might contribute to the difference in opinions.

I HAVE NEVER (obs upper case means it’s true) been asked rice or nann!

Do you live in teeny tiny land by any chance?

I'm definitely not virtuous but at least I know when I'm eating too much.

The irony of considering 'stuffing yourself' a treat then telling other people they have food issues is strange to me.

That's great you have a healthy BMI.

You come across very bitter.
I’m sorry you can’t enjoy stuffing yourself once in a while, maybe if you remove the stick from up your arse you’d have more room?

Well we don't have banquet nights so maybe I do and I didn't realise...

cardboardvillage · 23/03/2025 18:23

Can you explain to me what is so good about it? Presumably you feel physically sick and uncomfortable afterwards so I am guessing it's some sort of mental high.

Buffs · 23/03/2025 18:25

If that’s how she pays her bills then yes she can go to the bank. Let us know if she ever does!

I don’t, I’ve never felt physically sick from eating, have you?

have you made yourself sick from overeating?

Have you felt uncomfortable with your eating habits?

Why do you think that is? What do you think that means? Disordered thinking about food?

Pippyls67 · 23/03/2025 18:28

DenholmElliot11 · 22/03/2025 20:54

And the answer to anyone who ever says "I thought it was your treat" is "what made you think that?"

This. Brilliant!

Crikeyalmighty · 23/03/2025 18:28

Good gracious- what is it with people who feel the need to comment on other people’s portions when it seems ‘a lot’ - OPs post wasn’t asking ’is this a bit of a greedy blow out’ - it was’is she a CF not paying !!

I was referring to the wording 'stuffing yourself' the other poster used and described it as enjoying herself.

However as I have you - I just looked up banquet nights Indian restaurant UK and have no doubt you wouldn't feel stuffed or sick or whatever on the meal described by the OP.

Well we don't have banquet nights so maybe I do and I didn't realise...

I think you must…..

Whereabouts are you based, just one sure I don’t visit!

Next you’ll be saying you don’t have poppadoms and the lovely relishes!

😋

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 17:28

Well...

They do here.

My DH is Indian and it's my absolute favourite type of food so we have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants.

They ask “Rice? Naan?” Not “Rice or naan?”, as if it’s an either or scenario.

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 18:31

Poppadums are your favourite part of the meal are they? Probably your whole week! You are certainly living life anyway.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/03/2025 18:31

I've also never been to an Indian restaurant and asked if I want rice or naan bread. Frankly I'm wondering who these weirdos are who don't have both.

You looked up banquet nights?

You’ve got nothing better to do on a Sunday evening, than try to “shame” me about food!

Looking at your other posts, well I’m glad I’m me!

Wonderful. That's the most important thing.

Spaghetti with a tyre

No wonder she wanted a takeaway.

laraitopbanana · 23/03/2025 18:42

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/03/2025 21:47

Oh dear, she'll have to go into the branch then won't she, like it's the 20th century.

By the way, if she can save her card details to the Just Eat app, she can do online banking.

Her app wasn’t working…first tip on her intention…

TheTavern · 23/03/2025 18:44

If you had invited her for dinner then maybe you should pay for her food but not her drink.

If she is mean with money I would ask her for 65% of the total food bill minus your drink and check that she has your correct bank details.

If she has fallen on hard times I’d treat her this once and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Bring mean with money is a horrible trait and seeps into every aspect of life and if someone gets away with not having to pay their fair share they will keep doing it.

I could mention at least one!

SpringCleanY · 23/03/2025 18:45

Did she assume you were paying cos you were the one who invited her round for dinner? CF though!

DenholmElliot11 · 22/03/2025 20:53

OK, exactly how much money are we talking about here.

65% of the total figure, less the snacks?

Around 30£ or so I assume.
